I actually don't have a problem with it aside from being confusing as hell because it's totally different from how they've handed out access to date.  If they're only checking your tv subscription and not your internet connection, that makes a lot of sense.  If looking for both now, then I'm baffled.

I'm not sure how they are doing it, but many in the industry are looking for your tv subscription to authenticate.  Where it gets tricky with ESPN is they demand the ISP have a deal with them which isn't the case with most other providers in this entire concept of OTT (Over the Top) or TV Everywhere, which is where the industry is going.  Because ESPN has that ISP requirement they may be looking for authentication of both, but I'm not sure.

This is what I was referring to.  This is the first I've heard of them doing it any differently, but if they're moving to checking TV subscriptions instead of ISPs, I think that's a win for customers.  Especially if ESPN adds a subscription option on top for those without TV subscriptions, though I think that's a longshot at the moment.
