Bloomberg TV has a show called "Sportfolio"

On December 5 they did this show:

Dec. 5 (Bloomberg) -- The St. Louis University Billikens believe they are positioned to compete for a national championship. How does a mid-sized school without football go toe-to-toe with the BCS heavyweights? Rick Horrow examines the business model.

It will be Bloomberg TV tonight (Dec 26) at 9PM ET or you can watch it online here (22 minute show):

Since our administration wants to turn us into SLU, I guess it is required viewing here.

Seriously,  it is a good show and it should be watched by anyone that wants to know if the C7 should include SLU.

Your link is a dead ender.  However, as a general note, the SLU comment in regard to Hiroshima that has been ongoing here is indeed a sarcastic joke...but I don't know that folks are fully informed what a cluster SLU is right now with faculty and students openly protesting and issuing votes of "no confidence" in regard to Biondi...and the BOT forced to make administrative moves.  It is a major cluster, and any sports progress and new conference discussions that need their full attention as Fr. Pilarz and his administration have given...is not going to happen to our Jesuit neighbors to the south.  Throw in the uncertainty around hoops with Rick's passing and it may be a warning to delay on the Billikens.

I just tested it and it works

And Dr.  See the last five minutes of the video ... the talk about Biondi's scandal and what the AD is doing to mitigate it.

Nice piece.  Having an on campus arena should continue to pay dividends for them.  My sense is when you have a big backer like Chaifetz and others, they'll continue to fund the program in a way that should continue what the have done the last few years.

Thanks...this one worked...interesting piece on the the success of business-university sports sponsorships, especially in these cities with no NBA teams like a Louisville or STL. Creighton has strong business, civic and NCAA support and great facilities. With NCR leaving Dayton, there are no Fortune 500 companies left. A relative goes to UD and he said Dayton hoops and their minor league baseball team always sell out because of the townies. Important points to consider in new conference members.

The Biondi issue was kind of glossed over I thought. There is a bloody revolt going on.  The knock on Biondi is that he only cares about real estate deals, and he is moving to pinch academics and student life. US News ratings have dropped, he is threatening tenure and pay of faculty, and the students are feeling it. The BOT just fired his head of administration over protests...like a rift going back to a time at MU that caused both academics and athletics to suffer.

I had posted on this in the other C7 thread.

As far as the facilities go, they are top notch, $80 million, on campus,...(SLU's campus 3 times larger than Marquette's.). Global Spectrum manages events, and its one of the busiest venues in the world in the 10-15k arena size.  Wide ranging events.

As far as Biondi goes, the Board of Trustees is a rubber stamp for him.  Many believe he will never be removed from power.  Biondi is not a sports person. Even his biggest detractors would tell you he has done a lot for SLU over the years.  Those same people would also say he has stayed too long, and that he rules with a dictator's iron fist.

Majerus both respected Biondi and clashed with him frequently.  Biondi is the type of person who gets pushed and pushed to build on Campus Arena for many years, and then says, okay its built, all finished.  He needed to be educated about high paying assistant coaches in order to be competitive.  He went back on his promise to Majerus for more Charter flights.  These were typical battles.

When SLU is good/competitive, only Mizzou takes priority in terms of college basketball coverage.  St. Louis blues hockey takes a big priority over Mizzou.  The Blues are extremely popular in St. Louis and have the most passionate fan base there.  They need to be consistently good for a few to several years to regain a bigger following.  They drew big crowds in the 90's at the old arena, 17k etc...Neither Mizzou nor Illinois will play them.  Mizzou did a home and home once under Snyder.  Packed house.  SLU also has both the 22k seat Scottrade Center, and 40k plus seat (for basketball) Edward Jones Dome if and when needed for games.

SLU will be good this year, and next year, then a drop off for a couple of seasons due to the unfortunate Majerus situation, but then have an opportunity to be good again for an extended period.  The new coaching hire will be a big one.

Chaifetz is the real deal.  He comes in from Chicago for many games.

SLU is benefitting this season from the NHL lockout, picking up several Fox Midwest telecasts, normally reserved for the Blues.  (all non-national games for Blues on Fox Midwest). SLU usually is mix of A-10 deal with CBS College Sports and local channel.
