This was great. A mentoring, caring, engaged , responsible, and transparently truthful man. This is off court john wooden quality stuff--restated for this generation. Thanks so much for the post.

Finally got around to watching.  Damn, he is a passionate man.  I think the parallels to him and Al McGuire are not unfounded.  One was NY the other Texas, but they both have a gritty truthfulness about them and a way of getting to their players in the most emotional and personal ways possible.

I also liked his anecdote about not calling himself Coach when he meets kids.  I remember that being a negative point against him with some critics of him to the West.  I wonder if hearing him speak about it would change their minds.  Some coaches want an air of superiority whereas it seems Buzz realizes his best opportunity to make them better players and people is to become their peer of sorts.  The results and sentiments from the players speak for themselves.
