Should not be on any where near the list at this time - Wardle
I'd comment on "another thread". But nobody cares. lol.
1.Bielein..and I would even commit to hiring his son as "coach in waiting". If the system doesn't work, you can go another direction when the senior B retires. If it works, you have long term continuity.
2. Smart. Let him reboot at a basketball only school and re establish his VCU style of play. Plus, I think his recruits could follow him and we may retain some of our roster.
3. Porter...let's see if he can translate his success to the big East...really impressed with his coaching chops.
4. Gates. Would love to see us get someone on the rise with experience, prior connection to the university and someone who can recruit the Chicago market.
5. Archie Miller. Redemption time after failing at IU.
6. The grab bag...pick any from Drake, Winthrop, UCSB, etc.
No wardle.

Normally, I don't get my undies in a twist over redundant threads.
But c'mon guys, there's already a thread with this exact premise:

I noticed that we didn't have a thread captioned, "Identify Your Top Few Picks To Be the Next MU Head Coach". I think such a thread is sorely needed at this pivotal time in MU's history.

Patrick will likely be a very good coach. Look into why John is trying to bring him along as AC though, and you'll understand why it will not happen at MU. I hope he gets another chance eventually, but it cannot & will not be at MU. Hence, John will not be here either.

Beilein, Pitino, and Matta would be of interest, but I am also not delusional about MU hoops and don't think they're realistic candidates for various different reasons.

+1
1. Moser (the deeper Loyola goes in the tournament, the less likely this happens)
2. Gates (critics of his amount head coaching experience need to know he has more than Majerus, KO, Crean, Brent, and Steve combined when they were hired as Marquette's head coach)
3. Shaka (only way this happens is of he's fired by Texas and they pay his buyout)
4. Any of the possibilities not mentioned above but who've been mentioned frequently here.
5. Anyone but Crean.

Has almost everyone forgotten about Beilein's "thug" comment when he was with the Cavaliers? Marquette hasn't been in the habit of being the place for coaches to rehab their image (see Ben Howland).
Much like us with Wojo, I think if any school came to UT with interest to hire Shaka, they'd waive the buyout.

But would Shaka?
Walking away from $7+ million can't be easy.
Shaka ain't coming to MU.

I guess my assumption is based off of Texas not firing him. Shaka would have to play hardball and say I'm only leaving if you fire me.
If Shaka just wants out and Texas is willing to give him one more year to save money, then waiving the buyout MU would pay Texas seems to be a real option. I don't know that Shaka has many years left on his current contract.

I would guess that if Texas is at the point where they'd be happy to see Shaka take his talents elsewhere, a $7.2 million buyout isn't going to make a difference. Even with COVID and Tom Hermann's buyout last year last year, that athletic department made a $22 million profit.
