Watched the game at the MU bar here in DC and I thought the energy brought by the student section was amazing, set the tone.  And you better believe it gave Diamond Stone a good impression....

I know USU started it, but the "I Believe That We Will Win" chant to start the game is just so much fun to hear.  The F the Badgers chant happens every year, it just so happened that this year, the chant was coordinated well enough, to make it very audible on television.  Something I'm proud of as an alum? Not really.  Something I did as a student, hell yes.  And I really cannot jab any of the students now for doing it.

GGGG

I view the F*** the Badgers chant as a "unfortunate byproduct" of a fired up student section.  I wouldn't trade the latter to get rid of the former.

Stronghold

WarriorInDC and The Sultan have it correct.  Is it something we should encourage? No.  Will it happen anyway? Yes.  We're dealing with 18-22ish year olds who are pumped up for a big rivalry game and many of them are also pumped up on booze.

injuryBug

As I have said before I am fine with the chant a few times during the game, but the students could have gotten us old guys going even more if they started a "We are Marquette" chant at some point during the game.  Maybe the students were too good last night and that made the chant more audible to everyone in the arena.
The students were great and loud last night.  I texted a few friends not at the game that the students were as good as I have seen them and that was before the opening tip.  Singing with the 6 year old was awesome.
Many of us old guys cannot participate in the the F the Badgers chant anymore cause we are with our young kids or have several young kids around us.  I understand it is a special thing just for the badgers.  I cannot stand them as much as anyone.

Keep being loud students it will help carry this team.

brewcity77

Regarding "We Are Marquette", I get the impression we'll hear that less. The leaders of the student section made it apparent that they want "We Are" to be used for special circumstances, when the team really needs them or when they're doing really well. I think they should use it a little more than they do because as you say, it gets the entire building involved, but I do like the idea of making the players earn it.

TallTitan34

I willing to bet that most people on this board who went to the Wisconsin game while they were at Marquette chanted "F the Badgers" as well.  I know I did.

Now I simply clap along to it  ;D

the playing of jump around at that point was perfect.  I just laughed at all the badger fans as they asked all the MU fans how our football team is.

I usually hate when the play Jump Around.  But at that point of the game it added an extra insult to injury,  Nice job!!

tower912

I chuckled during Jump Around, because I knew it would frost the vadger fans.    I was known to start "organic fertilizer" chants when I was in the student section, and I share the emotion toward becky, so, though I am not exactly proud, I'm not sad about it either.    Student section held up their end yesterday.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

Dr. Blackheart

Is it me or does Jim Burr look like a Badger?  I thought the chant was directed at him, in which case it was deserved.

Btw, the student section has been great all year but definitely Stud of the Game last night.

RyPow11

The student section was electric yesterday! how could anyone complain about the student support regardless of what they chanted?

Benny B

Unless you attended BYU or Oral Roberts, any person who ever attended college should know damn well that you simply cannot escape at least one off-color chant when a game starts after 4:00p.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Goose

I am happy the students showed up in good numbers and overall were quite clever.

I bought you a sweater vest for Christmas. ;)

I was thrilled to see the lines of students waiting to get in the BC when I got downtown, and more thrilled to hear them singing (as did I) the national anthem.  The best, tho, was the noise and spirit they brought thoughout the entire first half.  They were noticably more subdued in the second half, as was the MU energy on the court.  I think the BC as a whole fed off the student energy last night, and don't know if the players second half lull caused the students lull, or, vice versa, or, if I should give credit to BoBo the Ryan for it.

Agree on the students lining up early. We drove by there around 10:30 on way to Rick's funeral and kids were lined up already. If they wait outside that long on a cold, damp day they deserve to make a mistake or two.

Who are all these ....whatever, criticising the students for their chants! Hell ESPN guys kept on praising the students throughout the game. Do not know when you went to MU, but when I was there from '79-'83 it was worse... toilet paper thrown on the court, curse chants at refs constantly (been told to tone down or a tech foul against Marquette would be called), and opposing players were targeted... like Gminski sucks chanted by probably half of the crowd the whole game against Duke. So we are a Catholic institution, and I'm a proud Catholic, but the Catholic church is a much more worse example than our student section.

Heck, when I was there (1974-1978), the Badgers were just another cupcake we beat four times out of four.

We knew we had Bucky ever since the "Al" incident with Old Man Hughes in the early 1970s. Be nice if we were back to this again.

Why does MU have two rows of press tables behind the basket on the students side?  Why not put those tables on the other side and have the students right up to the baseline?  It will look much better on TV.

This is a very good point/idea!...Bump so that it doesn't get lost on the shuffle
The "average fan" is an idiot.

Having a little structure buffer between the students and the court of play is not a bad thing. I'm fine with it, prevents anyone from doing anything stupid.

That and there are expensive seats to be sold on the other end of the court.  MU will not give up that revenue.

Technically, I do think any of those courtside seats are 'sold' but good point.

Despite the student section performance on Saturday, they do not need any additional seats that takes revenue.

Did MU really end up selling off student section tickets to the general public for the game?

Either that, or they took two sections (429 and 430) away this year and never updated the seating chart.

I'm pretty sure there were kids sitting in those sections for Colgate, but I could be wrong. Or they could have been allowed to sit there since there was no one there anyway.

MUFan42

I bought tickets in 429 off stubhub for me and my pops...I sat next to some mu students in grad school...I'd say a majority of the section was younger and 90% were mu fans

Seeing it on TV, the students were awesome and totally into the game.  Tons of energy and made me really excited to get back for a game.  Never been too thrilled about the F the Badgers chant, but I can definitely live with it.  Keep it up!
