"The Big 12 is on the verge of a blockbuster TV contract that will put its media revenue among the top tier of college conferences, despite losing several marquee programs in the last two years.

...

Additionally, the new media revenue could effectively end any discussion of the Big 12 expanding back to 12 teams, not the news that the University of Louisville wanted to hear. The Cardinals had been positioned as a strong candidate to join the Big 12 if it expanded."

Off-topic, are we getting Memphis for all sports? When are they coming?

I think if we get Memphis and Temple they should cut the San Diego State, Boise State, football only crap.

If we get one horrendous and one mediocre football team we should cut the one mediocre team and one very good team we got, even though they don't affect basketball at all or any other sport we care about and are the only things keeping the fragile and very important basketball conference intact at this point?  What?

2013.  San Diego State and Boise add stability with a 12 team football league.  It isn't a bad move by any stretch.

College athletic directors are living in La La land.  If they were smart they use this extra revenue to build an athletic department endowment because when they have to pay Division I athletes - contracts like this make that inevitable - they will need the extra money.  I wouldn't feel sorry for Texas A&M and Mizzou in the short term either.  They will do even better than they would have done in the Big 12 when the SEC redoes its contract.

No wonder West Virginia was able to come up with however much they had to in order to leave early.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Don't worry, no one feels sorry for Texas A&M or Mizzou.

Football-only members in Idaho and Southern California is weak sauce. Go after full members with football teams.

If you can get a blockbuster deal with 10 teams, why divide it up among 12?  The conference title game has to generate enough extra money that it justifies each team giving up 1/6th of the money they are getting from the TV contract.  Sounds like it was worth it for the Big Ten, but will not be for the Big 12.

And then you have the ACC giving up 1/7th of each teams money to Syracuse and Pitt even though they already had a conference title game.  There has to be resentment there for two pretty bad football teams.

Definitely good news if the Big 12 wants to stand pat, but yes by all means there is no advantage at all to not having Boise State et al in for football only.  That makes all the other moves possible, including letting the worst D1 football team in the country (Memphis) in to bring a top-notch basketball effort.

The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

Why not poach Houston from CUSA along with Memphis? They're a Top 25 football program. Boise is in a crap market with no TV audience. And football only is Busch league

Good idea, as Houston is already joining the Big East.

My bad, I obviously haven't been able to keep up on all the realignment in real time. But my point still stands. Houston, Temple, etc. are good moves for ALL SPORTS. These are the kinds of moves that should be done.

Also, UMASS is moving up to FBS. We should grab them for all sports.
