1. Cam played in a game in Madison because MU was up 20. Life is good.
2. Anybody but Bucky, I would feel a little bad about them playing so short handed. I'm over it.
3. Still more interesting than it should have been because of dumb fouls.
4. Contributions across the board. The freshmen got a taste. Made some mistakes but passed the test.
5. 14-22 Three point shooting. More than offset the free throw disparity.
6. The defense was better today because Madison runs motion and not high pick and rolls.
7. Heldt did a really nice job (with help) on Happ. He got some points, but he never took over.
8. The next time MU plays, Froling is going to be in the game.
9. A sweet win to savor for the next 9 days. Whatever will we complain about?
-
Defensive game plan and execution was outstanding. Hold teams to 63 and they aint gonna lose
-
Credit to Matt. He played great. He made Happ work, Happ had a bunch of turnovers.
-
As is a goal with all cupcakes, nobody got hurt ;)
Also, welcome Harry Froling.
-
I got my first ever tv win at Madison. The 4 wins at Madison by Marquette since 1997, I was in attendance.
-
Wisconsin is really bad. Still fun to kick their ass.

Dumptrucked!
-
Wisconsin is now out of opportunities for a quality non-conference win.....and the B1G is down so not as many opportunities there as usual.
I really want to see that tournament streak snapped.
-
Really nice game for Matt today. Good to see after some of his struggles.
-
1) Rowsey's personal run was pivotal in the victory. His personality is what fuels him as much as hinders him. Got the best of AR in the second half. Reminds me of Devendorf (spelling) on Cuse years ago.
2) Nice collective effort rebounding, especially the 7 by MH.
3) I like staggering the play of Rowsey and Markus (due to foul toruble). Almost worked in our advantage having the length and our gunners replacing each other throughout the game.
4) Thought Matt was plenty physical, smart. Very nice help defense by Sam and company. A lot of Happ's baskets did not come easy. Nice to get a few buckets inside.
One of my favorite plays later in the game was the 2-man action with Cain dishing to Heldt inside for the layup. You know things are going well when that happens.
-
Vegas oddsmakers have some work to do. I hope some of you made money.
-
Did anyone see Markus do the throat slit motion ala Crowder after his last three or was I hallucinating?
-
The spread was +7 MU and we win by 19? Time to give this team some love. Heidt played smart and did an effective job. The Freshman held their own, Anin was tough and our big three delivered in spite of fouls. What's not to like!

No way in hell wisconsin is making any tournament. They would be really lucky to be at .500 for the yesr. Already have 7 losses.

I prefer showing that you are better than their players on the court and as icing on the cake, better than their fans off it. But I’m approaching old fogeyness so maybe it’s just me.
-
I do like how Marquette worked the clock and kept the ball moving in the final 8 minutes.

Totally agree. Markus's game does the talking.

Epic.
You know, if UW stays this bad, there are going to be threads on Future Scoop about the Badger game ruining our SOS.
-
I continue to think we will finish 3rd in Big East and make it to the second weekend of the tournament . Today we got a road win against a Big Ten rival which is proof of Concept .
Big 3 with 63 equaled entire Badger output. Team ball movement was great.
-
What is all the fuss. We just beat a mid major team from a mid major conference.
-
I was a fan.
Me too. I am a fan of the “easy” throat slashes...

I did, I don't like it, but I get it. EMOTION!
Also liked Rowsey with his finger to his lips teasingly like , "Shhh, Dude, don't let the refs see that! But yeah!"
-
May this be the beginning of decent win streak over the Badgers.

Yeah I saw that too, good stuff.

Great W.
Considering we didn’t get A+ Markus and both Markus and Rowsey in foul trouble, a 20 point win is nice. 2 of the 3 calls on Markus we’re awful.
Davison is insufferable. Kid played a good game, but my lord he flops every play. Offense or defense, he’s in the floor every possession. The number of calls he got with his BS flops were comical. Without those calls, it’s a bit more lopsided.
-
Nahhhhhhh, they deserve it. Especially after their alumni's twitter behavior.
What did they do on twitter
-
Seems that Bucky’s moved on from Photoshop and into CGI.
-
Davison is insufferable.
My wife get imitating the twangy banjo from Deliverance every time there was a close up of Davidson.
-
I've been sending this one around...I'm a poor sport

Yes. The offensive foul call on Markus in the 1st half was so stupid. Davison tripped on his own feet.
-
The excuses ive been hearing from Badger fans after the game make it seem like King and Trice were All-American guards. Big deal, MU lost their starting PG too.
-

Funny, during one of their games, maybe Ohio State?, one of the commentators said, in reference to Davison, that he hated guys like him who were all “fake hustle.” Said it wasted a lot of energy when they really needed him to be able to run the whole game. Really liked the term “fake hustle.”

