I love Vander and he's made be strides playing within himself this year But his 3-Point shoot is really not right.  He's done very well on his free throws.  His release is good his rotation is good.  It seems like on his outside shoot his jump is all messed up.  If you watch his legs they are all over the place when he releases the ball.  I saw it twice at the game tonight.  I assume his legs being all over is not allowing his body to be in a consistent postition so he never know where his shoot is going to go.  I wish DJO could teach him that little set shot DJO is so go at taking.  Stay on the ground and shoot it like a free throw only longer.  If Vander could just hit one or two wide open 3s when they are there add that to the points he is getting at the line and one or two layups and you've got a consistent 3rd scorer and someone the defense has to honor on the perimeter.

Silkk the Shaka

Towards the end of his senior year, McNeal got very good at doing exactly what you recommend.  Then his senior year his three point shot was money as he shot it like an extended free throw.  I hope Vander can make similar strides, as you say, like he has at the FT line.

StillWarriors

It is strange how he almost turns sideways as his right arm extends to release his shot. Kudos to him for finding ways to contribute while continuing to search for a consistent shot. It'll come.

🏀

He's gotta get some arc on that ball. Great progress by the staff through with his overhaul thus far. The free throw and short range jumper is good. Mid and three pointers hopefully come after the next offseason.

it seems to me that his legs do a unnecessary double pump when he is in the air. of course that is just how i view his shot

Vander is shooting 25% from deep, which means .. stop shooting.

I do wonder .. I think we've seen Vander hit 3s when the shot clock is expiring, and he doesn't have time to set up.  If I recall, Cubillian had the same problem.  If he got the ball and had to shoot immediately, his %age was good.  If he had extra time to shoot, he missed.

No...you don't tell a player to not shoot within the flow of the offense.

He definitely has a hitch or double pump that he does that effects his shot. he doesnt do it all the time, but most of the time, and as expected when he does it he almost always misses. I dont claim to be a basketball genius, but if I see it, I would hope someone on the team/staff would and would work with him.

I would tell him to shot more, needs more confidence on the court.  I like when he shots it, he may not make it but it will
make him work harder in the gym.  Next year he will have to become more consistent.  Needs to build up his body a little bit
but not sure he can.  He does a lot of the little things but getting 10 points a game is OK, with the dynamic duo.

Big Papi

He has Dom James syndrome.  He shoots 3s like he is going up for a dunk.  He releases the ball with a hitch after he reaches the apex of his high jump forcing him to adjust his shot in mid-air and shoot a line drive 3.  Add a little spin to it looks ugly.

A smaller, more consistent jump would go a long way towards a more consistent jumpshot.  The hitch is what it is and probably to late to tinker around with it.

25% isn't good, but I think Vander only has to shoot around 30% to keep guys from simply giving him that shot.

2 holes in his game right now:
- strength/body control in the lane (gotta finish in traffic)
- jump shooting

If he can get better at those 2 things over the next 2 years, I think he is an all-conference player.

I'm going to disagree.  Vander has not shown he is a good shooter from distance.   I don't care what the flow of the offense is .. if you can't make the shot ~35% or more of the time, you have the red light unless the shot clock is near 0 and you're the last option.

Vander can take all the extra 3 pointers he wants during practice at the Al.  Maybe next year he'll have a better average.
