I'm assuming it's because Novak refused to lift when he was at Marquette, which I'm sure would not sit well with Todd.

If it was my guess I think Steve was bout to sit down and asked Buzz if it was okay that he sit... maybe Buzz was about to give a post game speech and he just wanted to make sure it was okay with coach that he sit in during it seeing as how Buzz looked at him like "kidding me man?  of course u can"

If you watch the 20 minute MSG video on Novak (on YouTube), you will see him and Todd Smith are friends and Novak still works out with him at Marquette.
