Why is this thread even in existence?

So that Ners point of view isn't shoved at the end of a 10 page thread? Why is Ners point of view so important that it requires its own thread.

If you don't want a huge deal made of the sexual assault article, maybe try NOT posting an opinion in a new thread that directly references the thread containing the sexual assault article.

This thread is pure ego. And it is lame.

Did you not know that potential recruits and their parents are most concerned with the protocols for handling allegations of sexual assault between a private school and public law enforcement?  That far trumps the ability of the basketball program being able to take 3 star talent and get it drafted in the NBA.

..."Thanks Buzz for taking the time to see our son play in some games, and camps. Thanks for the many mailings, calls and texts. Thanks for the on campus visit, meeting the team, and the for the great tour of the faclilities, dorms, and the area. Thanks for telling us about the traditions, the players in the NBA, and the programs history. All that is important....but to our family the big key is...

What is campus security's policy on reporting an assault to the local police?...Take your time here Buzz, because...your answer here is going to tilt our family's decision on where our son will play and go to school...Junior...listen up here....coach Williams is about to give us the most important answer ever, in the two years of your recruitment by MU...okay coach, go ahead....

Well, er...ummm...did I ever tell you the story of the bottle and it tipping over....lol
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Fair enough.

I'm glad you quoted it, looks like the mods deleted my post...not sure why...but your quote allowed it to be captured.

Well done HW...I got a good chuckle out of that.

As for Ners, seriously dude get a grip....the world will not end because 5 people on a message board criticized something MU did (or might have failed to do.....allegedly).

Perhaps you are in the camp that couldn't understand the sarcasm (without teal) and comedy in my original post?  Houston Warrior got it right..it is pure comedy that some here made it seem like the world was going to end because of how MU handled that situation..as if it would negatively impact recruiting??  Seriously?  To me, those would be the best targets for your "seriously dude get a grip" message!

I understand your attempt at sarcasm and humor (not very well pulled off but the attempt was understood). My point however as stated by others is that starting a new thread targeting the people that are "freaking out" about the incident probably won't accomplish your goal of them understanding how ridiculous they sound. I actually agree with what you are trying to say overall, but this thread and your reactions in it just put you in the same category but on the opposite side.

Ners did not start this topic.  His post was in response to a post in another thread.  The Mods moved several "bickering" posts into one thread.  Ners post just happenned to be the first.

In the original thread, it was well played, IMHO.

Claims and allegations are not always facts.  As mentioned, negative news sells - as we can see from the thread length between the Jimmy and Jerel story, versus the sex assault story.  Reporters are hungry to scoop and get their name in the limelight...and are always after expose pieces.

Obviously none of us would like to have MU in the news for how it handled an ALLEGED sexual assault that began as consensual sex - but I don't think MU deserves all the bitch slapping its gotten here.

Anything for MU basketball, right?  Top story in the largest paper in the Midwest and you dismiss it as reporters trying to dig something up.  It made Marquette look bad.  It was embarrassing.  The actions do not shut down the school but they certainly left the university in a bad light here in Chicago for some alumni and propspective students.  If you are a father and considering sending your daughter to Marquette does that article result in a bit more internal questioning?   You do not live up here, some of us do.  It stung.

One could argue that MU might be better off in all of this because of the changes made, but that article exposed MU's affairs in this area in a negative light.  There will be lawsuits from this and financial settlements.

When I become a father, I'll worry about my daughter going off to any college.

What I am is a realist - there is never anything good that can come out of he said/she said. There are many journalists who are limelight seeking, and an expose piece of journalism is the fastest ticket to fame (and as you wrote was the top story in the Chicago Tribune - mission accomplished).  DPS didn't see this case as a rape, the girl didn't go to police when she had every chance to do so, and eventually when the case got to MPD, there weren't any charges brought forth, and the whole incident involved 2 people who had a previous consensual sexual relationship, and the girl by her own admission began the evening in question consensually.

Sure, you'd rather not have MU in the headlines for its policy on how it handles such cases, but lets not over-react here.  And if there are lawsuit, I hope to God MU defends itself, instead of just conceding to the student - MU has chosen to go the apologetic route in all of this, and that hasn't exactly boded well for public perception.  It should come out swinging and defend itself  - DPS involvement, offering MPD involvement to the girl (which she declined)  By going apologetic, MU gives the impression it was guilty/negligent in all of this..which in my opinion is not the case.
