3-2 NHU early
May need to wear a hard hat with all the bricks flying
One and done is the name of the game so far
just no offense being run so far

Shaka didn't prioritize shooting when bringing in players, that's for sure.
Missing is one thing, but just heaving the ball up from 3 and having it thump off the backboard hoping it banks in, lol.
No rebounding. Wow.
Quote from: Daniel on November 12, 2021, 07:40:19 PM
No rebounding. Wow.
New Hampshire has 9 boards to MUBB 4 and 4 offensive boards. Woof
So Lewis is called a Freshman on the graphic. I'm not sure if that makes it more or less confusing due to the extra year for everyone
<sigh>. Brian Butch is pretty good.
At least Oso can board
uh oh emarion
MU's talent level looks like middle-of-the-pack mid-major.
There's just nothing there.
Now an airballed 3 when no defender was within 10 feet. Yikes.
Quote from: Fluffy Blue Monster on November 12, 2021, 07:45:01 PM

He referred to a Marquette possession that lasted 4.5 seconds and resulted in a missed shot a "great possession". That was shorter than every single offensive possession he participated in during his college career.
why is this team jacking so many 3's........
looking like last year all over again
If we don't fix this rebounding we ain't winning tonight
idk if lewis is as good as some think

it is bad. our bigs seem so uncoordinated. prosper seems to move in slow motion
We are playing out of control on both ends of court. No discipline in executing offense and where is defense? Rebounding a major issue. Wow. Out of position no nose for the ball.

I was going to reply with the coach carter no offense "what did we learn in practice; run!" But couldn't find a video.
Now I'm sad.
Through 8 minutes, MUBB is 2-9 from the field and 0-6 from 3. They've been out rebounded 14-6, with New Hampshire getting 7 offensive boards!
The first 8 minutes was awful basketball
Hard to say which is more inept, these officials or our 3-pt. Shooting.

This team does not have any shooter.
I love when the worst positioned ref makes the call
I complimented Kolek but it looks like it was just the poor competition. Now he's up against an average team and looks marginal
Joplin breaks the seal
Getting a tough whistle. The Kolek charge certainly wasn't that. They got an offensive rebound that the guy clearly was on the baseline with the ref staring directly at it and didn't get called, resulting in a layup. Seems like they're letting a lot of physicality go on at the rim.
#3 looks like the chubby kid in a high school sports movie where you think, "does the movie maker really think we are going to believe this kid is athletic?"
MU first half team total under wagers are going to be a recurring theme this season.
36.5 tonight.
College refs suck so much. Makes the game almost unwatchable.
Marquette wins that 4 minutes, 8-4, tied at 16 heading to the under 8.
Shooting still miserable, NHU didn't get any o-rebounds in that stretch and had a few turnovers.
College refs were college refs
You'd think MU would accidentally hit a 3 every once in a while

A half court defense, too
Kolek had a wide open 3 from the top of the key and barely hit the very left side of the rim.
Get rid of the charge in basketball please.
When was the last time MU had a less talented team than this?
That 4 minute stretch goes to NHU, 8-3. Pretty awful offense and half court defense from Marquette, no sugar coating it
For someone who worked on shooting the 3 all off-season, Justin sure looks hesitant

Plenty of room for improvement for this year's squad. Start by outplaying NH consistently in the 2nd half.
Feels like they're down 10 but are really up 5, so that's a good sign.

Played incredibly well over the final 4 minutes. Not sure how they're up 5 at the break but we'll take it.
Need to bottle that stretch somehow
Team rallied and is up 5 at half. Should get out of the blocks strong to start the second half.
Good end to the half. Love Shaka.
At least we turned it around a bit. Maybe the floodgates open in the 2nd half. I hate to see scoring droughts though.....maybe we launch from downtown too much?

3 point shots off the dribble early in the shot clock by not great shooters - not a great concept.
Halftime stats:
Out boarded 22-18 but cleaned up the offensive boards New Hampshire got in the first 8 minutes. Think they had 7 early.
3 for 16 from 3, 11 of 14 at the stripe versus New Hampshire who is 6 of 13.
Lewis leads the way with 8 and Oso has 8 boards
Morsell is a winner. Need him to play like a first team all big east player this year. Also, loved Oso's effort.

Ty all. Overall take on New Hampshire?
If we can't outrebound teams like Edwardsville and UNH, this could be a long, cold winter.

Interested to see if we start shooting better when the NBA line is gone. Coaches say it doesnt matter but our guys are clearly spotting up on that line instead of the college one.

Don't like these subs hete. Dang
Shaka tried to buy the group that was on a run an extra minute of rest time going into the TV timeout. Ended up giving up a run, but Osa with the play of the night hitting the floor to extend a possession, leading to a 3 for Morsell.
More Oso, please.
Bold prediction: Morsell 1st Team All Big East.

So, we know our 1-2 punch is DM and JLew. I think our Freshmen will have some ups and downs but the potential is there. Kolek hasn't shot well but should be alright. My concern is the frontcourt minus Lewis. Who do we go with, should we play 3 guards, maybe Oso should get more time, etc, etc. I understand it's two games but how would you use O-Max and Kuath? It didn't sound like they defended or rebounded all that well tonight. In other words if you were in charge what would be your super 7 rotation?

Oso has played pretty well
Oso has been a pleasant surprise. He's shown a good nose for the ball and being in the right position/IQ, excellent motor and athleticism.
For 2 games that won't instill great confidence in the fan base there have been 3.5 very pleasant surprises individually in the first two games imo
1- Darryls offensive ability and shooting effectiveness (spoiler alert very slim chance he's that pure from 3 all season)
2- Oso
3- Stevie Mitchell
.5- Tyler Kolek and his vision/passing ability. That gets a half because it was great and then not so good.
On the flip side there have been several not so pleasant surprises, which there always are going into a season with so many unknowns.
I won't list those because it's early in the season, plenty of time to change the narrative
As a squad the biggest thing that jumps out to me is that in Nevada smiths offense, which stresses metrics and values 3P attempts and layups/dunks we sure as heck haven't had a lot of dunks and made 3s. It's an interesting flex to try to install a heavy 3P shooting offense when you have a squad filled with kids that can't really shoot the 3 well but respect the process aina?
26/27 is the number of note
26-27% from 3 the first two games and 26-27 3P attempts in each of those two games.
Seems like that's going to be the key number to the season. If MU can shoot 32-35% from 3 they should be able to score in the 70s or better and win a decent amount of games if the defense holds up.
If they keep shooting 26-27% from 3 they will lose a lot of games
Second number of note is FT attempts- both games they had nearly 30 FT attempts which seems like a ton. That's great but I would imagine non sustainable as the competition gets better and cleaner, which is where the extra 3s come in to maintain the scoring.
I have no clue how many FT attempts per game MU averaged in the previous era, but I'd love a scooper to fill me in
