SG JaJuan Johnson Targets Decision Date

Over the weekend, ESPN 100 shooting guard JaJuan Johnson (Memphis, Tenn./Southwind) took his third and final official visit to Marquette for the Golden Eagles' Midnight Madness festivities.

"It went good," he said. "The atmosphere was crazy because it's a basketball town. They had pictures and signs with my name on it."

Johnson has narrowed his list to Alabama, Marquette and Miami and says a decision will come soon, probably in the next 10 to 12 days. The 6-foot-5 guard talked about his other two finalists, the Crimson Tide and the Hurricanes.

Alabama: "It's a good program. They think they're only a couple years from competing for a championship, and it's like three hours away."

Miami: "I can come in and get immediate playing time because they have a need there, and I feel like I can be one of the big names when I get there."

Although it looks like Johnson is planning to make his decision before the early signing period in November, he wants to wait until the spring before he signs his letter of intent.

"I'm just going to commit," he said. "I don't think I'm going to sign until the spring because I've seen the teams practice, but I really haven't seen them play. I want to see them play, so I can see myself in the system."

Johnson is ranked No. 62 overall in the ESPN 100 rankings.

This has me more optimistic.  I get the feeling from this that he will commit to MU but he wants to make sure the Buzz is still there. Why else committ but to sign?  He has had to see the teams play.

He probably wants to see if Blue or Mayo are leaving.

This is silly. What's the value of a commitment now, if the loi isn't signed?

Hopefully, this will not bode well for Alabama given their slow pace.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Not all that different than if an NLI was signed, really.

We're still not speculating that Vander could go pro early, are we?

I think it is more likely that Wilson goes pro or Mayo goes to Europe. However. Vander could decide to go even if it is not a wise decision.

Right now MU does not have an available scholarship, so him not actually signing could be a way of not creating a problem if he wants to go to MU and no one else leaves.

Adam Zagoria tweeted that Johnson will not visit UConn and will decide between Marquette, Bama, and Miami.
