I highly recommend following Deputy Athletic Director Mike Broeker on twitter.  He always has some good stuff.

Oof.  What's our big win in these things?  Florida Gulf Coast?

BrewCity83

Well, our record in the golds this year sucks.  And our record in the navys hasn't been anything to hold up to any superstition.
Let's get a big win in the '77 blues tonight!
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

GGGG

Well, since we wear gold and baby blues in our biggest games, that is why we have a bad record in both.

+1.

Broke and Scott K. had twitter pics of an 18-wheeler with Tennessee graphics parked on the Vandy campus yesterday. Campus cops were talking to the driver. That's how serious it gets down there.

I don't want to hear anyone talk about how the baby blues are cursed. If anything, we punch above our weight in them. The reason they're "cursed" is because we practically exclusively bust them out for marquee opponents in their gym.

2009-10
At West Va. (Who was #6 in the country at the time): Lost on last possession.
At Syracuse (Who was #5 in the country at the time): Lost by 5
At St. John's: Won

2008-09
Dayton (Who went on to the NCAA tournament that year): Lost by 14
At Louisville (Who was number 6 in the country, and won the Big East): Lost by 4, despite having lost Dominic James to injury the prior game

2007-08
At Louisville (Who finished 14-4 in the league): Lost by 20, leading to the "The baby blues are cursed" nonsense.
vs. Florida Gulf Coast (won)

My post wasn't meant to raise the curse superstition, just lament some of the bad memories that they bring up.  Though I'd been thinking the 3/1/2008 phantom 3-pt foul game against Georgetown was in baby blues - it appears to have been in the home whites - so perhaps I don't have to worry about my memory being so sharp anyway.  :-[

So we can all look forward to a close, hard fought loss tonight.  Woohoo!  I was more in favor of them before I read this.

The baby blues are also somewhat...feminine. They may be a nod to the glorious past but the other unis wear a lot better. The baby blues are like the Redcoats or Zoaves marching into battle in red.

The Candy Canes are superb when matched with a Gorgeous Gulf Coast Coppery Complexion and accessorized with Gilt-Edged Pre-Season Runner-Up Banners.

Speaking of the Candy Canes, I saw video of Seltzer and Buckley wearing them at some AAU tournament. The only thing worse would have been The Bronzed Behemoth of Bloomington Himself sporting them. Beyond pathetic.

I LOVE the baby blues. My favorite uniform color.

BTW, that 07-08 UL team was all but Tyler Hansbrough going nuts down the stretch away from the Final 4, and UNC won it all that year.
GO WARRIORS!

UNC lost to Kansas in the Final Four in 2008, who went on to beat Memphis for the title.  UNC won the next year.

Louisville crushed us in both games in 07-08.  Seemed like they just had our number.

I hope we haven't hit the point of entitlement yet where we expect to win games on the road against top 10 opponents. Sure a loss is a loss, but a close loss ain't a blowout.

You're right DS, my bad. They were the favorite that year, too, IIRC, but didn't win it. That was the year KU had about a 40-12 lead in the first half, almost blew it, but ended up winning by a fairly healthy margin, then Memphis didn't make  FT at the end, opted not to foul, KU hit a shot to tie it and won in OT.
GO WARRIORS!
