If it's a high ankle sprain, he'd be out for Illinois and maui, at the very least

There's really nothing to report when you think about it, it's too early.

It's clearly a bad roll of the ankle, it'll balloon, it'll recess.

So, check back Tuesday afternoon before tip and my guess is he will be out at Illinois and probably back for Maui unless it's a bad high ankle sprain.

Payback for Kofi missing the game in Milwaukee!

That's a fair trade.

Hopefully just Illinois, but I'm excited to see what Sean can do running the show with Oso

My sister's cousin goes to Marquette. Last night her roommate was out with one of Tyler's boys who said that as Father Lawrence was giving Tyler his final communion, Tyler lept up out of bed, said unnatural carnal knowledge 'em and went out to have some miller lites.

Shaka's full quote (from Steele's article):

"He stepped on someone's foot. The status update from him is 'I'll be fine.' But he did turn his ankle. Right away, he subbed himself out. We'll see how it responds. He'll get treatment. Knowing Tyler, he's a guy that he'll find a way to be on the floor when he needs to be on the floor. But we'll see how his ankle responds over the next couple days."
Title: Re: Tyler Kolek
Post by: GoldenEagles03 on November 11, 2023, 10:11:37 AM
Ankles are just a wait and see. All depends on the level of turn and depth of swelling. Each person responds differently. Could be 8 weeks, could be back and ready by Tuesday. Whatever it is, Sean Jones and Chase Ross have showed that this team will be a tough out whatever happens with Kolek.  Hopefully he can play Tuesday, but definitely hope this doesn't affect his availability in Hawaii.

As someone who has no medical background but rolled countless ankles, my guess is the "break glass in case of emergency" player Tuesday to push for a full 100% for Maui.

NCAA tournament committee takes into account injured players when they review teams season resume .

A loss to Illinois , with Kolek out , may possibly be given less weight than a lose to Illinois with the team at full strength

In either event, I hope TyKo makes a recovery and we scalp the Illini.

I mean he went down to the ground right in front of us, he was in some serious discomfort. Hopefully the fact that bball players tape their ankles maybe gets him back this coming week, otherwise it might be a couple weeks before he's "full" strength.

I 98% want him to play and 2% want to see how they fare without him. It is a long season and getting a glimpse into the future intrigues me a bit. I hope TK is back next year, but nothing is forever. I think MU wins by 6+ either way.

If TyKo doesn't play , The Chase Ross / Terrance Shannon matchup will be a good one for Chase growth as a player.

I agree with Herman-- And the people down at ******** Bar think I'm a doctor so they ask me questions all the time about aches and pains. Some of the coaches, some of training staff, gamblers trying to navigate the spread called me today. I surely don't mind because I love giving advise. Oh, I'm sometimes wrong, but never in doubt. I think it's the gout, without a doubt. I got a call from Tyler this afternoon, and surprisingly, he was worried about me. He said, What's going on with you? I hear you been walking funny. Is that a limp I see?" No, it's a gimp. I'm gimpy. I'm ready to go. And he said, "Me too."

Meanwhile back at the ******* Bar. The game will be on in an hour.  Hey, buy me another beer and a shot and I'll tell you about your back pain. And when I think it will go away. Soon I hope. I'm here in a wheelchair, so I need you to push me home after the game.  Golden Eagles by 3.

You wouldn't believe where I've been
The cities and towns I've been in
From Boston to Denver, and every town in between
The people, they all look the same (yes, the same)
Oh, only the names have been changed (just the names)
But now that I'm home again
I'll tell you what I believe
It's a miracle (miracle)
A true, blue spectacle, a miracle come true (oh-oh-oh-oh)
We're together, baby, I was goin' crazy
'Til the miracle came through (oh-oh-oh-oh)
Now you're here and my arms are around you
And, baby, there'll be dancin' in the street
For the miracle (miracle)
A true, blue spectacle, the miracle is you (hoo)
(Ho-ho-ho, hoo)
I never knew you looked so good
Oh, I never knew anyone could
I must have been crazy to ever have gone away (almost forgot you, babe)
I almost forgot what it's like (every night)
Oh, holdin' you near me at night (every night)
But now that I'm home again, you know that I'm home to stay
'Cause it's a miracle (miracle)
A true, blue spectacle, a miracle come true (oh-oh-oh-oh)
We're together, baby, I was goin' crazy
'Til the miracle came through (oh-oh-oh-oh)
Now you're here and I'm feelin' so good
And, baby, there'll be dancin' in the street
For the miracle (miracle)
A true, blue spectacle, the miracle is you (hoo)
(Ho-ho-ho, hoo)
Now you're here and my arms are around you
And, baby, there'll be dancin' in the street
Ha, there's gonna be dancin' in the street
There's gonna be dancin' in the street
For a miracle
A true, blue spectacle, the miracle is you (hoo)
(The miracle is you, hoo)
Hey, the miracle is you
(The miracle is you, hoo)
Whoa, the miracle is you
(The miracle is)
(Hoo)

Mr Cain Wow" I loved that. I can almost hear the music, but it's loud in here.  I believe it will all come down to hitting free throws. Visualize the distance and the rim. Deep breath. Exhale. Relax. Release and arc. Repetition. And there's always Jeff Hornacek's forehead swipe. That worked for him.

2nd half adjustment- imo  the team is quick enough to get back in transition even if they make a better effort to rebound missed shots. Push butt. Don't worry about fouls. Chase Ross will push Shannon and Kam will hit a bunch of threes.  Give me one more beer, if it's no trouble.

Serious kudos to the medical and/or training staff. If one didn't know Kolek had sprained his ankle a few days earlier, one never could have told watching the game.

He moved completely free-and-easy on offense, regularly got wherever he wanted, had good push-off when he posted up, and maintained his assignments on defense, too.

It was pretty amazing to watch.

100% agree - best part is, 6 days rest until Maui. That was a physical game last night, and hopefully Oso is OK as well.

For sure.

Tyler was the best player on that court by a wide margin last night.
He was amazing to watch, and my U of I friends mentioned that they felt lucky to get to watch him play despite the loss.

He moves so well, he sees so well, he controls so well.
He passes effortlessly and is scoring with more and more ease.
On the other end he rarely seems overmatched or out of position, he battles.

One interesting note was that we noticed on several timeout huddles he wasn't even inside the huddle or didn't seem to be paying attention.
I joked that it's because he knows the game plan better than Shaka.
Shaka didn't seem to care, I think he realized he was in the zone
