One of the commencement speakers was C Everett Koop, Surgeon General (back in 1985).  When he was introduced, the whole student body (well those of us who were Brewer's fans) started yelling "KOOOOOOP"  I am not sure if he thought we were booing him.

Former American Football League All-Pro football player for the Dallas Texans/Kansas City Chiefs, Prairie View A&M University Hall of Fame inductee and one of the first blacks to play professional football in the American Football League.

Prairie View A&M is the second oldest University in Texas, a historically black school, and member of the SWAC.

Its campus is 25 miles NW of my home, along a notoriously sneaky and agressive speed trap along Hwy 290 , and....

It holds the ignomous NATIONAL record of 80 straight football losses over almost ten years, without a win, 1989-98.

This school and Texas Southern Univ. remain Texas' odd holdovers of the Plessy V. Ferguson days of "separate but equal" . Of course neither have ever been the equal of UT, or Texas A&M.
