He's fairly connected nationally, and that's exactly why I don't put much stock into reports like that.

MU's Athletic Department is smaller, and the number of outside ($$) interests that would be privy to that info is a lot smaller. Far less places for a leak like that to come.

Especially since he's wrong on the buyout total, I'm guessing he got some info from a Big 12 person who has no idea.

I am pretty confident Buzz is staring at (at least) 2 offers.  One from MU, One from OU.

I take solace in the fact that this time MU knows what's going on; they may not like the final answer but this time they're in the loop.

Any one wonder why the UNO vs. Buzz case was settled quietly? A buyout can include many things besides a coach's salary.  Things like a repayment of housing relocation costs or education or living expenses for a family tied to time periods, harm for a private university who relies on its #1 sport to drive applications, headhunter fees for a future coach...and the restitution for settling lawsuits. All may be perks mentioned in a contract.  Just saying

Cottingham is no slouch lawyer--in fact he is an excllent deal maker, he knows the value of basketball to MU and pays and protects that investment. That was learned when Crean hightailed it out of here where MU was caught off guard. And no, this is not slavery, Cottingham leaned into Buzz big time, including overpaying to Buzz's potential. And Buzz is not naive, but he is loyal. Similarly, Broeker is a very experienced PR guy and is well-connected.

I will take Cottingham's word on this.  I am inferring that Rosiak's article when he interviewed Cottingham included questions about that number.  Rosiak would not publish otherwise.

I like that Cottingham is being proactive here by getting this type of stuff out there.  It is really too bad he can't just enjoy this Sweet 16 run.  He has to indirectly battle over Buzz and probably make worst case scenario preparations.

OU waiting until the tourney is over makes sense.  All of their candidates will still be on the table.  No reason not to try to contact Buzz or Wichita State's coach.

Now Oklahoma State is Buzz's dream job?   

Buzz is too nice to rip on a school.  He thinks everyone is great for who they are as a person.  He has probably been complimentary to every school in the country privately.  People who don't know him can take that for whatever they want.

I emailed Rosiak and he just sent this back ....

A 10-year contract? Makes no sense. He already has a six-year rollover. Meaning the contract NEVER ENDS, and Buzz's pay keeps going up.

If Buzz wants out, he has to pay the buyout. If MU wants out, it has to pay Buzz all the money he's owed over the next six years.

As far as the other stuff, whatever. Everyone is just throwing stuff at the wall, hoping it will stick.

Rosiak has a GREAT rapport with Buzz...no way he would report anything that he hasn't confirmed with Buzz or Athletics...there would just be too much trust he'd lose with Buzz and access he'd lose w/ MU.

I do not know him.

I do know that he "reported" that Mike Anderson would stay at Mizzou and never really had any serious interest in AK.  I do know he "reported" that Mike Anderson's parking sign was taken away by Mizzou AD Mike Alden.  I do know he later had to publicly retract that because the sign was not taken down by Mizzou or Alden and was in fact stolen.  I do know that he uses terms such as "As I was the first one to report,"...quite often(low self-esteem)...and that he now insists he of all the people involved was the single person to break the Anderson to AK story.  I know that he is already adding Oklahoma St. As where Buzz wants to go to safely backpedal if Buzz doesn't go to OU. 

I do know all of these things.