I get u but this rodents hate week plus they were talking crap to our guys. That is what got Rowesy the T he won't take crap, but it was dumb on his part.

Should have dropped wiscy and scheduled Dayton. If we have to have an annoying mid major on the schedule that won't be a quality win by the end of the year.
-
I like that , Tower. Nice to be able to rub it in a bit!!

I saw Dayton and was angry. Then I finished reading it. Well done.
-
Lots of empty seats today. No students in the 3rd level. The largest ovation was for the football players at the under 4 timeout in the first half. Joey was right behind the bench and every one of the players dapped him up after the game. Perfect game.

One other thing to add:
Brevin Pritzl might be the ugliest motherlover I have ever seen

Lots of positives tonight.
Great to get to a hot start. Good to hold the heat check when Bucky made a little run late in the 1st half (and loved the soft 5fter from Theo in the lane when Markus had suddenly went bricky). Other freshman looking good. So glad to see the foot to the pedal throughout the 2nd half - a piece of intensity that was so often lacking last year - and Happ and Davison are dangerous enough that Bucky could have easily gotten back in it. I bemoaned the coaching for the second half slumps and lack of playing hard for 40 minutes last year. Tonight we played hard for 40, and that's on Wojo. Well done.
I expected a win here, but by 20 surpasses what I thought. Puts us a bit ahead of "on track" which feels great. But games like this are tough, can't help but feel a bit like Rachel.

Marquette beats Wisconsin by double-digits at the Kohl Center. Badgers are now 4-7 overall; worst start since the 1983-84 season.

I also loved seeing Davison sulk after every three pointer dropped on Becky.

I love Redbreast, and Green spot. Thinking of treating myself to the 21 year old Redbreast for the Holidays. Have you had it?
-
It's great, but I'm more partial to the Redbreast 15 at half the price (buy two!).
If you haven't had Yellow Spot it's the 12yr. I think a marked step up from the Green.
And if you're not ideologically adverse to Protestant Whiskey it's almost worth a plane ticket to come over and pick up a case of the Bushmills 12yr Distillery Reserve.

I have the Yellow spot just haven't opened it yet. I'll pick up the 15 year, slainte!

No. Never been over there. Used to go to the old Wisconsin forum on scout, but haven't even done that much in the last couple of years.

Played well but the difference between a team like wisconsin and say purdue is when we doubled purdue i think hit 6 threes in a row. When we doubled today wisco either missed or in sone cases wouldnt even shoot. They r alot wirse than i even imagined, onky game i watch wisky play each year n never imagined they were this terrible.
Smart move Herro

I think this is the first time I’ve ever posted online a text I sent to my daughter who is a sophomore at Madison but here goes...
“If you ever wanted to irrationally get back at me for something, start dating the Badger player Davidson. Otherwise, feel free to trip him when you pass him on the sidewalk. Be careful, if you bump him he’ll probably go flailing into the street in the middle of traffic expecting a foul to be called!”
Not being a sports fan, she had to look him up and replied she would stick to the tripping.
It’s been a fun day all around.

Just in from the game...
1. Kudos to Goose and guru. They were spot on. Marquette hitting shots all over the place and UW's backcourt is terrible.
2. UW did a nice video tribute to the rivalry before the game. Sure they showed all UW highlights, but don't tell me they don't think of MU as a rival.
3. Everyone contributed. When Markus and Rowsey got in foul trouble, Cain and Elliott really played solid. I loved Cain's drive and dish to Heldt in the second half.
4. Speaking of Heldt, great job defensively! Love the plan for how they doubled Happ. They did it from the weak side so the pass could not be made to the open man easily.
5. My brother thinks Gard won't be their coach in 18 months. Not only were they bad today, he doesn't think there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

Agreed. It’s not even a throat slash.

