and he was favoring Clemson?  Does your friend have any more "inside" info for us?

ZiggysFryBoy

no, but he is claiming that fitz is leaving.   ::)

it was spartan316 or whatever his tag is.  He also said something along the lines of...he heard him say "a snowball's chance in Hell" or something when referring to MU.

to bad we did not hear about a verbal during his visit

agreed......UNC gets most of the kids who take an official visit to Chapel Hill.  I still like MU's chances here - - but

spartan3186

Ok I need to set a couple things straight.

1) I NEVER said that Fitz was leaving. I said I heard him say he was applying for jobs and might be leaving. This in no way insinuates I have inside information that he is leaving. I heard him say it and I passed it on because I thought other posters on this board may be interested to hear it. In the future if you don't want to hear first hand info so be it I will not pass anything I hear along

2) My friend RUNS windycityhshoops.com and has had multiple conversations with shumpert. At one point my comments were true I hbut if you had read all my posts you would have seen updates

I did say we had no chance in hell at first with this post

QuoteAlright I just got off the phone with my friend who wrote the article regarding Shumpert and he says we "have no chance in hell" at signing him. He has talked to many of the parties involved (Shumpert and Bruce Weber in particular) and Shumpert seems to be leaning east coast. Apparently he is Weber's #1 recruiting target for the entire class of '08 and my friend does not think Illinois has a shot either. Anyways just passing info on from someone with first hand knowledge

This was a VERY early post. I later had another post where I changed this statement. Peoples minds do change

I said

Quote"A good friend of mine who writes for windycityhshoops.com claims that Shumpert has unoffically narrowed his choices down to five schools

Marquette, Kansas, Clemson, North Carolina and Georgia Tech

He also says that after talking to Shumpert his parents are strongly pushing him towards staying close to him... this bodes well for Marquette but his strong desire to play for an ACC school may win-out in the end"

This post turns out to be almost entirely correct. In his "official" list he had Illinois and Bradley rather than Kansas.

Again, I do not claim to have insider information. I just pass on things that I hear from various people and people who have talked to recruits just so people can hear another opinion. If you would like me to stop posting these things I will. I simply pass on information.

downtown85

spartan, don't be put off by the criticism.  keep the info coming.  you seem to be talking to more people "in the know" than 99% of the posters on this board, including me.  I always have an opinion but rarely have any real information regarding mu basketball first hand, even if it comes from a guy talking over a beer.  i find that there is often a lot of truth in the heresay on this board, even though it usually isn't 100% true. for example, i think that i heard it here or on cracked sidewalks that coach rab was leaving the program about 3 days before the official announcment that he was taking a leave of absence or whatever he is doing.  That is what these boards are about. somebody with a bit of info that seems credible should be posting it.

muarmy81

exactly, keep the information coming because those of us not in the midwest rarely hear anything in regards to MU basketball.  If it turns out to be untrue, oh well, who expects a blog site or public message board to be the truth?  Besides, talking basketball is why most of us come here and if your info spurs discussion about this topic rather than something political I'm all for it!

Harrison

I agree the info is great and many times I have offered info that I get from my people inside the program.  many times it ends up not coming to fruition and then people discount anything you have to offer.  But I will say that most things i know about long before others do.

The whole fitz thing tho is incredibly confusing. And I will add this....it is not unheard of for post graduates to be applying for jobs.  So say that means he is leaving is rather naive.

In fact I spoke with dan about a month ago and all he could talk about was how incredibly excited the team was for the upcoming season.  he said the team was totally pumped and had very hhigh expectations.  he was alao really excited about Mo Acker and felt there would be no let off When DJ was not running the offense and that MO is as quick as  DJ.

snakesinthesnoilet

we'll all mu fans here so let's not burn any bridges when it comes to "insider" tips...as far as i'm concerned, i enjoy reading anything new whether it be credible or complete b.s.  All has entertainment value to me....keep it coming!!

muwarrior87

since he has graduated, i'm sure he's talking about looking for a job.  Whether he is going to grad school, which i thought he was, here or somewhere else, he is gonna want to find a job since i'm sure he realizes he is not going to make a career out of this and will eventually have to move on to something else so why not interview for positions now?

muhoosier260

so let's assume fitzgerald isn't going to grad school this year and is otherwise occupied with basketball. he would essentially be using a scholarship that would only be used to pay for room and board. am i right or am i right?

muwarrior87

that's what I would make of it if he wasn't going to grad school this year.  There were talks that if we needed to clear room, he'd pay his way or his parents would since he's from a good financial situation apparently. If he's just paying to live in Humphrey w/ the boys, I could definitely see that happening if we still do have schollie issues.  dunno how public that would be made though.

mosarsour

I don't believe Dan Fitzgerald has completed his undergraduate studies. I heard that he may have a few credits remaining before completion. I know that he did not walk at graduation.

You cannot be on the team and not be going to school.

dude, face reality.  The $EC would cease to exist if what you said was true.

muhoosier260

i would think that you couldn't play and not be going to school, however w/redshirting and transfer eligibility, it would be entirely possible to graduate in 4 years and have another year of eligibility due to sitting out from transferring, as in fitz's case. i'm curious what the ncaa rulebook says about that

rocky_warrior

To clarify - even if you've already graduated, you must be taking at least 12 credits to play.  Of those 12, you must earn 6 credits (i.e. pass 1/2 your classes) to play the next semester.

QuoteThe NCAA mandates that student-athletes must be registered in a minimum credit load (at least 12 credits per semester). For each regular academic term, you must earn 6 credits in order to be eligible to compete during the next regular academic term. Summer and winter hours cannot be used to fulfill this requirement.

So, Fitz (if he has already graduated) would have to take 4 3-credit classes, pass two, and then enroll in 4 more.  Essentially, he could never show up in 6 of those classes, but I don't think Crean would be down with that... :o

Ready2Fly

Peyton Manning graduated from Tennessee in three years.  To maintain eligibility his fourth year, he had to take graduate courses.  Matt Leinart took a fifth year after redshirting.  To maintain his eligibility for his fifth he had to take strenuous courses like ballroom dancing.

Whether it's graduate courses or b.s. undergrad courses, you still have to be enrolled in the school to play.

muwarrior87

then i expect to see fitz coming from and going to the academic buildings at least once in a while like I have the past 2 years.

Harrison

Rocky is correct you have to be a student and enrolled...one thing that I did leave out was Dan is very interested in playing in Eurpe..the money is pretty good and what a great thing to do after college.  Not too bad to get paid 6 figures and still get to play basketball at an elite level.

deerchaser

This article from the end of last year seems to indicate that Mike Kinsella was in just that situation this past year.  Obviously it isn't the first time we've had a player in this position.
