This thread was fairly thought-provoking and useful in the prior year. So let's hand out grades for the season for our Warriors. I'm going to try to be balanced and objective. I can start:
Howard: A-; Howard played hero ball at times, but it worked out for the team more often than not this year. He still has nerves, which I think is a reflection of the fact that he doesn't have a calming influence at the top. I think he wants to have the legacy of a four year college guy - he'll be back next year. Wherever you land on Markus, he should be getting a hero's sendoff at next year's Senior Day.
S. Hauser: B+; Continued to excel in the areas he excelled at last year, but he didn't improve in his weaker areas as much as I thought he would. Questions remain on whether he is being used correctly - I don't know what I think yet. Sam also has natural leadership qualities, a calming influence that this team desperately needs to harness, and big shot making ability.
J. Hauser: B-; Struck me as Sam-lite from Day 1. He has all the skills to be a good player in the Big East, but he needs to improve his consistency. He hit a major freshman wall and at times looked lost out there, but I can mostly forgive that given his injury history and how hard it is to be a freshman in the Big East. Like Sam, Joey also made multiple big shots in clutch situations. Every team needs to have a guy or guys that can do that.
Theo John: B-; Theo has objectively improved immensely. There were times his freshman year where I would have called him a liability because of his wildness (tipslam on NMD). However, he seems to have corralled that for the most part, and he has become a force at the rim. He still has some work to do related to his back-to-the-basket game as well as controlling silly fouls. For a sophomore, I was impressed.
Ed Morrow: B; Morrow did everything and more than I would expect from a 6th man rebounder-type. The guy was an animal on the boards, but he negated some of that with questionable finishing ability. However, I think he's filling the role he's being asked to fill just fine. It will be nice to have him back next year.
Sacar Anim: B+; Anim gets a slight bump from me because he is one of maybe 2 guys on the team that can drive to the basket through contact or slash through the lane off the ball. That is terrifying to me because those are fundamental skills of basketball and a team cannot sustain success without multiple guys that can do that type of thing. Anim also surprised me with his 3pt shooting consistency this year. It is plenty sufficient for the role he plays. Anim's defense? I believe it's superior, but he may be being woefully misused - it's hard to tell.
Brendan Bailey: B-; I called this guy the slim reaper from Day 1. Nowhere near the skill level - but he moves and plays like Kevin Durant. The most important thing Bailey can do to independently improve this offseason is spend 4 hours in the morning in the gym each day shooting. Based on his role, he needs to improve his midrange and 3pt shooting consistency.
Jamal Cain: C; I absolutely loved this guy last year. Visibly, it seems he didn't work on his body as much as he should have. He must have also had some bad practices/scrimmages because he did not get off the bench nearly as much as I thought he could/should have (or else Wojo is making major rotational mistakes). It's not over for his career though, plenty of time to put in the work to be a stud.
Joseph Chartouny: D; Joe - you'll always be a part of the MU family. But holy cow this fella was well in over his head.
Wojo: C-; A great year turned as our as one could've even remotely imagined undid a large amount of goodwill Wojo earned from me. The team has clearly not been prepared for a game from an X's and O's standpoint for more than a month. It hurts even more to see the March Madness Confidential clip with Wojo screaming at the players to "play angry". He even said "it doesn't matter what the gameplan if you're not gonna play angry". Terrifying stuff right there because it turned out, IT REALLY MATTERED WHAT THE GAMEPLAN WAS! Wojo had the team peaking far too early, and we were exposed at the end of the season. This guy has got to figure it out from a team building, X's and O's, and NCAA tournament standpoint. Grow up Wojo.
Bench/Marotta/Others: INC
Im not gonna lie, at times this year sam hauser disappointed me, seemed like he regressed from last season
Why do people think Howard is going pro early. He might not go to the NBA at all. He'll get a summer contract and then be shipped to china or japan
Not big on giving grades, but no way Theo was a B. Can't provide a rating like that for a kid that cannot play at least 1/2 of a game. Since BE play started, he had 4 or more fouls in 90% of the games and hardly managed to play 18 minutes per contest.
He had some terrific games, but few and far between.
Work on a different shot, stop fouling and he will progress.
Too much grade inflation here. You flunk the final, your grades go down. Period.
No curves in the NCAA.
Chartouney got the mercy D. I would have given him the F he earned.
Markus A
Sam B-
Joe B-
Sacar B

