I know there is still a long way to go in the season. However, after the rankings game out today I really hope Grimes a takes a brief moment to pause and think "hmm, maybe my mom was right about Marquette after all."

This seems unlikely.
They did beat us when fully healthy.
That said I have maintained that I do think he would have been more successful on our roster.
Can't really blame the guy for choosing to start on the 14 consecutive time Big 12 champs tho(or whatever number it is).
Why?
MU is doing just fine without him and I doubt he's crushed about starting for a blueblood just because MU moved one spot ahead of them in rankings.
He's a freshman getting big minutes at one of the most storied, popular, and consistently successful college basketball programs in history. The word "Marquette" has nary crossed his mind.
Fook 'em orr as F*ckin' wood say, " he's ded," hey?

Self has been trying to motivate him and basically said he was half-derrière'in it anyway. No Thanks.
this MU team "has fiber." -Jay Bilas
Honestly, half a season later, I would rather we had landed Ashton Hagans than Grimes. Unbelievable defender, effective getting into the lane, and a low-usage player that has been happy to defer to teammates. He's been everything for Kentucky that we were hoping to get from Joe Chartouny.

I agree with this 100%. I really love watching him play. He always seems to be in the middle of every defensive rally for that team.
Sorry, I'm still just a little bitter about how his whole recruitment went down and had to vent.

Related to this. What is really important to MU is a defensive stopper. That is what Sacar has brought. Grimes isn't that defensive stopper right now.
Now obviously, looking at a multi-year time table, I'd want Grimes.
But for this team this year, Sacar is the better fit. Hagans would be ideal.

The only time I ever paid attention to something Bo Ryan said....he was a guest with Terry Boers and Dan Bernstein on the Score, and DB was itemizing all the seniors he had lost to graduation, and Bo stopped him midstream and goes, "people in life are always lamenting what they used to have, whether it's money, cars, status, etc. Or, in a coach's case players, recruits, etc. I never did that, won't do it now, and never will do that. Dan, I prefer to talk about what I have. I want to talk who I have, not who I don't have."
We need to talk about this unique bunch of guys we have right here, right now.

Did you really just quote that buck-toothed, phony Bo Ryan IN A POSITIVE WAY on Scoop? You do realize he's been in hiding for over 3 years because he is too ashamed to show his face in public.

They're talking on the HolyLandofHoops site right now about why a couple MU-fan posters can't just be happy to be ranked #10. This is all I was getting at. Who the F cares about Grimes? You just made my point for me...who the F cares about Wisconsin? Ok, look, I probably hate UW more than you. If you can't see the relevance of that statement about focusing on us, right now...there's no help for you. I've quoted Al McGuire to friends, family, co-workers probably 5000 times. I quote the Grinch once and I'm persona non-grata. Here...I'll fix it for you.....

BigDaddy was another user on scoop who had really good inside information. Wojo and Co. are very tight lipped. But bigdaddy had good intel. Then a few users jumped down his throat because something he said didn't happen and he hasn't been back.

Tongue-in-Cheek. Does RC=BD? Is Finkel Einhorn? This is no crying game.

Point taken. I am ecstatic that the season is playing out just as I envisioned it would! We have the best talent in the Big East, and I am happy to see us competing for a Big East title. Who cares about Grimes, who cares about The Grinch. Go MU!
Don't need no stinkin' Grimes or Hagans.

Also, I have no idea if there is any relation, but he once recommended that I go to Big Daddy's in Fairhope, AL. Would recommend the crab claws. Some of the best I've had.

The jumping down his throat happened in May, he stopped posting in August.
Did anybody "jump down his throat"? Or did a few posters point out that not every single thing he says is gospel (as is the case with all of us)? I honestly don't remember the tone.
FWIW, I neither criticized him nor kissed his ring. I was glad he posted here. If he no longer wants to post here, that's up to him and we'll somehow survive.
Was he the one that said Shaka was a done deal?
Heise wouldn't let a single BigDaddy post go without bringing up his "error." Now we have Heise back and no BigDaddy. What a trade.

Yessir. Kind of like Brock for Broglio. And Smuggles ain't no base-stealer.
IIRC, it wasn't even an error. I think BD posted that the coaches felt good about Damien Lee and thought Marquette would get a visit. Instead, Lee committed during his Louisville on campus. One poster took this as proof that BD was a sham and brought it up just about every time BD posted. I suppose it was possible that BD was making things up...but it was also possible that the coaches did feel good about Lee but he fell in love with Louisville's strippe...er....recruiting pitch.

No, that was IWB (Jim), who runs the BrewCityBall website. the whole #DoneDeal thing got blown way out of proportion. Shaka gave a verbal while in Milwaukee, and then his wife made him go to Texas for "family"reasons. It's yet another great example of how our fellow scoopers never let people forget when they misspoke.

Yeah...that's an oversimplification. IWB got bad info and jumped the gun, it's ok, it happens. Also, Shaka didn't go to Texas that year, he stayed at VCU and ended up at Texas the following year, not for family reasons.

No. The Mrs. Smart part of the story has been overexaggerated. As far as I am aware, she was not holding out for the Texas job (or any job for that matter). There might be truth that she didn't like the Marquette job, but I believe that had more to do with not knowing who the AD was going to be at the time.

I thought the story was Shaka gave MU a verbal but insisted on returning home to tell his players in person. Then when a certain interim AD spilled the beans early Shaka got upset and pulled the plug.

Thanks for the intel. I hadn't heard that. Doesn't strike me as some kind of deep insult to the program, just a 17-year-old kid who doesn't know much about professionalism yet.
Also, I appreciate that this thread has somehow turned into an airing of grievances.

From what I've heard, it's a bit of both. Shaka gave the verbal while meeting with Doc. Then whether it was his wife or just thinking more about leaving VCU, he changed his mind. IWB did jump the gun, and it didn't go over well that the verbal commitment got out ahead of the official announcement with either camp.
You're right that Texas was the next year and I don't think had anything to do with us.
IWB's board was really interesting during the buzz tenure and into the Shaka drama, but I felt it got really dull after that settled when he obviously had no connections with wojo. It began to feel like here without a few annoying posters. Is it back to a quality "insider" board or pretty much the same as here still?
Edit: Dang I just went over there and checked out the Depaul game thread. It had 8 posts and 6 of them were from IWB.

Ban dis dood.
There's never been much on the public board, anything worth reading is behind the pay wall. Mark Miller still posts on the private board and I think IWB has started to build contacts with the new staff (he told me about the Torrence commit before it was public) but it's not like the Buzz days. He had some server issues that impacted recent traffic but that seems fixed now.
