Giving a National Audience a Glimpse of Marotta via Breitbart Story

While many of you who live in Milwaukee knew him better than me, I wanted to give the rest of the nation a glimpse of the treasure we lost in Marc Marotta. Here is the piece I wrote for Breitbart Sports on a couple of stories from personal encounters with Marc. RIP.<div>

Fun fact:  Marc was at Harvard Law the same time as Len Elmore.  Len's wife was jsglow's co-worker when we lived in Boston at the time, and Len would come to the company parties.
jsglow and I were probably the only two people on the planet that knew both Len and Marc, but not through either basketball or Harvard.

jsglow and I were probably the only two people on the planet that knew both Len and Marc, but not through either basketball or Harvard.

In a very weird twist I was with Len Elmore on Wednesday when Marc passed, but of course we didn't know that had happened.  Len was honored as a Champion Award winner by Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal at the World Sports Congress conference here in Los Angeles.  He was honored at the Champions lunch, along with David Falk, Donna Deverona, Mike Traeger, and Tom Jernstedt (considered the father of the modern day NCAA tournament).

Based on the timing of Marc's death, Len Elmore was literally on stage being honored and giving a speech.

BTW when I said incorrect facts, those were not directed towards what a great person Marc was.

Scott Walker was kicked out of MU in 1990 and did not attend with the author or Marc in the early 80s.

Secondly, unfortunately Marc passed on Wednesday, not Thursday

Ironic that you state facts were wrong, and then you state Scott Walker was kicked out of MU.  Good lord.  The university put out a statement that he left in good standing.  Nice try.

OK, I admit Breitbart normally only makes stories on Democrats their lead story if they are going after them.

In this case, I really appreciate them running Marc as the lead story this afternoon.

This one day, Marotta, Walker and Farley were on barstools in the 'Lanche and talked about........

(I can almost hear Chris saying "Hey Scott, remember that time when the democrats ran away to the motel room in Rockford?  That was so cool!")

LOL - well, I didn't get to watch very good basketball after that one year I overlapped with Marc, but yes did overlap with some fun characters at Marquette. Wonderful memories, and maybe there is a sitcom there.

BTW, thanks for the catches. I did add the following comment to the story on Breitbart so anyone looking back would have correct info, especially on the date of Marc's passing:

A couple of notes from comments on this story link from a Marquette forum.

1. My memory was a little off as Marc Marotta and Chris Farley were both students with me at Marquette BUT they had both graduated by my senior year when Scott Walker started at Marquette. So while i overlapped with all three, Scott was not at MU until after the others. I believe Marc and Chris both started the same year at MU but somehow Marc was more than halfway through Harvard law by the time Chris got through Marquette - a fact played out in Tommy Boy when Chris claims lots of people take 6 years to graduate only to be told they are called "doctors."

2. Due to a little jet lag I incorrectly wrote that Marc passed away Thursday instead if Wednesday.

A new note, Marc's funeral Mass will be Monday afternoon. At Gesu Church on Marquette's campus, the same church my wife and I were married and that holds many memories for so many Marquette alums - this one a sad one initially but one that will help with long-term closure and a wonderful celebration of his life ultimately.
