We knew we were gonna be playing in Maui it seems like 3 years ago, but I don't remember seeing anything about which Thanksgiving event we'll be playing in next year.
Anybody have any info?
A private tourney where the best schools pick and who gets to play.
Thee Festivus for the Best of Us holiday tourney.
I was wondering this too. Does anyone know?

It's a little weird. Back in 2020, we already knew exactly which events the team would play in for the next 3 years. Now? Bupkis.
It'd be nice to know but the longer they wait, the better fields they can put together. For example, inviting Georgetown to Maui in 2025 right now is not worth the risk. I do hope MU gets down to Atlantis one of these years. Not sure what the deal is with that one.
Also, is there still a limit to how many years in a row a team can be in an MTE?
Atlantis would be cool. I'm also kinda diggin' the events they've put together in Vegas and Palm Springs. One of those might be nice. Plus, you'd think we'd eventually get invited to the Portland thing, being a Jordan school with a ranked program.
When's the next PK event?

Yes. Not more than once in any four-year period. [17.4.5.1.1(c)]

Yes, mutiple-team event. "Qualifying Regular-Season Multiple-Team Event" ("QRSMTE") is further defined and is what we're talking about here

Thanks. I made the correction.
Won't be Orlando, Baha Mar or Battle 4. Could be interesting when put together.

Curious if the conference realignment threw everything off and they will eventually get around now to figuring it out.
Did Feast week seem a little underwelming this year? Is it the no PK thing?
Maui was best ever but everything else felt watered down and I couldn't figure out what the 3rd best tourney was.

Maui hogged many of the good teams with 5 of the current top 8 in Kenpom, which watered down the rest.

That was seriously nuts, has any other holiday tourney been nearly as stacked??
A lot of schools (such as Duke and Kentucky this year) run their own. Others just partner with a couple of additional schools (Michigan State and Arizona partnered with a couple low majors.) So I wouldn't expect that Marquette will be travelling somewhere every year.

This might have played a factor but I think it has more to do with the fact Marquette was in the field. Last year, we had a vested interest in Ft Myers and could still watch major tourneys like Maui. This year you only needed to watch Maui and Ft Myers wasn't worth watching with Wisconsin in the mix.

I remember when MU ran their own. Pepsi Blue and Gold Classic. Was always with 3 other meh teams, expectation was the MU would always win the whole thing. Was pretty lame.

There was a point when the Classic was solid.
Wisconsin played in it every year and MU would usually secire a decent 3rd team at least. This was back when scheduling was more horse trading and less made for TV.

Last year had the Phil Knight Invitational and Phil Knight Legacy (2 separate tournaments). Both of those had loaded fields. UConn, Bama, UNC, Iowa State, Michigan State in the former and Purdue, Duke, Gonzaga, and Xavier in the latter.
Last year, Maui was still pretty good but had probably the 3rd best field. Arizona, Creighton, San Diego State, and Arkansas.
Plus, Battle 4 Atlantis has Kansas vs Tennessee in the final.
This year was heavily slanted to Maui. A big dropoff to the rest of the tournaments.
Sure will be interesting to hear which event we'll play in next year. Yep, sure will!

Yeah that may have been the case a while ago but when I was at MU they were playing the likes of Winthrop, IUPUI and Rice.
Get ready for the Maui Jim Mauiwaukee Jam! It's just the teams from the Maui Invitational 2023, but this time in the Fiserv.
I would guess that a Marquette sponsored MTE would two or three other P6 programs. Or maybe two mid-majors and one additional power program.

Looking at the Duke and Arizona MTEs, I'm not so sure. I doubt there are many P6 programs that want to sign up for an MTE that gives them true road games, unless you create one that rotates between a few programs.

Agree. I'm skeptical of how good a Fiserv MTE would look. I'd rather us play in another good neutral-court event.
What if this is the Chicagoland Classic we've been dreaming about for ages: Illinois, Marquette, Notre Dame and one other (dream is Kentucky) play at the UC. Throw in a few local mid-majors (Loyola, Bradley, Valpo, Eastern Illinois) in a B bracket
DePaul would be in that B bracket.
So for 2024, Marquette hosts Wisconsin. They will play a road Big 12 game. And it sounds like they will come up with some home grown 4 team tournament.
And sounds like Atlantis in either 2025 or 2026.

I'd love to see an annual Jesuit Classic with 4 schools from among this list (field and hosts rotate each year):
MU
Creighton
Georgetown
Xavier
Gonzaga
SLU
BC
Holy Cross
Loyola Chicago
Loyola Marymount
Fordham
Fairfield
Canisius
St. Joes
Santa Clara
San Francisco
Detroit Mercy
Obviously you can't have schools from the same conference but a potential field could be one year
MU
Gonzaga
Loyola Chicago
Holy Cross
Another year
Creighton
BC
SLU
Santa Clara
Xavier
St. Joes
Loyola Marymount
Detroit Mercy
etc

Expect another two high-profile games, one being a home-and-home. Like you, I expect Atlantis in 2025 or 2026, Marquette to push to be in the PK90 in 2027, and back in Maui in 2028.
