Nice I like it, we're steadily creeping up.
A few things that give me hope that we can outperform even this #22 ranking:
I think with the system and surrounding players, Chartouny will perform better than his projection, and possibly mean more to the flow & synergy than a 2.5. I'm thinking like a DJames senior year 4.12, but his point of attack D, height/length, and pass-first mentality will mean more.
Morrow is projected at 3.27, I'm thinking he'll be a 4+ as well, even if it's just the added dimension he adds that makes everyone else better
Joey at 3.79 has serious potential to outperform that. Sam posted a 4.4, I could see Joey near 5 or better
Thinking at least one of Theo, Cain, or Elliott will outperform their projection too .
Which bumps us up to the 10-15 range.
Obviously room for downside with some or all of those (and others), so a base case of #22 is reasonable with a 10-15 upside more likely than 35-ish on the downside. We should be in for a great year.
Also, I was expecting to see Montana higher with their stable of talented seniors, but it looks like they only have 7 players listed. Was there some mass exodus there I missed? I had them pegged as one of my Loyola-esque sleeper teams coming into this year.
Is the Wino on campus yet?

This makes sense.
I still think the model significantly undervalues Quincy McKnight at Seton Hall.
I think St John's is also expecting big things from juco All-American LJ Figueroa.
St. John's went from having 4 guys returning that saw action last season to a full 13 scholarships used. Quite a transformation.

They might be hopeful for that in 2018-19, but it's unlikely.

I've not seen a welcome tweet so I guess not
Great stuff as always Auburn. I made a few Big East specific updates on the google doc. Jalen-Coleman Lands and Gregory Malinowski are pretty significant transfers coming available for DePaul and Georgetown. Emmitt Holt has also been cleared to play. Assuming he's healthy he should be a huge boost to Providence. Few other small ones as well.

Precedent is not on the side of Heron. But still, I'd expect SJU to be third with what they have returning with Ponds, Clark and Simon and two impact transfers who sat last season coming eligible.

They have a real good starting 4 in Ponds, Simon, Clark, and Dixon. The drop off after that is steep though, unless their JUCO Figueroa comes through in a big way. Could see bench production being a concern. Add Heron and they could be a BEast title contender

Also need help from 6'9" transfer Sedee Keita in the middle.

I also hear facebook is going to be big ;D
In other Big East grad transfer news, Creighton landed Connor Cashaw SG out of Rice. His efficiency wasn't great but he scored a lot, assisted reasonably well, and rebounded very well for his size. Would imagine he snags a starting spot for them. Still think they don't have enough to make the tourney, but it helps mitigate the loss of Thomas.
Updated this piece with a note - Providence moves to 32nd overall and makes it a fourth team pretty close together between 11th (Nova), Marquette and St. John's.
A late note and good catch - back from sitting out Emmitt Holt boosts St. John's by 5.16 because he kicks out their 8th best player from the calculation, who was only a 0.79.
The only cautionary note I throw in is that while I have received some edits from around the country on the google sheet, I have received more from MU fans, so likely some teams are further down just because I am missing a key player.

Personally, I wouldn't include Heron in your model at St John's until he is granted a waiver. As has been noted by Jay Bee, there's really nothing in his case to justify a waiver based on the new rules.
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology
On side note, Lunardi must be on opioids. I know its early but has MU as a play in #12, yet has Seton Hall as a #9 seed.
Seton Hall lost Delgado, Carrington, Rodriguez and Sanago. There is no way they are a #9, maybe not even get in.

Completely agree. These are bama's rankings so he can do as he wish, but I'd generally use a principled rule such as "if they are a traditional transfer and don't fit the criteria for a waiver, and there's no precedent for them being granted a waiver, they are not included in the calcs... but might be footnoted."
Before last season began I stated that St. John's might be the most difficult team to forecast (for 2017-18) in years. They proceeded to begin the year 10-2 (9-2 vs. D-I)... then they drop their first 11 BEast game, before going 5-3 the rest of the way with wins over Duke, Nova, MU, and Butler to end the regular season.
Owens, Yakwe, Ahmed and Amar A. are gone, yes? Last year the GOOD for them was actually their defense.. I think people think of the guards... and drool.. but it was the D that was so great (nh). Their defensive 2FG% was key, and there are gonna be a lot of new minutes down low this year. You still have Simon who can be great defensively, but overall I think a lot of people are propping them up more than perhaps they should.
That said, I see a big a$$ range of reasonably possible outcomes for St. John's. Not as crazy as last year, but they - for me - are again a difficult team to project.
SJU is very erratic as it often has trouble scoring. Hard to win when you can't outscore the other guy. ;)
Weird that people are talking about SJU prospects and not mentioning they have the worst coach in the league. St. Jean is awful.

This model is tainted as it has Quincy McKnight as the 1769 best player in the country. That just doesn't pass any test of reasonableness for an All Conference player.

