Was able to successfully place an online order from Mariano's for delivery next Tuesday, including toilet paper, disinfectant wipes, and all the food I wanted. They prevented you from buying TP/wipes in bulk, which is smart.
Fingers crossed I actually get all of that stuff.
Silver lining: there was a crap ton more people out walking and biking the last few days than I've seen other than the most perfect of weekend holidays. At least people are out getting some fresh air and exercise.

Yep, our neighborhood is jammed with folks out walking and biking. Even chatting a respectful distance apart. It's nice.
I have seen the same increase in people out walking, running, biking, shooting hoops and such. People are staying at a safe distance, but seem to be in a good place when they're outside.
Certainly a welcome break from the stress of the news....

Brittany and I are committing $5,000,000 to the State of Louisiana in 2020. The priority now is helping our communities get through this tough time.
After considerable research and conversations with local organizations, we will be mobilizing our partnerships with Second Harvest Food Bank, Ochsner Health Systems, Walk-Ons, Jimmy Johns, Smalls Sliders and Waitr to prepare and deliver over 10,000 meals per day throughout Louisiana for as long as it takes to children on meal programs, seniors, and families in need. Let's all do our part, maintain hope, and get through this together

I wonder if the recent militancy of handwashing and germaphobia .. will have an impact on global health 1-3-5-10 years down the line.
I mean, while it's always been important for children to wash their hands, this generation of children will have it pounded into their heads for 1-2-3-4-5 months. -- Not to mention all age groups.
We often talk about people who "lived through the Great Depression, so they hide their money in the back yard 40 years later.." Same thing with COVID19 and germs?

Our office got shut down well before the official order, and I was feeling sorry for myself because it also meant that my retirement party was cancelled. I knew that I would not be coming into the office for the rest of the month, so after I got off the train, I pulled the monthly parking tag out of my car (there is a two-year wait for those in my lot), walked over to the daily parking area, and handed it to a random person. They acted like I had just given them a thousand dollars. And it improved my own mood dramatically.

Pretty great. The Shedd Aquarium has been incredible on social media during the pandemic. Bringing the penguins around the aquarium and posting videos of them being excited or perplexed by the various exhibits and other animals standing or swimming in front of them. Some of otters in the halls as well
Five straight days in my county -- Mecklenburg, the largest in NC -- without a COVID-19 death.
I think our governor and our county leaders have done about as good a job as can be done with handling a brutally difficult situation like this. I am proud of those who have used social distancing, have worn masks, have stayed at home whenever possible, etc, so we can try to get out of this horrible crisis.
A week from today, if all continues improving, we will go to Phase 2, which will open up the majority of the economy. Fingers crossed.

A worker at a Costco store is being praised on social media for calmly deescalating a battle with an angry customer who refused to wear a mask while shopping in the store.
Costco requires all employees and customers to wear a face covering while inside its retail locations. But the customer filmed himself waiting in the checkout line without a mask and berating a worker named Tison who asked him to put one on.
"I'm not doing it because I woke up in a free country," the customer said after threatening to put the Costco worker on his "3,000-follower Instagram feed." Tison greeted the man's Instagram followers, politely told him to have a great day and walked away ― taking the customer's shopping cart of goods with him.
"You're no longer welcome here in our warehouse," Tison said. "You need to leave, thank you very much."

Good website, though. I look at it almost every day. It's mostly a humor site, but they occasionally do stuff like this.
My wife is a pediatric RN for the largest hospital group in the Southeast. Today, all of the doctors, and many of the PAs, nurse practitioners and RNs, staged a "white coats for black lives" memorial for George Floyd and other victims, as well as a show of support for those still trying to persevere through systemic racism.
At the designated time, each took a knee for 8 minutes, 46 seconds.
The doctors and many other health-care workers did it outside on the grounds so everyone passing by in cars or on foot could see them. Others who couldn't get outside took a knee inside the hospital.
My wife said it was an incredible sight and experience.
Not covid related but still nice.

