The name change was stupid.  The "vote" was illegitimate.  Those of us who are not over it are not going to get over it!  Leave us alone!

Hey Ave -- we just like to laugh about it. The whole thing is so surreal that I sometimes wonder whether it was a segment in the Twilight Zone or something.

I'm still wondering why Marquette didn't go with my proposals -- Inquisition (after a part of Church history in which the Jesuits were heavily involved) or Flames, after Joan of Arc Chapel.

I'm over it. I'm not trying to change anyone at O'Hara Hall (or wherever they hang out these days) and I'm certainly not going to offer a $1 million contribution to become Warriors again. Besides, my wife would kill me if I offered $1 million for a change in a basketball nickname!

All I want is another national championship before I pay a visit to St. Peter!

Exactly.  It makes me feel good that the "Sioux supporters" are now trying to amend the North Dakota constitution....I would never go that far!!!!

I just bitch about it on a message board and instruct my family to never refer to them as the Golden Eagles...ever.

Did Notre Dame get permission from Dublin?

As an American of Irish ancestry (well, partially anyway, though I am probably more Irish than most native Americans who claim native American ancestry), I would like the NCAA to compel the University of Notre Dame to change their athletic teams nickname.

I believe the stereotype of "Fighting Irish" fosters the incorrect and discriminatory notion that all Irishmen are belligerent and ill-tempered.

I believe the nickname and associated leprechaun mascot implies a stereotyping that we of Irish ancestry consume too much alcoholic beverage and tend to become intoxicated on a consistent basis and see little green men (Ironically, isn't it the NCAA who won't serve beer at their tournament games... but they let a Fighting Irish nickname pass).

I believe that the University of Notre Dame should be treated the same way the University of North Dakota is being treated with the Fighting Sioux nickname. They should have to change it or their athletic teams won't be able to bring their cheerleaders and mascot to NCAA tournaments and Notre Dame will be unable to host NCAA events.

Oh and as a future rich person, I want the NCAA to compel a change in Vanderbilt University's nickname.

I believe calling the team the "Commodores" assumes that rich people are frivolous, have too much money and are more interested in yachting than tackling the problems of the world. Oh, and their mascot suggests we wear funny hats and dress off the wall!

Perhaps if Vanderbilt and the NCAA led the charge and wiped out discriminatory stereotypes about rich people, we could mingle with ordinary society. An NCAA compelled change might also begin the process of allowing us all to reason together and end the polarization and class warfare in America.

I heard Vanderbilt is considering changing their nickname to the One-Percenters.