Lol. He shot like crap and turned it over a ton. Miserable numbers for a bad NEC team.
Is Quincy the new Kostas?
For the record, I do agree that McKnight is ranked too low by value add....but I'm probably closer to Auburn than I am to HC

No, Zaire is the new Kostas. But there's no indication McKnight could play successfully at a lower level, seems unlikely he'll succeed at this level. I expect him to simply be bad. Value Add has him way too high, in my opinion.

Weird that people are talking about SJU prospects and not mentioning they have the worst coach in the league. St. Jean is awful.
Well, considering we split with St. John's the last two seasons, and Mullin is 1-year behind Wojo in time on the job - not sure we should be calling Mullin awful.

Well, considering we split with St. John's the last two seasons, and Mullin is 1-year behind Wojo in time on the job - not sure we should be calling Mullin awful.
Mullin: 38-60 overall, 12-42 in conference.
Wojo: 73-59 overall, 31-41 in conference.
So despite having one less year, Mullin has still lost one more game than Wojo has.
Two years ago, Wojo split with Jay Wright. Wojo is great!
Even if Mullin is a better coach than Wojo (and there's no indication that's the case) it speaks change that Mullin sucks and the only thing he's succeeded at doing in 3 years is failing to meet expectations. Maybe he finally figures it out, but more likely half the team transfers out by January and they lose double digit conference games again.

You're right. Mullin hasn't shown yet that he's awful.
He's still several rungs below awful. Putrid, perhaps? Rancid? Malodorous?
Then again, St. John's did beat Duke the only time they've played in the last 3 years, and Mullin is several decades behind Coach K. Ipso fatso, CM > K.

You realize this logic reflect poorly on our coach, correct? We lost each of the last two years to Mullin coached teams that lost double digit conference games and dealt with depleted rosters.
Furthermore this awful, putrid, rancid, malodorous coach - Chris Mullin - has his team in Year 4 now positioned in a virtual tie via Value Add with MU in Year 5 of the Wojo regime?
End of the day, Golden Avalanche offered up his usual awful take - that Mullin is worst coach in the league. If you believe that to be true, then Wojo has to be right alongside Mullin.

Value Add and others are overrating St. John's. Having Heron included doesn't help, but even then it's true. Let the season play out, bud.
Yes, we lost last season to St. John's... if you recall, it was their third win in a row, having beat Nova and Duke in the games before us. They shot an insane 68.0% eFG% against us -- by FAR their best shooting of the entire season -- and were able to win by single digits at home against the Warriors. It's no secret that our defenses have been bad - and should improve nicely this season - but it was an especially rough night eFG% def wise at St. John's, and our offense was off (sub-50% eFG%). It'll be OK.
Wojo has done far better than Chris and will again this season.

Ners has not refuted this. He knows I'm right.
Wojo is 4-2 vs. Mullin. Not that that is a good way to compare coaches. But why focus on 2-2 the last two years when it is 4-2 overall?
I certainly haven't been impressed by Mullin so far...mostly because it doesn't seem like St. John's ever has an offensive game plan...but the next two years are really what will make or break him. He had a rebuild just as difficult or even harder than Wojo did when he took over. He has yet to get them close to the promised land. If he makes the tournament this season and improves next season, then I think he's on the right track. Unless Heron is ruled eligible (personally doubt it), I think they will fall short.

I agree with this. I think systems like value add really like St. John's because their top 5 players are very solid statistically. But the depth is not there and I don't see them being more than the sum of their parts. But time will tell.

Henry Ellenson should be a beast for MU in his senior season next year!
If only we would've given Kostas 2 years of scholarship to give us 4 and 2 in his one season played, putting him on the court with Hank next year would be lethal!

5-2. MU beat SJU in the BET in Mullin's first year.

Nope. That's dumb. You are trying to use a transitive property that would say the same about Jay Wright and Coach K. You're trying to analyze on a micro level when the conversation is macro.

Baldwin was crap in the non-conference last year and in general is one of the more overrated players in the league. He was better in conference play, no doubt, but is still just a mid-level starter in the league.

Yep. Will be interesting to see what he does with Kelan Martin gone this year...
BEast stats:
Baldwin: 106.6 ORtg, 24.7% usage, 50.6% eFG%, 17.4% DR%, 17.9% ast rate, 14.3% to rate, 2.2% stl%
Our sophomores from his class...
Sam: 131.8 ORtg, 17.2% usage, 65.5% eFG%, 20.6% DR%, 14.8% ast rate, 10.5% to rate, 1.4% stl%
Markus: 110.2% ORtg, 29.4% usage, 54.3% eFG%, 10.1% DR%, 19.6% ast rate, 16.0% to rate, 2.0% stl%
Different tier than MU's guys, hey? <shrug>

While I love a good Quincy McKnight troll, and he has been decidedly below average as you and most others aside from Herman expected, he does have the 4th highest steals rate in conference play and I really hope he does not have a field day in that respect tonight
