We will know at 3:30 ET. So will it be Markus or Powell? If it is based on the entire season then Markus, but if it is based on who was most valuable to their team I would go with Powell.
If it's not Markus, I will be quite displeased.
Gotta be Markus, for his consistent top level performance. He was Player of the week 7 times this season; that's just crazy. Powell got it once.

Dude. I've been so depressed about the 4L's that I didn't even realize the first teams all came out
Ponds won?? Wow - sure didn't see that coming. I could have sort of understood Powell, but...wow.
Pretty underwhelming choice.
Congrats to Howard. POY that's huge.

Appears to be confirmed, markus it is.
Congrats to Markus
weird they tweeted it before the shoot around show got to that point.
Anyways congrats to Markus
Congrats to a true Warrior.
A pleasure to watch; a hard-nosed competitor; took it upon himself to improve his defense; had some huge performances in games we wouldn't have had a chance to win if he didn't play extremely well.
Markus is very deserving.
Finally this thread is making sense again....
Congrats to Markus!

Sorry Gooooo I was joking. I am sorry.
And Galway I got the tweet alert from MU. Apparently it came earlier than the show announced it.

Wait ... but we had a thread just the other day that led with Markus having played himself out of BEPOY consideration.
The other big news out of that insightful post was that Sam quit.
Has Wojo announced yet who will be starting tomorrow in Sam's place?
Congratulations to Markus. Well deserved. Hope Wojo doesn't listen to scoop and bench you.

Absolutely. I hope Wojo screams at Markus and every other Warrior that they have to relax!
I said this kiddingly, but I was reffing a youth basketball game last season and the coach really was screaming at the 11-year-olds under his charge: "You HAVE to RELAX!" I had to laugh out loud.

LOL. Sounds like a great way to get a bunch of 11-year old kids relaxed....
On the Big East Shootaround show when asked what he expects next year Markus said he doesn't want to talk about the future and wants to live in the present.

Could be a hint about next season.
Or could be a guy whose team is one day away from starting what he hopes will be a long and fruitful postseason run and he wants to concentrate on that.

I know that's a standard "no comment" kind of line, but Markus seems to genuinely enjoy the college experience, so I wouldn't read too much into it.
Regardless, with the new, more flexible rules, I won't be shocked if he tests the waters. I also won't be shocked if he then comes back and uses what he learned to improve his game at MU.

I doubt Markus goes to the NBA. He'd be lucky to get drafted at all after his last few weeks. Maybe if he goes bonkers next few weeks and leads us to the final 4. Otherwise, just don't see it.

How did Jay Wright win COY over Willard??? I love Jay Wright, but Willard got robbed.
Congrats to Markus. Well-deserved for his body of work all season.
A little surprised that Wright won COY. He's not a bad choice at all, but I thought that Willard at SHU and McDermott at Creighton had the best seasons vs expectations. Thought Wright and Wojo basically finished about where everyone thought they would preseason.

Not any different than had Markus not won the award, imo. College performance and NBA draft range are not always synonymous.
The SI big board ranked Markus 44th about a month ago. That was up from 63 on their January board, so Markus was trending up.
I expect Markus will declare and test the waters. The feedback Markus receives will be more influential than what awards he wins.

No freshman has ever won it.

You know he got votes, including Jay Wright's who admitted he voted for him. If he was such a slouch, or used car salesman as you implied, he would have received any.
By the way, how long you been following MU? You've said 1954, 1955, 1957. You keep changing the years, how long as it been?

You are correct. Charles E. Smith and Charles D. Smith. I will correct.
Where's Sacar redux?
Quote"There's guys like Theo (John) and Ed (Morrow Jr.) that are setting screens to get me open that go unnoticed. Guys like Sam (Hauser) and Joey (Hauser) who are unbelievable players and their attention (from opponents' defenses) gets me open. I'm just so grateful for those guys. This is as much their award as it is mine."
Congrats to Mr. Howard. A huge and well deserved honor. I think he and I would agree that we won't be satisfied unless we bring home a BET championship along with it!

I think Markus is going to find more calls going his way in NYC. There is a certain cache about winning this award, and the league and its top players are being showcased to the country.
On that note, look for MU to take some of the pressure off themselves and do some showcasing of their own. Recruits who are otherwise busy leading their HS teams to state titles are still watching . Play hard, have fun, and show these kids (and also some of the stodgier leagues) what a free-flowing game looks like.
