Lmao. Well played.
Wonder the bearing this will have on Justin.
Congrats to Dwayne. Good for him. He was represented Marquette well. Well earned. Keep it going.
Coach wojo to se missouri st!
finally, now Wojo can win without Killings holding him back
If coach wojo never went to duke, would he still be our coach?
Wojo's coaching tree continues to blossom!
Congrats to Coach Killings. I sincerely hope whoever Wojo hires will be someone who is a solution to Wojo's vast array of shortcomings.
How about Baldwin and his son?

Why would he leave his UWM gig?
Congrats to Killings. Will be rooting him to succeed at Albany.
With Wojo staying a near-lock, I sincerely hope he hires an assistant with head coaching experience.

Fixed
Congrats to Coach Killings, I wish him well.
This is actually an opportunity for Wojo to own up to his failures and hire someone who addresses them. Scholl needs to tell him to hire someone who can fill in his deficiencies instead of someone who can keep up during noon ball. We shall see.

There is no rational explanation why a program that cares about basketball would have him on the sidelines to begin his 8th year. I know we're beating a dead horse but are there other examples of a HC with a tenure this long at a tier one D-1 school? By tier one I mean multiple F4's and in the top 25 range all-time.

Top of my head? It doesn't fit into your criteria, but Clemson has held onto their coach for a really long time without any success. Otherwise? Drawing a blank..

Agree here too
He's probably making a Killing at his new gig, hey?
Wojo seems like a really good guy. It's not possible these were his personal expectations after 7 yrs. In fact it's nowhere close and he'd be the first to own it. Obviously he's not going to resign but I bet he would handle things very well if he was bought out and replaced. And maybe he can find a niche somewhere else, perhaps even a high major, but we have no evidence it will be at MU or the BEast. Remember 8 yrs is dog years in college basketball. It's a tough job but results have to matter.

Browned made a S16 at Clemson 3 years ago, that bought him time.
Otherwise, the gold standard until two years ago was Andy Kennedy at Ole Miss. 12 seasons with 2 NCAA appearances and 1 win.
Andy Enfield has a nice team at USC this year, but it's been 8 years of meh for the most part. Same with Tinkle at Oregon St

I know I'm biased but I don't consider any of those programs in the same stratosphere as Marquette.

Good call on Tinkle. His son really saved him last year and two seasons ago. Great player on a really bad team.

I don't disagree with you. The mention of Clemson just made me think of P6 teams that held onto middling coaches quite a long time
So ...
We are now comparing mu to
Clemson , Ole Miss and OREGON ST ??
Good lord. This is bad. Really bad

I appreciate that you did think of other P6 programs because I think it illustrates my point even more. And while there are several posters I respect, especially the Gato's, that think we have a good nucleus and don't want to lose them, it's very difficult for me to believe we would be a factor next year. What I mean is a threat in the NCAA tournament. So even if everything were to go our way, including additional impact transfers, there is nothing my eyes have seen which would suggest we can make some noise in March. Ergo, blowing it up seems prudent from my vantage point. And I'll tell you something else: guys like Underwood, Musselman, Oats, Porter, and others were out there. If you accept mediocrity, or sub-medioctity, the problem is you. This is my personal message to those in.charge at MU.

Agree again. Also if there was no COVID and if Marquette got in the 8/9 game last year where most Bracketologies had Marquette and we beat either Houston or Arizona which most Bracketologies had us paired against it may be a different story. But it is not unfortunately.

I did not think they would win just said if they would of had a chance without COVID and won things might be different. But they are not.Again. I did not think they would win.
Here's the thing, and I'll be the first to admit it, two years ago it looked like we should extend Wojo. I forget things but we were like 20-4 and closing in on a 3 seed. Not only that but for 19-20, before the infamous "letter", many projected us as a top 5 team last season. I realize I get a bit hyperbolic with regards to MU hoops but I was right there that we had tremendous potential to make a legitimate tournament run. However, looking back, I and others got ahead of reality. We lost two very good players but we were still flawed and there was a bit of smoke and mirrors in our legitimate chances. We all have enough data, It's time to move another direction.

Does the fact that Wojo may very well be gone at the end of next year make it harder for him to hire a good AC? Great for killings but man this is turning into a train wreck. How many of Ks recruits follow him out the door too?

Marquette will likely still pay well for a new assistant (or two!). Wojo and a new assistant will still bet on themselves to win and MU likely ends up with a good assistant coach. The hope is we get one that can help Wojo get over his shortcomings.

I mean I guess he has better success getting ACs to the HC level than he does getting kids to the NBA....

How about Baldwin and his son?
I heard a rumor (non-Marquette source), even before MU was 1st-rd ousted from the BET, that Pat Baldwin will be the next head coach of Marquette.
To think of the irony there's even a slight possibility NU's Chris Collins unwittingly sent Wojo's successor up to Milwaukee, right next door to him.
If it came down to TJO and Pitino, it's a no-brainer. You take the baggage and welcome Rick to MU. Pat Baldwin and Pitino, OTOH, requires some thought. I would still take Baldwin, even without his son.

What has Baldwin done that would make him an attractive coach other than his son? UWM is not an easy place to win, but other than a few good Horizon League tournaments, Baldwin hasn't done much.
"UWM is not an easy place to win".
Understatement of the century.
Pat Baldwin, given a chance at Marquette, would elevate his game substantially. He's the perfect fit. Really, really knows the Midwest. Understands what it's like to produce for an institution (NU both as a student-athlete and coach) that wants to keep its academic reputation strong.
I would welcome Pat Baldwin with open arms...
...as a replacement for Coach Killings.

Are you his agent? His CV was representative of the job he got. Which even if it is a tough place to win, hasn't merited a promotion to even a MVC or A10 job, much less a profile and budget like Marquette. Claiming a guy who spent the entirety of his assistant career at middling/losing programs, and then an inauspicious HC tenure, would decidedly "elevate his game substantially" is absurdly baseless speculation.

Agreed! Good for him and his family, big step and could be a nice path for him on the road to higher places
Pat Baldwin Jan. 24th and after, past three seasons:
2018-19: 0-11 to the end the season.
2019-20: 2-9, 0-6 to end season
2020-21: 1-6, 5 in a row at the end. Untill winning 3 in a row and blowing the game vs CSU (HL semi's). 4-7

Thats right. Hire somebody to cover Wojo-Dukiets shortcomings. Makes sense and is better than finding a winner coach. That...might be difficult.
