Fitz has played to his abilities this year, and he's at least taking a lot more shots now than at the beginning of the year (which seems to be our best option except for maybe mcneal when he's wide open of late) I often wonder however how he doesn't get called for a travel when he shoots the ball. It seems like he take a two foot jump once he catches the ball, and then another step forward when he shoots... isn't that 3 steps? I probably don't know what I'm talking about since he hasn't been called for it all year, but it really looks like a travel.

Any thoughts?

I don't see enough of it, so I can't tell you!  ;)

Ive thought it looks like a travel, but I think the little hop he does is right before he catches the ball, so you can say that he didn't have control when he first makes that move.

pure genius stuff by Bill Simmons, remember to read day 2

Murffieus

He does take a step with the ball off the catch & shoot-----but the rules give you that as long as you shoot or pass right after the step or hop!

The other thing is that I would hope he could work on a true catch and shoot over the summer. The 3 step approach allows any defender within 10 feet close to be right on him as he is releasing. Without his high release point he would be blocked every time. Any chance of opening up the lane for the slashers starts with him.

Murffieus

If I coached Fitz, I would use the same approach that TC did with SN----and that is work on the speed of his release and ingrain a shoot first mentality with him from the arc-----notice how quickly Colin Falls gets that trey off----just needs a bit of an opening-----Fitz starts off with a nice height advantage, but needs to quicken his release time!

Nukem2

Murff is right, Fitz does need to have a quicker release.  But, also, he needs a shooter's mentality.  As MU's best outside shooter, he is just far to willing to pass the ball or hold it too long.

Harrison

they Exactly his shot fake dribble drive is horrendous...down 50-48 he catches the ball wide open on the wing and fakes and drives and throws it into a ND players belly.  next time down still thinking about he the last posession puts up a shot that the reeked of no confidence and barely grazed the front end.  ND scores 5 points after those possesions and MU trails by 7, that was all she wrote.

I was going to write the same thing before I read what Harrison wrote.  (that's twice in like 15 mins. Harrison--scary. :D) The pump fake usual works in that he can get by his defender but then can't do anything with it on the inside.  The pump fake, and dribble and one step left or right would work even better.
