Great start to the season! ;)
The #MUBB court was damaged and the @Bucks are rectifying the situation. Unfortunately, the new court isn't expected to be ready until late November, so MU will play on the Bucks alternate court at @FiservForum until then.
Now we can't even give Shaka a home court advantage!?!
The court is figuratively in a boot.
This is a bad omen
Throw some ivermectin on it.

Woj sabotaged the court on his way out.
Now is the time for MU to bring back the old MECCA court!!

Retire0 had this idea so I watched a video about the remade MECCA court the Bucks played on a few years ago. At the end of the video they said part of the agreement with Robert Indiana was that it be for one game only and sanded off afterwards.

Back when Kyrie was contemplating sitting out the game because when they went through the walkthrough "you could tell it was old" and he was worried about it causing an injury. It was a new court...
I suppose it's possible the alternate Bucks court we are playing on is the repurposed MECCA court from a few years ago.

Maybe they could insert "MARQUETTE" on the baseline, and leave it up all season? Great PR/advertising for the university. Can't buy that kind of name recognition!

No deal on the Mecca floor. MU BBall Instagram account just posted videos of some players walking into Fiserv, and it's the same ol' court we saw the other night.
How in hell do you "break" a basketball court while it's in storage over the off-season, to the extent that it takes this long to fix/replace.
My only guess would be mold or broken pipes and water damage. Or fire damage.

Not sure if this has been posted already but word is that the Marquette court was set to be refinished over the summer and when it was transported the ratchet straps were pulled too tight. When the court was reasssembled it was all "wavy" and essentially ruined and had to be replaced. Don't know any details about who was at fault or had to foot the bill for the new court.

That sounds like a huge rookie mistake. Usually you put something on top of the panels and then ratchet down, so you don't squeeze the panels. Even if they didn't do it, it wouldn't damage all of the panels. Just the top ones.
I had to load and transport the old Denver Nuggets hardwood flooring I bought from Detroit to Illinois so it could be refinished and then to my facility and this story sounds fishy or those involved were complete idiots.

I heard from a very reputable source, that when the Bucks "stored" the floor, it was in a non-climate controlled area and put directly on concrete. The wood absorbed the moisture from the concrete. I have a background in manufacturing wooden products and this, by far, is the most logical answer. Concrete releases moisture many years after it is poured and kiln dried wood absorbs it like a sponge.

They do the "MU" because they don't want to rev up the old "Warrior" controversy again. But honestly by the time they do an athletics rebrand, it will be more than time to move on.
And my guess is that anytime they do a rebrand, they won't be using in-house graphic design on that. D3 schools don't even do that these days.

Wow! So what's next? A Disney version of a golden eagle? Sheesh! Oh wait! We already have that. Our mascot.
I hope you are right about going outside of in-house graphic designers. It is simply good, basic business practice to get fresh ideas from an independent source. Even if we stay with the MU letters, can we please leave the 60's style chunky block letters behind and have something that is more aesthetically pleasing?

What lettering are you referring to? The monogram?

The court this year looks different from previous years. (See attached photos)
The stain in the lane is too light.
The gold is more muted.
The plain wood has more of a whitish tint.
I like the whitish tint to the plain wood but prefer the darker stain and brighter gold.
I like the newer one. The tint is good, the gold is fine, and the lighter stain in the lane looks better imo.
("Stain in the Lane" would have been a good nickname for Matt Stainbrook from Xavier)

I doubt Marquette has used anything in house for athletic branding since the name change.

That's a hard not going to happen. You don't often rebrand a monogram.
When the Big East expanded there was a push for simple, bold monogram for all the schools. The only school that didn't clean up their primary monogram was DePaul. Instead they stuck with their busy Blue Demon shield.
It's terrific branding. More and/or is not better n this situation.

I'm actually a fan of lettermarks that are instantly recognizable, so I like the MU mark (and prefer it without the "Marquette" banner).

Agree. This is the best. I made a 3D wood version of it for my basement 7-8 years ago.

I think Marquette prefers to include the name since going with MU is still a struggle with Mizzou.

This is the best one, and I also like it without the wordmark.
I think what is strange about the court is that it doesn't tie in to our current uniforms (or any of the most recent ones. Font is different and (more irritatingly to me) the blues used are different. I'd much rather use Navy as the primary base than the royal blue.
I may be completely misremembering but I thought when the monogram logos debuted during the Gold name change, the one with the "Marquette" banner in front was to identify who this new logo belonged to with the long term goal being to go with the bannerless monogram once the logo was widely recognized.
I like the monogram. Wouldn't change it.

The one with "Marquette" is the primary athletics monogram. The one without is secondary.

I'm aware, but I thought the end goal was for the bannerless logo to be the primary down the road.
(Cheap plug: I've recently added old Marquette logos to www.muoverload.com > Miscellaneous > Logos)
I enjoy that the monogram is similar to an MU used in the 60s. See attached photo.

You are remembering correctly.
Having the school name in the logo is very mid-majorish. The MU in itself is excellent.

DePaul has doubled down on their logo, which is the worst in the conference by far. It's all over their athletic facilities now.

They doubled down ten years ago at this point it's tripled down or more. I had a depaul hat with roughly that logo in 2001
If they put a chicken on the court, I will not attend games.
Speaking of DePaul needing a long overdue rebrand, is Xavier ever going to drop the crappy X on the side of their shorts?

replacing Billy Blue Demon was a mistake. They released a limited number of Billy t's last year (I think I was told 400), one had to donate to buy it. They were gone within an hour. I thought the new AD would look to make a change, instead, he's gone even more all in.

I actually met this guy at a trade show many years ago, dressed in his habit and staying very much in character as he walked around. He was hysterical!
