Today's USA Today article regarding the NCAA field begins:

"Major-conference tournament play - also known as The Week in Which Marquette Gets Yet Another Chance to Give the Big East Conference 11 Teams in the NCAA Tournament - starts Tuesday.

Sounds like they don't think we're in - yet.

"In another indicator of what this season has been like, Marquette, Michigan State and/or Southern California can tie the NCAA record for most losses for an at-large entrant since the field went to 64 in 1985." I had not seen that reported before.

To be clear; that record is 14 losses?

Teams have been selected as an at-large with 14 losses on six separate occasions thus far.

The worst record to get an at-large selection is 16-14, which I think has happened 3 or 4 times.

I believe the most recent was Arizona, they went 19-14 and made the field in 2007-08 under Kevin O'Neill.

Yep - and they made it the next year with 13 losses.

Interesting that 14 or 13 loss teams have made it a total of 19 times since 1985. But it seems like there has been an uptick recently, with seven in the last five years.
