Title: [Cracked Sidewalks] Selection Committee Confirms Marquette's Seeding
Post by: brewcity77 on February 12, 2019, 05:23:49 AM
Since our first S-Curve on Christmas Day, we've had Marquette as a 3-seed. Despite the St. John's loss, the Selection Committee affirmed that Saturday when they revealed their early Top-16 with Marquette seeded 12th overall on the 3-line.

So even after beating nova you have MU as the last 3 seed like the committee did?

But MU’s last 3 seed was after the SJU loss? They didn’t move up?

Honest question.
Why should we move up?  We beat a lower ranked team, that we were favored to beat, at home.  Makes sense that the W/L of teams around us insulated us from a drop after the SJ loss, but not enough room to move up.

I think it's partly that, and partly a function of how teams ahead of us did. When you're a 3-seed (even the last one), there aren't many teams ahead of you. Moving up typically means that you need to win, plus have a team or two ahead of you lose a game they should have won (or at least have a really unimpressive performance in a win).

From this point on, I'd be surprised to see MU move up much absent some head-scratching losses by the other 2 or 3 seeds.

I reevaluated most of the bracket from scratch, so moving up and down wasn't as straight forward as it sometimes is. Ahead of us, Kansas (W v Ok St, W @ TCU), Purdue (W v Neb), and Houston (W v Cincy) didn't do anything to warrant moving down. Once you get to the top seed lines there's a lot less room to move up.

I would say it’s also the addition of a Q1 win to the resume.

Kansas & Houston added Q1 wins as well. Purdue didn't play, so there's no real reason they should drop (aside from the "they were overrated in the first place" argument).
