The value of Mayo

When Todd Mayo was reinstated to the team on Dec. 22, Buzz Williams made it a point to say that Mayo could have played three nights before in the loss at UW-Green Bay.

Double digit points with minutes in the teens.   Great weapon off the bench.

Mayo will tear it up for 20 at some point this season.
When we stop talking, really bad stuff happens.

Yep.  Had he been playing from the start I think there's a decent chance he would be our leading scorer at this point.

wyoMUfan

big time potential (as we saw last year).
I feel he imposed his will physically more often last year and seems to get beat up in the paint this year.
Hopefully he can become a consistent threat for us!

Is this considered an overly negative article? Overly positive? A fluff piece with no substance? I want to make sure I know what all of the journalism experts on this board have to say about the article before I read it.

Anything short of, "OMG #MUBB is the bestest basketball team evah!!!!" will give people something to complain about.

No expert here but I think it is really well done, like this part:"And with Mayo coming off the bench since the LSU game, the No. 25 Golden Eagles, 13-3 and 4-0 in the Big Ten, haven't lost since." I never thought I would see MU in the Big Ten. Who knew?

Don't you remember Hunt posting that as an option a few weeks back? ;)

MUMonster03

He was supposed to be a big part of the team this year and challenge for a starting spot over the summer until he ran into all of his issues.

Personally I was surprised to see him even comeback at all, but he does add some nice depth to the bench and another scoring option if someone else is having an off night. Maybe if he can keep his act together we can finally see what he an truly do, would have benefited from the summer with the team instead of being sent home.

Golden Avalanche

MU winning streak. Mayo eligible. Thomas sits. Clearly defined roles. Momentum.

Coincidences are fun.

Stretchdeltsig

Really love Mayo's game.  He plays fast and physical.  He can score from far out or drive down under.  He plays solid defense.  Best of all, he is calm and collected.  In short, he's got the attributes of a winner.  He's made a big difference since he came back.

What do you mean by evah???? Is that some kind of racial reference? How can you say that?

See, people will always find something to complain about. (and I refuse to use teal).

Agreed. But if there's one positive thing about Mayo's off-court issues, it's that Thomas got meaningful minutes this year. That gives Buzz an idea of what Thomas is truly capable of and, hopefully, gives Thomas some good experience. If nothing else, maybe Thomas can take that experience and use it in practice to make the others a little better.