Wojo B-

Given that everybody flunked the final, here's my grades:
Markus B-
Sam B-
Joey C-
Morrow C+
Sacar C
Matt H. C
Theo C-
Brendan C-
Cain D
Joe D-
Wojo D (final grade reflected losing most of the last month of the season)
I was generous to Theo as I think his defense improved dramatically. Brendan probably deserves better but this isn't Horton Roe and we don't give points for Mormon Missions.
Sacar's grade was influenced by the Murray State debacle and otherwise wiped out a impressive season for him.
Markus and Sam are our stars but they have to bear the brunt of the failure. They should know better.
You really think that Morrow outperformed Theo this year? Some serious flaws in your grading.

Ur a 2 guard and u shoot 50% from the ft line, Dont rebound n disappear half the time, but get a B as a fourth year junior?
Mmm ok

Sam had virtually no off season while rehabbing from hip surgery. Think the minutes he played caught up with him. His shot in the lane, normally money, was off the last month as he seemed to release the ball too early or on the way down rather than his normal release. Something was going on there.
I'd give Wojo a C
He had met my expectations through the season (top 5 seed, top 3 BE) and had a solid B heading into yesterday's game despite the poor finish to the year.
Absolutely flunked the final exam and was destroyed in yet another NCAA game and looked totally outmatched and had a piss poor game plan.
That was an enormous game for the program yesterday and it honestly could not have gone any worse. Definitely worthy of a full letter grade drop. Had they won yesterday I would have put him at a B+ regardless of what happened on Saturday.
Sorry but nobody gets an A
Markus scored a ton, and? To get an A wouldn't you need to be a complete player? He is a walking turnover 5 a game? 4 assist a game? Pathetic
Markus B+
Sam B
Joey C+
Sacar C+

I would give this team a D.
Sports are results driven. When we talk about previous season's on this board we never say things like "Well were won a lot of games that year" or "that was a good year because we saw player development." Instead i hear about when Al won a national championship, D wade led MU to a FF, Buzz's success with 2 Sweet sixteens and an elite 8 appearance, and a conference championship.
The only thing that matters is the final outcome, and we have nothing to show for what once looked like a promising season.
Non-conference tournament championship - NO
Regular season conference championship - NO
Big East conference championship - NO
Make a run in the NCAA tournament - NO
Win an NCAA tournament game - NO
Sure we were ranked in the top 10 for a period of time. But when it was time to close the deal Marquette failed.

I agree with giving Cam an A. He did everything was asked to do in his role. Worked hard in practice on the scout team and provided enthusiasm to the whole team. Glad we invested in giving that kid a spot on the team.

Only the ones who had all those things at their fingertips but failed to reach any of them with an historically bad collapse :P
step everyone down a half grade from original post.
Except Wojo....C- is right.

Yes, I believe he deserves a B-. He flunked the final.
Butch Lee was an all-American in 1977. He led our Warriors to a National Championship. That's an A+
DWade led our Warriors to the Final 4 in 2003. Put our team on his back and destroyed Kentucky. That's an A+.
Jeral McNeal and that team got us to the Sweet 16. That's a B+ to an A-.
Results matter. We had a good regular season but the last few weeks of the season and the post-season were train wrecks. You cannot ignore that.

You are getting old. Jerel and the Amigos never made the sweet 16. 2-4 in the tournament. Ah, those halcyon days.

I know Brother Tower. I once lived on the 9th floor there too!
The Markus A grades are fluffing it.
BEPOY, AA, no matter when you absolutely bomb the final and the couple tests prior to that.

Sometimes, if your grade is high enough, the prof gives you the option of not taking the final.

Didn't see Markus sitting out the Murray State game.
That's something that might have happened with Zion Williamson.
My point is that he had built up enough cache the first 27 games.

Pretty good. Would be a D+ due to the monumental fold over the last 7 or 8 games.
BE POY gets an 'A' even though he had too many turnovers and didn't pass enough. This team was painful to watch without him in the lineup. Joe C must have been chewing gum while trying to dribble at the end of the first half.
Reality is.... we are barely a Top 40 team. Only Villanova (by 1) and Buffalo remain of the 'good' teams we beat. Big East only has 1 team left out of 32. Looks like the PAC 10 was also better than we thought. So no one else gets above a 'C'. Wojo continues to fail.
