Chew ready to build Marquette on the recruiting trail

Written by: Mark Strotman

When Tony Benford accepted the head coaching position at North Texas on Apr. 24, it left Marquette in a bind for more reasons than Buzz Williams losing his top assistant of four years. Benford recruited Chicago, a pipeline Marquette has ... Continue reading →

If he can land Nunn, that would be a major recruiting win. Illinois seemed to be gaining steam on that recruitment, but since Chew headed north, it's turned back into a wait-and-see situation. Really hope that his familiarity with Buzz and the addition of Chew help with that one. Reeling Kendrick in would be instant validation of Chew's hire, in my opinion.

1. Stop humping my leg

2. I hope it would help make him a better journalist.  I edit the work of numerous students as part of my job and? I constantly stress the importance of proper grammar and spelling.  I thought he would appreciate the fact that he had the coaches name wrong.  It is an easy fix and looks like it might have been autocorrected in the first place.

3. Seriously... stop humping my leg

Should be coach's, not coaches.

Nice work Strotty, looking forward to part 2

Was just having a little fun with Sultan - giving a hard time.  No malice intended...surprised my post got deleted!

We were in good with Nunn before Chew. So I do not know how much credit Chew should get. It is more like how much blame should Chew get if Nunn goes elsewhere.

Really?  I'm not going to blame anyone if Nunn goes elsewhere, especially Isaac Chew.  It isn't easy landing 17-18 year olds and getting Kendrick to come to Marquette would be a bonus for this class and Buzz has been involved in this one since forever.

If Kendrick picks a school other than Marquette, it's because he felt a connection that he didn't feel in Milwaukee and there are many factors that play into college decisions.

If we get any one of about four guards, I will be happy.  Nunn isn't the only one that could have an impact.

Earl Tatum

Haven't seen any CHEW results. Haven't heard who he is in on.

That is also the way I see it. However, Chew has a lot of ground to make up, since all the recruiting staff left. Recruiting is about building relationships. I also do not think it helps him to go from Missouri to Illinois to MU in such a short period of time. I think Chew will have a greater effect on next years class than this years class.

I'm inclined to agree with Bilsu-too soon to have an impact esp after the jumparound.  Down the road probably.

On the other hand, not uncommon for a coach to 'take' a recruit with him when he jumps.  Like he said, depends on the relationship.
