Good luck, God bless, and thank you.
We should really start a transfer portal thread to keep up with these.

I think a 5 year player deserves his own post no?
Greg was a great player during the 2019-20 season.
Good luck, Greg. Thanks for what you gave us.

Don't worry, I am sure we will be tracking Greg three pointer by three pointer next season. I have no doubt he will get a lot of attention from Scoop.

You're sticking by your thesis that Greg (38.6%) is "not a three point shooter," but Kam (39.2%) is "a three point shooter?"

I hope in the future our three-point specialist makes more than seven three pointers in the last twelve games of the year.

We also don't survive the "Gauntlet" without Greg's shooting in those games (and would not have subsequently qualified for the NCAA tourney.

I agree Greg was a big part of the good run. Would say he was a very big part of a couple of the wins.

I'm glad he gets another year after the Covid disruption. I wonder if he plays down a level to blow the roof off a place? Or take on a championship contender with a bunch of 1 and dones to bring some seniority?
AZ Star had a full page article about the effect of NIL on NCAA sports. Huge! I think UAZ lost its entire firsrt team, as did//will Duke. Lou Saban has a fairly long analysis.

Why not say so in the first place and not be so snarky? Greg has represented MU well.
Good luck, Greg!
Thank you Greg! Loved your enthusiasm for the game. Especially loved the charge call you drew to win the Eastern Illinois game right after the Maui invitational. Could have been a major letdown losing that game. Just one of numerous good plays throughout your years at MU. Good luck with everything in your future.
My favorite Greg moment came at the absolute zenith of the Wojo era, Feb 23 2019, where we beat Providence comfortably in Providence to move to 23-4 (12-2). (We would astoundingly only win one more game after that) I happened to score some goods seats in the aftermarket about 6-8 rows back behind our bench, and as Providence fans were filing out late in the game, Greg (in street clothes as he was injured) was saying to them in the sweetest voice imaginable "Hey, where you going? C'mon, don't give up...they could come back."
Seemed like a good-natured, fun kid, and he had his moments as a player for us. Wish him the best wherever he winds up next year and in the future.
I hope Greg lands on his feet

You can definitely make good money - tough lifestyle but it pays the bills. Lower leagues still pay 30-50k all expenses included. Not bad to play in high school gyms half the time.
Interesting what some people think is good money.
Yeah there is a reason that a lot of guys similar to Greg just play a couple of years in the European basketball backwaters before moving on with their lives. The money is fine, but you aren't really building a career. They scratch the itch and move on to something more lucrative.
Just curious, while it appears that most on here think Greg is a great guy and is well liked, is anyone disappointed he is likely not going to be a member of the MU basketball team next year?

I will. In the same sense I get whenever a player graduates. At some point next season, I will wish Greg was still around. Just lime the times this past season when Kur and Osa were getting manhandled that I missed Theo.
Alas. The circle of life.
Theo filled a role that wasn't replicated. I think whatever role Greg played is going to be easily replicated.

Especially defensively. Greg's biggest role this past year we're to provide senior leadership as well as a link to MU's past. He did well in both of those roles.
I see too many players of Greg's caliber on the roster and not enough players of Justin's caliber going into next season. Hoping for a couple portal additions and a return for Justin.
IDK. Having to serve an in-season suspension and having multiple questions asked about how "all in" he actually was kind of clouds my view about what kind of leadership he was providing.

Of the returning guys, who is a comp with Greg? I agree on Justin but struggling to see who the players of Greg's caliber are on the current roster.

Not in terms of play style, just in terms of impact on winning basketball games. I think almost everyone on the roster was roughly on Greg's level outside of Morsell and Justin last year. There will be a couple guys who improve in the offseason and with more opportunity, but we need an upgrade in talent.
I think Marquette would have been better served with more Mitchell and less Elliott as the season went on. I think his role could have been easily filled even last year. I have no concerns about filling what was *at best* a replacement level player on both sides.
Wades
We agree we need an upgrade in talent, but I am not seeing the returning guys being similar in talent level with Greg. I think all three returning guards were much better than Greg.

Absolutely not. Marquette needs to burn the Wojo era to the ground and salt the earth, and that starts with his guys no longer being on the roster.

I hope greg can go back to Michigan and either play a key role for Michigan or MSU or have a leading role for Detroit or another small D1 school while also making some NLI money due to being "home". He'd be a good 6th-7th man playing 15-20 mins on a contender if he stays healthy.
Good luck to him.

Anything is possible, but at least I can see the role that Theo played last year. They didn't really have a decent option to back up Mark Williams, and Theo seemed to understand what that role would be and the expectations. He is strong, a decent athlete and in good health. Obviously with his limitations. And of course there was the Coach K / Wojo relationship - I doubt this happens without that connection.
Michigan State has no shortage of guards. And I have no idea what value outside of "senior leadership" he would bring. And as far as I know, Izzo doesn't have much more than a passing relationship with either Wojo or Shaka.
But as I said, anything is possible.

Maybe not specifically Michigan State, but the point is Greg could latch on with a upper tier program if he's willing to go there and play in a reserve role, as was the case with Theo. But he may also want to go somewhere he'd be more featured, like Koby and Jamal, and that would lead him to a lower level.
As for the K/Wojo connection, that may have landed Theo on Duke's radar, but it's why he ended up there. K wasn't putting guys in the rotation for his final year coaching as a favor to a former assistant.

A program on the rise with a great coach in Forbes, a very good program under Medved, a gorgeous campus under a former BE head coach...and then two programs with first time HCs. If thats indeed his interest list, I'd be quite surprised if he chose one of the latter pair.
