We all know who Buzz is trying to recruit for 2014, but can Buzz get in on other Top 20 kids now with all the press he has gotten?  If not, then maybe he does leave MU for greener
pastures.  I know it would be hard to leave this year as they are really stacked next year with talent, or do you leave the next coach all that talent?  MU has done everything it
possibly can do to help his program, good and bad, so it comes down to getting talent.  Getting Johnson and Dawson from other parts of the country has to help Buzz, what do you
think?

4th and State

Having a deep run this year could really help.  If Buzz can get to the Final Four this year he may be able to convice Stone or Looney that they are the missing the piece to a national title.

MU82

Stone OR Looney? They might as well matriculate to MU as a National Title package!

Well I didn't want to get too ahead of myself, but yes that sounds much better.

I'm not sure we need to be getting 5 star Talent to Keep Buzz here.  I think we just need to be able to win as much as we lose the recruiting battles with Guys in the 25-75 Range.

I'm not sure Buzz really wants 1 and Done type of Player's.  He wants guys that work hard both in the class room and on the court and Value the Life lessons they learn, value and support their teamamtes etc.  Are one and done guys going to enjoy Boot Camp?  You can build a really strong program (Top 10) with guys rated at 50 that stay 3-4 years.

True. You can build a really strong program with guys rated at 50 that stay 3-4 years, but you can win multiple National Championships with those guys, plus a couple one-and-done types.

This.

He offered Crowder a scholarship after seeing him play 10 minutes and foul out. Why? He liked the way he cheered his teammates from the sideline. Buzz is an eccentric, character guy.

Every coach wants the best players he can get. Ask Boeheim if he wanted a 1-and-done Carmelo. Ask Matta if he wanted 1-and-dones Oden and Conley. Ask Calipari if he wanted 1-and-done, um, everyone.

It's hard to have a whole team full of 1-and-dones -- although, as I said, Calipari wouldn't have traded the national title just to make the tournament this season -- but believe me, Buzz and any coach would love to have a player or two with 1-and-done talent. He talks nice about all those life lessons but he's a basketball coach. He's paid to win. He lives to win.

So are you saying he doesn't want guys like Stone or Looney?  Because I guarentee that is not the case.

You're right. I don't think he wants a Coach Cal roster full of one-and-done's, but a coachable top recruit who will work hard. Especially of the home grown variety. IMO, he'd probably like to recruit a more select group. Make 15 offers and get 4 guys. Not have to target 30-40 players.

Wally. Im disappointed in you. That was an awful post.

If we don't get there this year then next year is the year to get to a F4 to convince Looney/Stone they should play at MU. with the amazing team we will have next year.

Speaking of recruiting...any of you twitter junkies see what our 2013 guys have been saying about MU lately?

Wilson has a few MU tweets in the past 24 hours, including one of him practicing in the Al. McKay also tweeting and retweeting MU stuff, and so is JaJuan. Not sure if Deonte or Dawson are on twitter.

The question won't be can he.  The question will be will he want to.  Buzz has said over and over that he likes guys who haven't been handed everything etc.  Buzz is stubborn enough that he'll stick to that strategy no matter what.  Maybe we'll see a few more come in, but I doubt you're gonna be looking at us getting blue bloodlike classes.

Actually, Calapari is one of the biggest proponents of keeping kids for more than one year...

How much of recruiting is the coach and how much is the school?  If Calipari came to coach MU (I'll let that sink in a bit...) he would probably get pretty much the same level of recruit he is getting at Kentucky.  Same with Coach K and Roy Williams.  If Buzz went to those schools (or UCLA), he might get marginally better recruits than he does at MU.  Keep in mind he has the #10 class for next year and UNC is currently #11.  I just don't see Buzz leaving for that reason.

I'm sure that story is over-blown in typically Buzz story telling. I'm sure all his assistants and probably himself saw plenty of tape before meeting him. The final interview is usually more about fit than skill. So yeah, Buzz knew for sure it was a fit but I don't believe for a second Buzz would recruit a guy without knowing his on the court skill.

I would compare pre and post-Calipari Memphis recruits to address that question.  I don't think you can say Derrick Rose goes to Memphis without Calipari.

It's ashame we only have room for 13 scholarship players.  Marquette is one of the greatest stages to play for really good basketball players.  It's a short jump to the NBA from Marquette.
