Can anyone site an example (anywhere) when a player left before the end of his Freshman season (not year) and went on to a program of equal caliber or better and was successful?

Cant think of any.

By the way, perhaps the Maymons should have downloaded the NCAA's publication prior to making their decision.

They emphasize doing your homework before making a decision.

Bird's close, but doesn't exactly fit the criteria.  He left IU after only a few weeks of classes, well before the season had started.  And he didn't transfer to another school right away, he moved home and got a job.

Don't recall the details here, please provide.

Bird originally went to Indiana University.  He left after 24 days, because he was overwhelmed by the campus and wasn't getting the support he wanted from the coaches.  He moved back to French Lick for a year and got a job.  The following academic year he enrolled at Indiana State and sat out as a transfer student before playing 3 years for them.

For those of us who don't want to read a 33 page PDF... can you give some specifics of what the Maymons overlooked?

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I thought you were joking but that really is number 2.

I think Tim Maymon knew exactly where they were headed - the Final Four

What NBA teams do you think Tim contacted?

My sources within the league offices report the NBA has warned teams to resist the natural urge to start dumping games in order to improve their lottery chances for selecting the once in a generation talent that is Jeronne Maymon

Free agents Lebron and DWade are just consolation prizes this offseason.

Yesterday's fish dinner, bro.

Even in Larry Bird's case, he didn't exactly leave  and transfer - he moved back to his home town and worked for a year, then went to ISU.  So if this is one of the few success stories of leavin gin Freshman year, the Maynons should definitely have done more homewaork on this.  Sounds like it is becoming an increasinly obvious bad idea.

Bird actually worked on a garbage truck. I'm sure that experience gave him some life perspective. JMay would benefit from such an experience
