How many coaches stay at their first head-coaching gigs forever?

Yup.  Then you look at Buzz's career, he's always been a nomad so that will add to the speculation.  Milwaukee is the longest stop he has ever had.

1994–1998 Texas–Arlington (asst.)
1998–1999 Texas A&M–Kingsville (asst.)

Wooden coached at Indiana State before UCLA.
Knight at Army before Indiana.
Even they weren't "forever" guys.
Illinois isn't a destination job. Just ask Bill Self.
UCLA could be, but there are plenty of reasons that's not an especially attractive job right now.

In that case, Kansas also isn't a destination job. Just ask Roy Williams.

Every college coach, and I mean EVERY college coach, has a dream job for which they'd leave their current position.

Nor is Kentucky. Just ask Rick Pitino. Nor is Kansas. Just ask ol' Roy. But maybe Gonzaga is.

The point I've been trying to make is that writers and fans make assumptions about the "value" of certain jobs that (based on who wants to actually take those jobs) are way off base.

The post you're quoting said "first head coaching gigs". You put up a list of assistant positions and UNO, which is not nearly the job that Marquette is. More importantly, none of us knows what really went down at UNO.

Pakuni said first head coaching job. There is much more movement among assistant coaches.

Actually wasn't even thinking along those lines.  It was more that Buzz has always bounced around, it's been his career path.  Nothing wrong with that, many people do it and certainly many assistants.  Though there are also some assistants that lock in for 10 years, too.

That was really all I was saying.  If you read some of the commentary out there some have come to the conclusion that he likes moving around, new change of scenery, etc.  Hope that isn't the case, as it will again pin that label on MU, fairly or unfairly.  People can say coaches have left voluntarily from Kansas, Kentucky, etc...but it's very rare and it's usually for the NBA or a special exception (Roy Williams back to his alma mater).

Unless they get there. I don't think there's a job in the country that could pry away Roy Williams, Coach K, Izzo, or JTIII. Is it possible that Marquette is that job for Buzz? Who knows, but maybe. If his family (more specifically his wife) is still happy and he believes he can compete at the highest level here, might Marquette end up being that job for Buzz? I don't think any of his past jobs (especially since passing on A&M) are more desirable for him. The longer guys like K, Self, Roy, Barnes, and Cal stay at their current jobs the better chance he stays here.

If a coach happens to stay in one job for a long time - Coach K at Duke, Izzo at MSU - it's because that's what the coach chooses, not because of the school or "the job."

What's Roy Williams' dream job he'd leave UNC for?

Roy Williams coached Kansas and went to UNC, that's why you would ask him if Kansas is a destination job.

the statement made was "Every college coach, and I mean EVERY college coach, has a dream job for which they'd leave their current position"

So that means Roy has his eye on at least one other job.

Roy to Minnesota!

A few more years like this one, and UNC may make that decision for him.

I also believe this happens due to Buzz's age coupled with the sometimes-negative connotation of Milwaukee/Wisconsin by.....Chicagoans. I love Brewtown, but others enjoy ripping on what they don't know.

I believe Wisconsin would also have to deal with the rumor mill, but don't since Bo is 125 years old.
