I blame the ref who strained his calf and missed the 2nd half.  1 foul in the first half for CO, then 3 in about 3 minutes? Sound to me like the other 2 refs overcompensating for the missing guy.

Oh brother....

If Otule and DG can continue their development to the point where they consistently contribute, I'd imagine that it'll also help with the recruiting of future bigs.

The logic being that it'll be much harder for opposing coaches to tell bigs that MU can't help them get better.

Until now, it would be tough to argue that we've demonstrated that either Buzz or Crean made their bigs into better post players (Novak was more a guard, Jackson was pretty good when we got him)

To be fair, Barro, Merritt and Burke all improved over their time at MU. Barro was particularly impressive considering he never played HS ball.

Merritt eventually became a 28 mpg, 11 point, 7 rebound player.  Barro was 27 mpg, 8 ppg, 7 rpg his junior year, slightly less as a senior.  I'm not sure what people expected, but this isn't out of line for players ranked 50 to 100 in the RSCI--and of the three, only Merritt was ranked that high.

I would be very pleased if Otule and/or Gardner can put up 27 mpg, 8-11 ppg, and 7 to 8 rpg over the next two years.

I agree with Barro and to some degree Burke.  But Merritt was a Top 75 player coming out of high school.  I would also argue, stats aside, Merritt had a better Junior year than Senior year when he had to be a "go to" guy as a Senior.  Was not impressed with his development.

A good player, mind you, but not something you could brag to recruits on how much he improved.

Together they have done exactly this over the last three games.  So hopefully it has already started.
