Wow, good for Symir. I thought for sure he'd be transferring down.
He was an AAU teammate of Buddy Boeheim's. So his dad probably knows full well what he is getting in Symir and how to play to his strengths.

Cmon. This is just classless. Symir committed to Marquette and played his a*s off while representing the University well. No need to crap on a kid because you're salty he missed a few shots on the court. Be better.
Wish the young man well. I hope Jim Boeheim makes him something special.
Good for you Symir. Good luck with everything you do!

I thought he was a natural/creative passer and solid positional defender that used his length well. Good instincts in general. Wojo seemed to have him playing on edge/second guessing himself constantly, which is basically the worst possible mental state to have a PG playing in. Needs to work on his shot, if that comes around he will be a quality player at the top of the 2/3 zone.

Do well young man at Syracuse.

He's already showed you you're wrong you bum. You said he has no discernible strengths, as he commits to play on scholarship for a D1 university that regularly goes deep in March.
Go hate on 19 year old kids playing basketball for your entertainment elsewhere you weirdo.
If Symir turns out to be a player at Syracuse, it will be another example of Wojo being a horrible coach. I wish Symir the best and hope he is great.

Yes, I am a little annoyed/angry about BCs comment. It was completely uncalled for and honestly, reflects on him poorly.
However, as a Marquette fan it also reflects on our fanbase poorly. You realize that we actually want players to attend Marquette, yes?
The old adage holds true: if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Or even better--rule #1: don't be an as*hole.
Both of the above seem to be a lost art.

I'm always puzzled when people cannot differentiate between criticism and negative cynicism.
Boeheim isn't "wasting" a scholarship on someone as a favor. He must see some potential there. Just like Frank Martin who recruited him to transfer to SC despite seeing the same shooting statistics that you and BC see.
It's fine to be critical of players. It's pretty pathetic to crap on one who is on his way out just because he ended up a school that you (not you specifically, but you in general terms) thought based on your limited basketball knowledge he would never even be considered for less recruited to.
It is okay to admit you maybe aren't as basketball savvy as a hall of fame basketball coach.

Different years IIRC. Buddy played 17's with City Rocks in 2017 (and I think some the year prior). Symir was with their 16's that year.

He must have more strengths than you because, while he is still in college, to the best of my knowledge he isn't on the Internet anonymously ripping on kids. Who does that?

You're mistaken. Sy posts on CITYROCKSSCOOP all the time, and he's brutal on those U16s.

Damn, shoulda known that Torrence was the second best player on the squad this past season. +/- stats have never lied
For the record, BCHoopster has been around an awful lot of great basketball players and coaches over the years. I would never dismiss his appraisal of talent. I might not always agree with him, but I do know his comments are based off of a ton of experience.
My thoughts on him were he re-classified and probably wasn't ready as a frosh and lost his whole off-season to Covid which slowed his progress more. The majority of the time on the court, the game seemed to move too fast for him but he flashed incredible moments of brilliance. Wish him well at Syracuse but hope they're terrible as a team because Jim Boeheim blows.
I'll admit to being really surprising that an ACC school would give him a scholarship. MU will replace him, and potentially upgrade, and Sy was able to not sit out a year. Good for everyone involved.
Good luck to Sy at Syracuse. I appreciate his effort and attitude at MUBB.

BC Hoopster or Jim Boeheim.... I really gotta think about that one.
so he could be crack the line up on a 9th place big east squad but is now gonna get time for cuse.in the acc? are they expecting no guard talent on the roster next year? playing time wise i dont get it unless u wanna say he makes massive jumps

Moves from 9th place BigEast team to an 8th place ACC team. Seems like a pretty much parallel move.

Based off of Sy's time at MU I have zero idea if he can play at a high level or not. His freshman year I stated on here that I would play him a ton and see what he can do. Unfortunately, that did not happen and he has incomplete grade in my book. As for Boeheim taking him, I cannot give a positive or negative at this time. Coaches take guys for a lot of reasons and I hope the kid does great.
More importantly, I have read on here on 100's of times about guys being freshmen and setting realistic expectations. I think that thought process is so outdated I cannot believe it. Guys that can play, can play regardless of year in school they are. I do not want 90% of our freshmen given a free pass with old school thinking.

There's a lot to digest in this particular line. It's quite a generalization and one that runs contrary to the opinion most people - including a certain Al McGuire ("best thing about freshman...").
This isn't old school thinking. As a general rule of thumb, kids get better as they get older. That's just a fact. There's no comparison between a HS freshman and a HS Senior. While the difference is less at the college level, you still see a difference.
Are there freshman who are successful contributors as freshman? Of course. Does that mean they won't be better 4 years down the line? Not at all.
Freshmen get better when they become sophomores. And sophomores get better their next year. This isn't old school thinking. It's reality. They come in as 18 year old kids and leave as 22 year young men.
Anyway, enough of that silliness. I agree with you; no idea if Symir will become an integral part of the Cuse team or if he'll just be a bit player. No one knows. Not me, not you, and not even Boeheim. But Boeheim and Frank Martin and some others certainly think he has the potential. I'll put stock in their experience and opinions.
I hope he has great success. And, make no mistake about it, I hope Marquette replaces him with someone better.
Though they're pretty different players, perhaps Symir's situation can be compared to that of Duane Wilson's. Duane was never really able to find his role under Wojo, and I think he was a better player than his time here suggested. Buzz's style was a good fit for Duane, but Wojo's was not, and due to the NCAA's archaic transfer rules, he wasn't able to leave MU until it was too late. One year at another school in another system just wasn't enough after four years of struggling to fit in at Marquette.
Symir got out with half his college career left. Three years, if he wants it. I'm happy he landed at a big time program and will be interested to see how he develops. I certainly don't blame him for transferring.

Symir seems like a good kid and teammate and I'd like to wish him all the best, but I can't.
Instead, I'll just hope he's the leading scorer, rebounder, and assist man on a team that loses every game because unnatural carnal knowledge Syracuse and unnatural carnal knowledge Jim Boeheim with a rusty catalytic converter.
Good luck to Sy. The only thing I ever thought he was missing was confidence. He came in young which probably contributed to this but then I'd hope for the coaching staff to build up his confidence but it didn't happen. Kid's got size, handles, vision and seemingly a good attitude. Needs to work on both aspects of his shot... mechanics and confidence. One summer of that and I predict good things from him.
