This is a very good point/idea!...Bump so that it doesn't get lost on the shuffle

Again... if you bring the students in courtside (or thereabouts), you're either going to have 5-8 rows on the floor before the risers (existing seating) start or you're going to have a 10 foot gap between the two rows of courtside students and the risers.  If the point is to create a student section that is closer to the action, then a 10 foot gap between students is going to pretty much defeat the purpose.  And if you have 8 rows of students on the floor - standing the entire game, mind you - nobody is going to want to sit in rows 3-8, because they're not going to be able to see anything.

Short of a complete interior renovation of the lower seating in the BC, there's no way to get the students closer to the floor without introducing more problems (or failing to solve whatever you set out to initially).

If you want an environment where the student section is "on top of" the opposition, then call the Milwaukee County supervisors and lobby them to reject any new stadium proposals.... when the Bucks skip town and the BC is condemned, MU will be forced to build its own basketball arena, and then we can have whatever we want.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I'm not a fan of the "F the whatever" chant and never will be.  But, what's said during the game is one thing - I'm glad the students were loud and energetic. They've been awesome this year, and I hope they keep up their energy level.

What I could NOT stand was the taunting, flipping people off, screaming F-you directly at Badger fans in the hallways surrounding the student sections after the game. How that could be conceived as anything, but completely classless is beyond me. I watched numerous students go after any and every Badger fan not just the stupid punks causing trouble, but older fans just trying to get through the crowds.

Not disputing what you're saying, but unless you've got something more than anecdotal evidence that could be found at just about any major D-I school, I'm unfortunately going to chalk this one up to "happens at any rivalry game."

If what you're saying - and in the context you're presenting it - is true, then it is certainly very disappointing.  This doesn't make MU any better (character-wise) than its rivals, but it certainly doesn't make MU any worse, either.

Watched the game last night on the DVR... the crowd sounded incredible. And a lot of that had to do with the students.

One thing to be careful of... the "F the Badgers" chant sounded like "Let's Go Badgers" on TV. Maybe save that for when they come out for warmups, and drop it once the game starts/

I noticed it seemed to pick up/come out whenever a Badger fan came walking back into the student section.  I don't like it all that much, but at least that made some sense and had me smirking from time to time.

As far as going after Badger fans in the concourse, I had Badger fans mocking my little (at the time 13 year old) sister after the loss at the BC two years ago.  Its nice to pretend that we should be better than that, but screw it, you deal with a year of those haughty dipshits and its nice to have a proper release.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but thought i'd add some fuel to the fire since I am bored and would rather not study for finals.

E-mail to students from Larry today. In a nut shell, praised our support but went on the say that we must show more respect to opposing fans. He mentions offensive language and verbal abuse not being tolerated.

None of this is really surprising. Just shows that it did not go unnoticed by anyone.

Mind posting the email?

Thank you for taking time out of your busy finals week preparation to support our men's basketball team on Saturday. The atmosphere at the Bradley Center, energized by the passion exhibited by more than 4,000 of you, was incredible and no doubt a contributing factor in our victory.  The team and coaching staff could not be more grateful for your dedication and support.

At the same time, you represent Marquette University at every home game, and just as we remind our student-athletes, your actions create a national perception of our university and student body.  While I certainly understand it is easy to get caught up in the emotion of the game we must show respect for fellow and opposing fans alike by representing Marquette University with class and dignity. Offensive language and verbal abuse directed at other individuals will not be tolerated and result in immediate dismissal from the arena and potential limitations on future attendance.

Thank you again for your support of our program and best of luck with finals.

I'm fine with that email, by the sounds of some posters it was necessary. Never go up to someone and act like a jackass.

A Scoop e-mail campaign to prompt an e-mail from the man with the sweaty hat?  This may be our greatest contribution to society yet!