Congrats to Wojo and the teamfor kicking Bucky's ass on their home floor. Only one other opponent's ass gtting kicked would be as sweet, that being No Dick, but alas, they are too arrogant tp play MU.
-
Tower was right about the Kohl being worth 15 points. We were +8 on fouls, saw Rowsey and Howard rested because of it, if not for the refs tilting the floor we would've won by 30+.
-
Maybe I missed it, but I don't think either of the commentators mentioned that T.J. Schlundt was the son of a former Marquette player. That's usually the type of thing they say 4 or 5 times during a broadcast.
-
At the game today. Great time. Great win.
Sure, truce and King may have helped them and maybe made it a single digit game. But it surely wouldn't have been a loss or all that close I think.
Great game by Wojo with the coaching. Solid work team. But we gotta keep the ball rolling.
If we win out the Non-con, I think we are a tourney team. Going 10-8 or 9-9 in conference.
-
Terrell Schlundt sucked, so it really doesn't count. if it were Don Smolinski's kid...
-
Finally got home from the Charlotte watching event and a LONG nightcap. I'm really buzzed, but I'll give it a go anyway ...
1. So much fun. The game actually got a little boring for some at our event! I, of course, never stopped watching. Loved seeing the camera pan the faces of the F%cky players on the bench.
2. If they had Trice, we might have only beaten them by 16.
3. Markus got 3 floaters blocked today and he got into foul trouble, and he was still one of the 2 best players on the floor. Rowsey got a silly T and was also in foul trouble, but he made the very most of the minutes he played. Awesome performance by our two Smurfs!
4. Second-best game of Matt Heldt's career (to his big-time performance against St. John's last season). Didn't back down from Happ. Got some help, but battled one of America's best post players all night. Contributed on offense. Grabbed some boards. Showed great energy.
5. So nice to lead a game from start to finish - and to step on the opponents' throats when we have them down.
6. Loved the energy we got from the freshmen and Sacar.
7. Nice to see guru acknowledge how prepared Wojo had the boyz. Oh wait ...
-

BE is awfully good at the top. If Harry is a solid contributor we will be very competitive. Can't base much on today's domination of a completely lost UW team. Sweet win for sure but UW is a hot mess.
-

The new big guy will be a major improvement over current guy. Time will tell on how much of improvement.
-
Bucky tears taste so good
-
Favorite moment was Elliott getting into Rowsey’s face after the technical. Freshman taking ownership.
-
Eng92,
Sorry about that bolt on your family (like Schlundt's).
-
6. The defense was better today because Madison runs motion and not high pick and rolls.
7. Heldt did a really nice job (with help) on Happ. He got some points, but he never took over.
Heldt played strong defense all game, not just against Happ. He's learning how to defend without fouling — which sometimes means just standing there with your feet on the floor and your arms straight up when a smaller player is in the paint. Impressed with his positioning against Happ. And he found the open space for a couple easy dunks on drives by Rowsey and company. Smart.
Sacar was really good at timing the double-teams on Happ. When to leave your man, when to get back to him. Created a lot of chaos down low. Again, defending without fouling.
UW is no offensive juggernaut. But this game was the first time all season I was really encouraged by the team defensive play.
-
Best part was when Howard did the cut throat, this game was a turning point #WeAreMarquette
-
Thought Theo looked solid in his limited time on the floor, as well. Wasn't a human foul machine. Hopefully a good sign.

Yeah, that was sick. Surrounded by Badger fans in section 309, it was one of many times you could actually hear their hearts breaking piece by piece.

GE smacked rowsey in the back of the head and snapped at him. It was awesome to see the Fr step up.

Probably the most exciting individual play of the game. Loved it. That poor Reuvers kid didn't have a chance
-
As much as I hate to admit it the dunk by Iverson on Cain may have been more exciting. Although it was not worth 15 points so the Kohl Hole crowd went back to sleeping shortly after.

Just re-watched the game.
Davison kicked his feet out on the 3 he got fouled on by Elliott. He also took 4! steps after Howard had left his feet on the Howard charge for his 3rd foul. That could have been huge, only a 6 point lead at that point. The whole team played with a chip on their shoulder today. I have no idea why, hope it was for all of the vitriol that the Hausers got after Joey committed.
A couple of other things from the game. A We Are Marquette chant at 4:50, where UW piped in music ,during a live ball situation, to drown it out. UW didn't put final score/ stats on the jumbotron after the game, for what it's worth. And finally, we were treated to the weirdest timeout ever, where Bucky and the Orange Bowl mascot (not kidding) free danced for 2.5 minutes.
-
He is a terrible announcer whether it is basketball or baseball.
You're crazy. He doesn't get the playoff nod because he's terrible. Of all the announcers we've been forced to listen to you pick Anderson?

The step back 3 was just as bad. Didn't extend his arm at all. Davison cut off his drive so Markus backed off and gets a charge call. I like Davison but he's already learned the bucky flop.

He’s fine on basketball. He’s a horrendous baseball announcer. Not as bad as Len Kasper, though.

