You're welcome. Some good opportunities to get a sneak peak of what these players can do against top 25 competition.
So...why would these guys leave?

Clearly jealous of our 2 seed in the NIT.

In Custer & Rorie's case, they started out at high majors and now could write their own ticket to another high major that's poised to make a run and fits their skill set with major mpg available. Step up in competition and major step up in exposure.
See: Egor Koulechov from Rice, Elijah Brown from New Mexcio last year

Not really. These guys are starting point guards for NCAA teams right now. Both Carlino and Reinhardt were coming off situations where there playing time was iffy.
I don't think guys leave there school that easily when they are in a good situation.
Agree with Sultan. A guy like Elmore is so happy since he's a West Virginia kid and is extremely close to his family. First NCAA team from Marshall in 33 years?
Not saying any of these guys won't grad transfer. Just saying that if you have a future 5th year guy who wasn't recruited by his current staff and isn't on a team that is likely NCAA bound next year, there's a better chance they take the option.

Carlino was asked to leave too.
Plus, if they transfer it has to be for a grad program their schools don't have.

I am learning a lot about the Carlino move today. I never knew he lacked playing time or was asked to leave. Thank you for sharing.

I said playing time was iffy. He went from a starter to guy who came off the bench, and his mpg decreased from his sophomore to junior years at BYU.
Here. Read this.

Here's what Carlino had to say about his time with BYU Hoops:
"I had a really good experience at BYU, but I left for a reason, I wasn't fully happy with the basketball situation. I wanted to give myself a better opportunity for my final year."
Is there a listing of potential grad transfers, and their stats?
I looked on page 1 of the recruiting thread, but not the other 499 pages.
Custer seems like the most realistic option. Of Loyola's top 6 players, 3 are Seniors, while Custer and another player are potential grad-transfer options. One of the graduating seniors (Ben Richardson) was a high school teammate of Custer, so that may have been a big attraction for him going to Loyola. If Porter Moser takes a different job, Loyola might look very different next year.

C'mon man. Loyola Chicago, Montana and Marshall.....
MU (or really 80% of P6 programs) are a clear step up and a far better situation for those guys to get exposure to play professionally. I would guess at least 1 of them will grad transfer, but obviously will be highly sought after.

Yep, really hope it plays out that way and he sees it the same way as us. Being from Kansas, I think Wichita St. (if they lose Shamet; but they also lose 3 other top complementary players) and Creighton (losing Foster) would be our biggest competition.
Not to mention that those exceptions have become a joke. The school would create some sort of custom grad program that the other school doesn't really "offer" anyway.
They're all from one bid conferences. Loyola maybe could have gotten an at large this year but no guarantee.
An upset win or two could mean their coach gets a new job.
Maybe none of them transfer, maybe they all do. Either way, this is a good way to gauge what might be out there.
I'm not sure that we'll have a schollie available for Custer's younger brother.
I would love to see Jon Elmore in the blue and gold. His C-USA championship game performance was insane. He was shooting like Rowsey did on senior day. Elmore had 20 or so in the second half, with a lot of those points coming from well behind the NBA line. He was a lot of fun to watch last week.

Because being in a one-bid league where you have to win your conference tournament isn't a good situation. Even if their teams are favorites to win their leagues, they are more likely to land in the NIT than NCAA if they stay.

Did he look like he is capable of running the point, or more of a true SG?

Does this happen often? A one-bid league starter who made the tournament transferring to a P6 program the next year?

I think he was playing the point in the game or two I saw. He brought the ball up a lot and, I think he was the primary guy running the offense. Announcers talked a lot about his shooting, but he made some nice passes and got himself into the paint a few times too. He's not the most athletic guy on the floor, but he seems like a smart player and does a lot of things well.

As one example of what a tourney appearance can do to a team in a one-bid league: http://collegebasketball.nbcsports.com/2017/05/02/after-ncaa-tournament-appearance-mount-st-marys-loses-fifth-player-to-transfer/

Perhaps UWM the year before Jordan was hired? Arians transferred to Wake Forest IIRC.

There are about 25 more that this site has missed. Maybe they are only keeping track of ones that might interest high majors.
Don't worry, PT will have its free agent tracker again this year. Just be patient, season isn't over yet. At this point, there are only 5 out there I would think could even have a role at Marquette and none that I think could be a starter for us. Not worth listing them yet.
Question, I can't recall when a grad transfer actually commits to playing for another school. Is it after the B-ball season is over or school session over?

Makai Mason committed to play for Baylor next season at the beginning of this season. Others may wait until the day before classes start. Most are between those two. The most active time is April and May. June is still active and you get a few stragglers in July

There is so much movement in spring, it is like re-recruiting again but in a months time. Last year, how many kids moved, 800 or so. I do not see any problem with
getting a good 2 guard as well, just has to be able to play D and rebound. MU will be much stronger up front next year. Hauser, Hauser and Morrow will see lots of
action next year.

No. Dropping down doesn't require sitting out but moving up a division does.
