Scoop New Years Predictions
« on: December 28, 2012, 05:29:37 PM »
Predict that Chicos and hoops meet warthog, forgiven, unforgiven, et al for a beer in St Louis for the announcement of the Bilikens to join the C16 on April 27th.

Of course, this will be on the heels of MU winning a national championship!

What's your 2013 prediction for MU?

Goose, we all hope the prediction you made earlier this year will not come to be.  No Hiroshima.

I'll take on 3 predictions, from a basketball perspective, with the conference schedule upon us:

1.  Will MU crack the top 25 this season?   No...we will get back to getting votes but will not get ranked this year.
2.  Will MU make the NCAA tournament?  Yes, but barely
3.  Where will MU finish in the last real season of the BEast?   This is such a tough team to figure out...at times they look very strong and full of potential and other times they really look lost....I will stay optimistic and say we finish 6th in the Big East and that is what gets us in the tourney.

Other predictions?    Buzz stays....incoming class brings more excitement and hope than I can remember....1-2 on current roster are not when the season starts next year.     Oh, and I will continue to explore the world of scotch.

Still sticking with my prediction of Buzz and Larry soul-kissing while holding our NCAA championship trophy.
Have some patience, FFS.

Speaking of New Year's, I have a time zone related question on New Year's Eve.  I've always been located in eastern time zone for the Times Square ball drop.  Midnight was always watching live.  What does TV cover in Central Time or on the west coast?  Do they replay the Times Square ball drop?  Is there a similar countdown in Chicago or Las Vegas?  I've always been curious.

Funny, my wife nor I can remember exactly what they do.  We definitely see a replay of the ball dropping in NYC, at midnight CT.   I think they time delay the whole show one hour ..

I do not think they show the ball dropping twice, once at 11, once at 12, but I could be wrong.  I suppose on occasion we'll flip on CNN or something and see it twice.

Some networks show the drop live from NY...11:00 Central time.  Others show it tape delayed at 12:00 Central.  You can watch it either way.

Here are mine...

1) Marquette's Big East season finishes better than most expect, as the Warriors start slow but finish strong, winning 11-12 games in league play. MU earns a 7-seed in the tournament, makes the second weekend again, this time reaching the Elite Eight after beating Indiana to get to the Sweet 16 and Kentucky to reach the last 8. MU falls to Duke to end dreams of a Final Four.

2) The C7 adds Butler, Xavier, and St. Louis to begin a 10-team league. They negotiate a settlement to get out of the Big East after the 2012-13 season and the new league begins play next season. Late in the year, Creighton and VCU announce they will join the league in 2013-14. In Dayton, the fans are seething.

3) Marquette starts next season ranked #17 after their strong 2013 tourney run and cracks the top-10 by the end of November, highlighted by a win over Ohio State on an aircraft carrier and three wins in Anaheim over Charleston, Creighton, and San Diego State. MU enters the inaugural Neo-Big East season as favorites to win the league.

Chicago did have a ball drop for Y2K, a friend of mine and I arrived just as they lit it up. Looking around online, it seems they don't do this anymore, they just have the fireworks at Navy Pier.