Florida has effectively ceased testing. They tested under 20k people yesterday for the first time in months. Taking the president's point to heart: If you stop testing, then the numbers will go down.
If you notice, Florida's % positive rate is still higher than 15%. They are in a world of hurt right now.

The biggest thing to me with testing is how soon the results get back on those that are asymptomatic or been exposed. common sense should come into play for those that are sick. That is why the rapid saliva tests could be huge going forward.

This is misleading and the conclusions you are drawing from it are wrong. The reason less people are being tested in Florida isn't because testing is unavailable, it's because fewer people are sick/symptomatic. For example, free testing has been available at Century Link Field for quite some time. A month ago the lines were a mile long. Lately it's been a ghost town. The fact that the % of people tested who test positive remains constant is logical but meaningless.
If I'm right deaths will drop significantly over the next 6 weeks. If you're right they'll remain steady. We'll see.

No, you drew conclusions from the data that are false. The fact that fewer people are choosing to be tested despite the fact that the availability of testing hasn't diminished means fewer people have symptoms or know they've been exposed, not your political BS that "Florida has stopped testing". Bottom line, we'll know soon enough. If hospitalizations and deaths drop, I'm right. If not, you're right. Time will tell, a'ina?
I'm no epidemiologist, but neither are you two.
Personally I think you are both right. Spread is down (less positives overall, same positivity rate). This has led to stabilization or declines in hospitalization rate (guess since FL data isn't as easy to find). Which means lower deaths coming.
However the situation today still is a high base of spread since the positivity rates are so high. So good job but if FL starts relaxing rules or create spread areas (like schools), the gains can be reversed quickly.

I can't speak for Texas, Arizona and NC I suspect your conspiracy theory is also wrong about them but I'm not sure. Again if the same amount of people are getting sick and this is just a case of a halt in testing hospitalizations and deaths will remain constant. If not, they will drop. Stay tuned.

While it is true we are getting better at treating patients, don't read too much into charts like that. The chart reports survival of ICU patients.
Early on, hospitals were only swamped, so only the most dire of cases were being sent to ICUs. Those had and still do have poor survival statistics. Now, healthier patients are being moved to ICUs, because of fewer cases and higher capacity. That means just by virtue of healthier patients occupying ICU beds, the statistics would improve.
Not trying to start a giant message board fight but I find this to be positive. Over the past month or so we've known people who have been exposed to covid.
After second test and antibody testing of the 8 people, two had covid with minor symptoms (minor fever, cough) which were gone in 48 hours and one was asymptotic. These were three different families and only one person in each household of 5+ had.
The other 5 people were determined to have false positive tests

I agreed with you back then...so no argument that FL has turned a corner. However, I am not sure that we can declare Skat wrong. The magnitude of the decline in deaths should be more with the continued decline of cases -- and now there is an uplift positive test percent too. All not a good sign that FL has a handle on how much spread is out there.
Contrast that with TX and AZ that are seeing positivity decrease with similar to slightly lower # of tests. Much better sign.

A French Nun Turns 117 After Knocking Down Covid-19
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/10/world/europe/sister-andre-covid19.html?action=click&module=News&pgtype=Homepage
The coronavirus swept through the nursing home last month, just as nurses began consulting residents about vaccinations; 81 of its 88 residents became infected, including Sister André, and 11 eventually died.
Mr. Tavella said that until last month no case had been detected in the nursing home since the beginning of the pandemic. Still, the outbreak was a stark reminder that the virus has been devastating in places where the most vulnerable reside, even with stringent restrictions that have turned many nursing homes in the country and elsewhere in Europe into fortresses.
Sister André remained isolated for weeks and felt a bit "patraque," or off color, Mr. Tavella said, but she blamed the virus and not her age. She slept more than usual, but she prayed and remained asymptomatic. This week, she became the oldest known person to have survived Covid-19.
