We're on his list of 8, as I recall, but he said he wants to stay close to home, and all the other schools are far closer to his native Texas. Would be a huge get, but I'd be very surprised if we ended up landing him.

Marqus Howard

Looks like a poor man's Anthony Davis; he's very tall, wiry, and athletic.

Jay Bee

He's solid,.. nice AAU team, but think our chances are highest w/one of his teammates... who is able to shoot in a traditional manner

On Friday morning, Shepherd, a four-star prospect, informed Jayhawk Slant that he's trimmed his list and just five schools remain.

"Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Kansas and Oklahoma are the schools left on my list," Shepherd told Jayhawk Slant just moments ago. "I've been looking at a lot of stuff and researching a lot of schools, so I think these five schools are the best schools for me. I pretty much plan to take all five visits before I make my decision.

I wonder if Scott Monarch was involved with his recruiting, being from Texas. That might have been another factor in getting trimmed from his list.

Also possible someone let him get his hands on a map and he realized Marquette isn't close to home. One thing that gave me pause with him (and would with Emmanuel Mudiay or Jordan Mickey as well) is the transfer to Prime Prep, which is Deion Sanders' new prep school in Texas. The school apparently won't be fielding any varsity sports teams this year and there are already questions about the eligibility of guys that will be coming out of there. As good as this kid looks, I think anyone at Prime Prep should have a huge "buyer beware" stamp on them.
