I could be mistaken, but wasn't that Davidson players practicing free throws in the background?  Maybe why they are one of the top free throw shooting teams in the country.

Waste of time.

Each coach is different.  Some think it is a waste of time, others don't.  Wooden had his teams practice them every practice.  Other great coaches didn't.  Personal preference.

McKillop really thinks Davidson has a unique advantage over MU because they played 3 big conference games in a row this season? That's a new one.

He was talking about the conference tournament. They had 3 must win games. Lose one of those and miss the tournament. MU never faced that pressure because even with a Big East Tournament loss they were comfortably in.

Have to agree with you.

While it's definitely a plus to be battle-tested under pressure, I don't think that's unique to Davidson.  MU's pressure-filled situations included blowing a late lead at Pitt and still winning in OT... losing on a heart-breaking buzzer beater to Butler and then walloping the other two squads... blowing yet another late lead trying to win their first Big East crown and still getting the W even while trailing late in OT... Also, continuing the home-win streak vs ND while in title hunt had a bit of pressure to it.  You get my drift.

I think this will come down to MU winning by a couple possessions.

Look at all of the pressure on these guys as they practice free throws. Just like an NCAA tournament game.

Confident and comfortable.     Just think, he could have been at Marquette!

Every game Marquette plays in pressure filled.  If they don't have a good regular season, or go on a cold streak for a few games, they aren't going to the tournament, because it's so incredibly difficult to win the Big East tournament.

Came across to me as composed and very confident. He worries me. Davidson will be ready.

I still think the pressure of winning three straight games to go to the tournament, after blowing teams out during the regular season, is greater.  Sure, said teams are not very good, but to me that ups the expectations to win those games a little more, and those teams have nothing to lose going against the best team in the conference.

A lot of coaches practice free throws.  Its not necessarily the pressure, but rather practicing at the end of practice so the players are tired.

I was very confident about this game until that interview. This 'effin guy is a cocky SOB,and im fine with that. Let him buy into the "Davidson will upset MU" BS.

Those must have been some of the most pressure packed games this season. Georgia Southern, Appalachian State and College of Charleston. Three in three nights, one right after another. Relentless.

We'll be lucky to be within 20 at halftime playing against a team this experienced and battle tested. I'm not sure we belong in the same gym.

Were there restrictions on practice time back then?

Certainly if Buzz had the kids for an unlimited amount of time, I think they would practice free throws.

But, given they have limited hours each week, he leaves it to the players to get their free throws in after practice.

Buzz plays it off saying "We don't practice free throws", but c'mon, we know better.

If I go for golf lessons, the golf pro doesn't stand there and watch me practice 4ft putts for an hour. That's a waste of time and money. I can do those on my own.

FT practice is worthless if your team can't get to the line in a real game.

Definitely good experience for Davidson, though the RPIs of those three teams were 266,262 and 145.  Not sure what to make of that.

What did he say about Mann?  Is he playing tomorrow?  Well not necessarily a game-changer, I think it affects our strategy a lot--gives them an extra body and 5 more fouls inside.

He said Mann is day to day.  That's really about it.  He didn't rule it out and didn't say yes but said his shooting stroke looks real good right now.

It will be the equivalent of James playing against Mizzou.    It is highly unlikely that he will be able to play lots of consecutive minutes, especially if we push the pace.
