Diamond Stone #2 with a bullet.  Who knows, maybe when 2014 comes around he is #1.

I haven't seen this brought up before, but consider this:

Wouldn't it be in our best interest for the players that we are interested in to be under-ranked?  The higher a player goes in the rankings, the more interest he attracts from elite programs and the stronger the chance the player might start to think he is too good to play for Marquette.

I mean sure, once he signs, I am all for them being on the top of the rankings, but until then, I'd be fine with our prospects being grossly underrated, because I trust Buzz's instincts more than Scout.
Have some patience, FFS.

Warriorchick is trying to turn us into SLU!!

You are right though, the more attention he gets, the less likely a destination Marquette becomes.

Take Du. Wilson for example, he might not've been in the top 150 and since he has committed is now borderline top 50. Looney and Stone are too high both being top 10. Will be harder to land them.

Duane Wilson was most definitely in the top 150 when he committed. One of the "biggies" had him at #92, and there was already talk that he was moving up.

+1. He was being recruited by Missouri and Memphis, so I'd have to consider that pretty high up. That's about as high up on the recruit ranks as you can get before bluebloods.

Think you make a valid point, however, so long as Buzz remains at MU - the trajectory we are on - we will soon be looked at as an elite/blue blood program again - much like we were back in the days of Al.  If we can breakthrough and get to the Elite 8 this year - I believe the 2013-2014 season assuming all guys are back...we have a legit chance at a Final Four.  Jamil Wilson likely gets drafted after that season.  Obviously hard to go to an Elite 8 and Final Four, but it certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility.  Take back to back Sweet 16's and throw in an Elite 8, Final Four, and Buzz's track record of sending guys to the NBA - soon we will legitimately be in play for 5 Stars.  Only threat is conference affiliation.

If Stone comes to MU, it will be based on Buzz's track record and DW2's presence. With him being rated this highly now, he's going to get blue blood offers. If he drops, he'll still be top-20 long enough that the Dukes and Kansas' of the world pursue him, if not the UKs. At this point, his name is known by every coach in the country. We have to hope our positives and proximity is strong enough, because they are coming. Look at Tokoto--he dropped like a rock and still is going to UNC. Stone will get that interest.

A #2 ranking definitely puts Stone in the one and done player category, and Kentucky is the destination for those guys now.  It'll take an incredibly strong relationship (and/or a strong desire to stay home on his part) to pull him out of that orbit.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

If a kid is a Top 5 recruit, he stands no better chance of being a one and done if he goes to Kentucky or Marquette.  Certainly Kentucky has reeled in the most Top 5 talent recently, and therefore it follow they are the one and done leader.  We are beginning to scratch the surface of blue blood in college hoop - give Buzz a few more years and I suspect we will be reeling in at least 1 5-star player per year, maybe even 2 5 stars per year.

I'm not saying going to Kentucky makes Stone a one and done, I'm saying that being projected as a one and done makes Kentucky a very likely destination for Stone.  No other school has anywhere near the experience dealing with those players and no other coach has anywhere near the experience dealing with those players as Calipari and that's a very strong selling point.

I don't think you realize just how bold a statement this is. Kansas, Ohio State, North Carolina, Indiana, and Connecticut had a combined ZERO 5-star recruits in 2012 per Scout. Those are all legitimate blue-blood universities. Before we start expecting Buzz to get 2 five-star players per year, let's let him get 1 five-star player period.

Wow, I'll have what you're drinking. That is wildly optimistic. There is a very short list of true elite schools. I would say it includes: UNC, Kentucky, UCLA, Duke, Kansas, Indiana, and Ohio State. No way does MU crack that list today—or anytime in the future. It just won't happen. MU would be very lucky to land one 5-star recruit every four or five years. Sorry, but that's the hard, cold reality.

Ellenson Guerrero

Duane Wilson better be in Stone's ear every single day, talking about all the games they could win together, and Burton needs to be selling him about putting Milwaukee on the map in basketball. But even in the best of all possible worlds, I can't imagine this kid turning down UNC, Duke, Kentucky, etc... it'll be a truly sad day, especially as I figure he'll string Marquette along so as not to let down people around town.

Getting back to warriorchick's thoughts.....I think it can be argued that Buzz has landed 5 star caliber players (or close) that were underrated when recruited.  In the end,  we want guys that play like 5 stars.....those are the REAL 5 star players.  Jimmy Butler was a 1st round pick.  Crowder was POY.  DJO wasn't too shabby either.
