Really excited about him and Owens.
I don't like his perfect FT shooting in that game. He needs to cool off from the line before he hits MKE.
Shaka was not kidding when he called Parham "a scoring savant". Looks like he can make foul shots as well.

I am torn between giddiness and my standard warning of the need to be patient with freshmen.

Very true about the FTs Goose. Don't show up the veterans, kid.
He even has a major road in Richmond named after him. Maybe an opportunity for some NIL.
OK, enough screwing around. I can hardly wait to see him play for Marquette.

They will definitely give some minutes next year, but watching the extended highlights that were shared yesterday, Shaka was understating it when he said they were further along offensively. Both looked pretty bad defensively. Could've been that they were playing a lower level team and weren't fully locked in, but they'll need to get after it defensively to get major minutes next year. Hope they get to campus early and take some notes from Stevie early and often.

Owens has a better passing handle. He's a strong ballhandler and passer. He is gonna be a three level threat.
And I believe I stated it before, but looks like Parham is supposed to be a Oso/Gold evolution in a blender (couldn't resist the blender joke).

Parham, in particular, did a lot of standing around on defense. Being surrounded by higher-level coaching and motivated defensive players at Marquette should help him a great deal - as it did with Kam and, even more, Joplin.
I've become almost desensitized to watching high school prospects play defense.......most of them just don't play nearly as hard as they will be required to play in college.......especially bigger guys.
Shaka has a great track record of coaching them up......but it won't happen overnight.

Interesting, most projections I've seen have Owens as the real gem of this group, but tough to deny the numbers Parham's been putting up lately.
Their development on defense will determine their playing time
OK, I have no bead on the recruiting stuff....I'll just cheer for whoever walks out on the court first game.
But I clicked on that link and looked him up. 6'8" 205 hits the three and free-throws indicates a real eye, not just a gunner.
No idea about character or defense....but Shaka helps all of 'em with both. (I will say he's got a pleasent look on that link).
I didnt feel too well about OMax going....but we recovered. So here's to this year and to next!
Character is a core value for Shaka......if he isn't convinced that you already have it ...he won't recruit you.
I don't think we've signed a guy with character issues since Buzz left.
At least not that I recall.

Have you noticed how often Kam falls down, Lenny? After just about every shot - including most of his 3s. Glad I'm not playing a Kam Falls drinking game!

Yeah, he falls a lot, but usually after a shot when he comes down off balanced or on a drive when he's bumped. Nobody can top OMax, though.

No no no. Coach is building a four year growth/chemistry culture.
Looks like Shaka got a couple good ones. I too am optimistic they contribute right away and add real depth to the bench next year. But patience is a virtue.
Kam if he stays and Ben Gold will be the stars next year. Ben will be like Mamu was for Seton Hall. The rest of the team will simply be better than SH and a contender again.

I do not see Gold as a star next year, you have Jop and Kam scoring with Mitchell improving as well. I can see Gold maybe averaging 10, maybe less if Parham or Hamilton have any game.
Plus Owens looks like somebody who could average 6-8 points a game, add the depth and you have more players then this year
I want to lose a guy to the NBA every year. If that happens, Shaka has done his job getting the guys ready.

don't all HS players being recruited by high D1 look good? How many are impactful out of the gate in year one at this next level? Our last stud freshman was who, Ellenson? Maybe Markus? Using UConn as the benchmark, imo we need one of these two, and Hamilton, to ball.

UConn has precisely one freshman contributing this season, Stephon Castle, a 5-star kid who is rated pretty high on NBA mock drafts. He's been good but hardly Carmelo Anthony (or even Henry Ellenson) good.
It would be nice if Shaka could bring in a kid who could contribute that much, but it's not easy. Hopefully Parham and Owens will be that. If not, we have two freshmen this year who have shown promise and who will be relied upon more as sophomores next year.

my point in using UConn as the benchmark is that Hurley is cookin'. He's replaced Jay Wright as the big dog. With freshmen it's always a roll of the dice, of course. One of them or both might be great next season. But to maintain our place as a top 3 conference team, and unless a stud transfer comes on board (should a scholarship open up) imo we need some impact action from a newbie.