Agree on that one too. He is trailing Howard off of the baseline screens, by a wide margin, but is able to make up the ground and get set to take a charge?
-
Charge call on Markus was brutally bad - probably as poor a charge call as any of us will see in any game (MU or otherwise) this season.
I think Theo's block is my favorite play so far in the 2017-18 campaign. DEFINITELY my favorite defensive play.
-

Perfect example of a defender sliding under a player while he's up in the air. Saying it was a horrendous call is an understatement.
-
My thoughts after attending the game and riding high all afternoon and evening:
1. Markus, Andrew, and Sam combined for 63 points. Yep, they matched the entire Wisconsin team and would have beaten them if not for a phantom and-1 call with a minute to go.
2. Great game plan by the coaches and great execution by the players. I like that MU came out aggressive and was in control from start to finish.
3. Heldt, Anim, Cain, and John all had some nice moments. Elliott was quiet but effective on D. Cain was close to a bunch of steals and very active on D. What a block by Theo!
4. Cain made some freshman plays where his shot got blocked or he turned it over. Plays that he probably made in HS when he was taller and more athletic than everybody. He's got a bit of a learning curve but when he figures it out I want to see it.
5. I actually will be kinda sad if Wisconsin becomes DePaul 2.0; I loved whooping the Badgers today but there's no juice if the rivalry becomes one sided.
-
He is a terrible announcer whether it is basketball or baseball.
I like him for basketball. Love him for baseball.

You're crazy. He doesn't get the playoff nod because he's terrible. Of all the announcers we've been forced to listen to you pick Anderson?
I stick up for announcers. I agree, BA is poor at college hoops. He should know everything UW and MU living in this state.

I kept waiting too. Watched the whole game and never heard it.
I was wondering if that was Terrell Schlundt's kid while watching and the fact that they didn't mention led me to believe he wasn't.

Any one surprised by Gard’s game plan? I thought for sure he would take the air out of the ball.
Also, Wojo added a few Princeton Offensive style sets. I thought this was masterful versus relying just on the high screen offense. Gard had no answers.
-
I think they tried to slow it down, but they turned the ball over and missed too many shots.
I think Wojo did things on both offense and defense that it took Gard awhile to adjust to.

A few random thoughts.
1. Happ travels EVERY time he touches the ball. He has "happy feet" like a 7th grade bench warmer. Big 10 refs must let this go.
2. Gard didn't have a game plan at all.
3. Davison is not as good as today's box score
4. The schools need to get together and hire better refs for this game. It's an important game, cannot afford to have bush league refs. If the NCAA controls ref distribution, give this one an asterisk "don't send us a bunch of losers". Fortunately, the bad calls mostly were both ways.
5. Heldt needs to play like this against BEAST centers.
6. Anim's hustle is excellent. The late game full court loose ball where he got called for a foul - he actually touched the ball first which means it's not a foul.
7. Shooting was excellent.
8. Wisconsin really sucks this year. Vermont was a better team and better coached.
9. We need another rival, this series is ours for the next 4-5 years.

Regarding #5, very likely the home team is responsible. And all refs are at best inconsistent.

I like him for basketball. Love him for baseball.
I agree Sultan.

I think Wisconsin sports have been blessed with some great play by play guys both on the radio and on TV. Even Home Team is great in my opinion. There's a reason he's called homer, but he's also the Marquette play by play radio guy, not some neutral national broadcast play by play guy.

Big fan of Homer!!

BTW, just watched a replay. I thought the reffing was fine. A couple missed calls, but the only thing horrible was the charge on Markus. They were pretty consistent throughout the game.

Ageed. The other bad one was that call on Sacar when Davidson flopped.

Yeah, but Anim was moving. Davison oversold it no doubt.

Davison was moving as well. Just a bad call..

Northwestern?

Tower: All good points. I liked the aggressiveness on both sides of the floor. No hesitation on open shots, bodying up on Badgers in the paint, Wisconsin fans leaving in droves, MU fans chanting louder than Badger fans attempt to shout us down. If not for the foul disparity, which was unwarranted but not surprising, MU would have won by a bigger margin than Ohio State's last week. I think it was Sam Cooke who put it best: "A change is gonna come."
Go Warriors!

Gard at half: "Dear Eight Pound, Six Ounce, Newborn Baby Jesus, in your golden, fleece diapers, with your curled-up, fat, balled-up little fists pawin' at the air...please bring me some players that can play."
Wojo at half: "Boys, you made that Gard your bitch."

Why can’t we recruit a kid like Rousey?
Because we don’t have Wojo doing our recruiting. Who would you rather play for if you were a recruit?
