Per ESPN UGA has offered Anderson a multi year deal @ $2 mil per year. That, IMHO, is what it will take to get someone of his stature to take this gig. Many positives with a great recruiting base, new practice facility and on campus arena but very little tradition and great deal of apathy among fan base. UGA hoops gets very little play on local sports radio in a town where there are two all sports radio stations. They talk football here 365 days per year with an occasional break for some Braves talk if the Braves are competitive.

If UGA lands Anderson, it'll be interesting to see whether he can pull Favors from GT.

I think Favors has signed is LOI.  Aside from that the word is that Favors is pretty much a one and done which has been a problem for Tech.  Hewitt can recruit but it's hard to build continuity when you keep seeing players leave after a year (Bosh, Crittendon, Young all come to mind as recent examples).

I would be more concerned that it would rule out one of our 2010 targets Trae Golden.

Money aside, I don't see a compelling reason why one would leave Mizzou to go to UGA.

I don't know what he makes now, so if it's a significant raise that Mizzou isn't willing to come close to that's a different story.

Atlanta Warrior

Apparently, if reports are to be believed, money is a compelling factor.  UGA is offering $2 million per and apparently (again according to ESPN) Mizzou will not be able to match that number.

And having been to both places, I would live in Athens, GA long before I would live in Columbia, MO.

Haven't been to Columbia but Athens is a great town.  You get all the benefits of a "college town" with the additonal benefit of being in close proximity to Atlanta where you have access to world class entertainment and culture.

Sorry, I meant compelling basketball reason or career-advancement reason.  I do forget to factor in the non-basketball reasons most of the time.

In terms of basketball though, this is a step sideways at best... probably a slight step down.

Seeing potential deals like this is scary.  This would clearly be a lateral move.  What worries me is if these lateral moves start to happen, when does it end?  The coaching carousel would be out of control each year.  And, it seems to me, that change would favor the big institutions as they can recruit even with all of the turmoil.

That is really what worries me about MU.  Face it...we are an A10 type school with a strong enough tradition and history of success to be in the BE.  Great!!!  But what happens 5 or 10 years from now?

Anderson was quoted over and over in an interview on SNToday.com last week saying that "we are just getting started at Mizzou".  Moving on to UGA would seem awfully hypocrtical at this point.  Will prrobably help Mike get more $$ at Mizzou.

Exactly what I've been thinking with Anderson.  He runs a "system" - and it takes a couple years to get the pieces in place for that system.  He'd be starting all over again at UGA.
