Sure hope both teams play hard and have fun tonight.  What an awesome experience for these student athletes.  Between receiving world class educations and an opportunity like this, it's quite clear they're all winners

I expect a dogfight. Xavier will be physical. The bigs and the guards. Kolek will get more help tonight. He will have to make free throws at the end but he won't have to play hero ball.  But he's capable and determined. He is special and this is a good team.  And they will win tonight.

When former athletes are saying (on fox flagship) that if they were a HS player they would go to MU because Shaka is such an amazing human being...is pretty frickin' great.

"If I were an elite high school player right now in America, I would want to come Marquette. Not just because of the program, but because of Shaka Smart."

"I agree with, Casey. And I think the way we feel we would play for him is that he genuinely cares about these young men, not just about basketball players, but as young men. That to me says it all about Shaka Smart."

"One of the big takeaways to all of us from this tournament is what a good human being Shaka Smart is."

Save that clip! And recruit with it!

Omax isn't leaving. He needs another year before he becomes Dennis Rodman without the pink hair. It will be fun to see him next year. More confidence. He knows he can drive into the lane. He's big enough.  He's hesitant and I understand that--- there's 2 or 3 better players on the team.  He understands team bb and he gives so much effort on defense. Don't let Xavier come back after the big lead. Effort is good still. Shots aren't falling. Play hard and get to the half.  But don't panic my friends. This is our day.

Being up 15 regardless of how you got there is all that matters.

If you're up 30 and give up a 15-0 run, you're up 15.

If you're tied and go on a 15-0 run, you're up 15.

The only difference is your mindset.  Marquette should feel good about that half.  Keep that same energy. 20 minutes.

Oso time in second half, no points but no fouls. Nunge is gassed.

We rotated a lot of players in the first half - let's wear them down in the second.

Agree did not close out half well.  Maybe they were going to come back to earth some, but shot selection and ball movement was not good last 5-6 minutes.

Defense was fabulous really all 20 minutes.

I read many good comments here. MU is coming back down to earth here at the end of the half. Xavier is a good team. mu is subbing a lot. Thank goodness those players have played decent minutes all year. I do think Xavier will get too tired to turn this around. OSO time!! Play the game that got you here. Lay up or three. Don't forget effort on defense.  Enjoy the second half.

Oso, Omax, Kam, Joplin, no fouls
Kolek one foul
Mitchell 3 fouls

No need to worry about sitting guys, except Stevie.  Need him and Ross to keep it up on Boum.  Boum with one point and has two fouls.  Don't want that guy going off.

Early this year it was great watching Marquette's offense work its magic. That run when we were momentarily the #1 team in the country in offensive efficiency was awesome.

That said, this defensive intensity and grittiness is equally appreciable. I can't tell you how many texts I've received from friends (from other schools) that are marveling at Marquette's intensity and gritty defense.

It's awesome to watch. This team has FF potential. And, as I said when the first NCAA 16 reveal was made, I'm confident they'll be a 2 seed if they win this.

Thank goodness we'll get the automatic bid.  Sunday selection shows are too nerve wracking when you don't know if your team will be called

I agree without the automatic, it would be nerve racking!

Side note here. Texas blasts Kansas by 20. They win B12 and guarantee a two seed.

Last seven minutes, MU has one basket. That's second major scoring drought, but 21 point lead at six minute mark was the key. Don't believe any team in history has lost a lead like that.

I really don't think Kansas deserves a 1 seed, five losses by double digits.  I don't care how many Quad 1 wins they have, it shows they lay eggs too frequently to be a 1 seed.

I could not happier that you shed those tears last night. We have PM'd quite a bit the past two seasons and your excitement for the program is real. I did not need much encouragement to believe in Shaka, but you definitely were one of the guys that got me more jacked up.

You are a good man and sorry about the loss your Mom. I miss mine everyday. Cheers to a big cry in 22 days!!

The defensive job both Stevie Mitchell and Omax Prosper did on Saturday reminded me of another MU game many years ago. I know of at least one participant on this board who will remember the game very well.

In the winter of 1970, ND came to Milwaukee with a very good team led by a great player named Austin Carr.  I don't remember the specifics, but Carr was a really good offensive player and the ND offense revolved around him. Al had this skinny white guy guarding Carr (what was that guy's name?), and he did a fantastic job. MU got off to a great start, the skinny white guy held Carr to just a handful of points in the first half, and MU went into the locker room with a good lead. ND got untracked a bit in the second half, but it was too little too late and MU got a really nice win. It was Austin Carr's lowest scoring game of the season. (Wish I could remember the name of that guy guarding him.)

It's fun to watch great defensive efforts like that one from 1970 - and like the defense played Saturday night.

I believe that Austin Carr led the country in scoring that season, though not certain about that. But, on that particular night, Brell was like a wild man in the way he hounded Carr all over the floor.  It was really very similar to the way Mitchell hounded Boum on Saturday.

It is probably amazing to players that someone like me can, 50+ years later, recall one game and one player. I don't remember a single other thing about that game against ND except Brell's defensive work.  He worked so hard and so passionately that game that it somehow just stuck in my head. And, talking to my wife yesterday about Saturday's game and the great defense, I found myself suddenly telling her about Gary Brell and the ND game long ago. The memory just came back out of nowhere.

The guys on this team do not realize the memories they are creating for fans of all ages.
