If MU loses to SC, regardless of the way they lose, can we please refrain from the 'woe is me, life sucks, fire Wojo' crap?
Seriously. A flawed team overcame enough of their weaknesses often enough through superior shooting to win 10 Big East games and make the tournament. A team that blew multiple double digit second half leads. A team without a true PF. A team that played most of the season with 9 scholarship players. A team that went through a huge line up shake up. A team that lived and died by the 3 pt shot. A bad defensive team. A team without a clear leader or a clear go-to player. A team with starting guards <6'. A team whose most talented player is its most erratic player. A team with a player in a terrible sophomore slump.
This team has thrilled, annoyed, astonished, angered, overperformed, underperformed all season long. But they beat two top 10 teams in a week. (don't start on where Creighton ended up or Mo Watson being out. They were ranked in the top 10 when MU beat them) How often has that happened? MU students and fans got a by-God court storming. And they returned to the dance.
I don't know if MU beats SC. I highly doubt that MU gets past Duke. I know that MU has defeated good teams, tournament teams, on the road. I know MU is highly capable of laying an egg. It doesn't matter. It has been a successful season. Regardless of the outcome Friday night, this team owes no one here any apologies. So please, when MU loses, and they will, try to not revert to the worst versions of yourselves. Leave that to the trolls and the haters.
Where's the LIKE button for me to hit?
We made the tournament for the first time in 4 years...With a freshman starting point guard, a transfer starting at point guard (from a low mid major), we had Luke in foul trouble every game and out of nowhere came Matt Heldt for a stretch. Wojo did a fantastic job this year....To be in the tourney after some of the ruts this year is amazing. There are some MU fans here arrogant enough about our program to think a 10 is unacceptable, that we should always be in the tourney, etc....but this is progress. Ceiling I saw was NIT and I would have been happy about it at the start of the year.
Our matchup is kinda crap but SC is really an overrated 7 seed. Only issue is location. Hopefully Wojo is rght and Duke fans hang out to cheer for him...

The season was a success. Anything beyond Friday exceeds expectations.
It has been a great season as a fan. Lots of ups and downs like any good story to add to the drama and emotions to share. The university and team should be proud. Venting is better than apathy, though, I might add, pro or con.
That said, what is with your paragraph formatting lately
Tower - It feels to me like most of MU nation is just glad to be here and that the season is a success regardless of our performance in the tournament. I don't like this match up. I'm afraid it will result in a turn over fest, MU will never get into their offense, the crowd will be supporting SC and it could result in a lopsided loss which is not the way you want your season to end. If MU is competitive and loses by 6-7 I will be satisfied. Remember this will be Wojo's first NCAA as a HC and this team relies on a lot of young players and no one other than Katin has every played in the NCAA. Let learn from this experience and expect to make it back next year.
Well said Tower it is/was a hell of a fun year . the only thing i would add is to stay off the kids. Between JJ's reaction at the announcement and this ShaggyDu reaction https://twitter.com/SpecSportsWI/status/841117782431404034 (https://twitter.com/SpecSportsWI/status/841117782431404034) this clearly means a LOT more to them than it does to us, i couldn't be happier for them, and it's really heartening that the players understand what it means to the institution.
i hope for JJ and D Wilson's sake they channel that emotion in the right direction.

It is progress as long as they get back next year. Win or lose its been a great ride..but..as long as they are there you may as well win a game or two..or 3..
It has been an entertaining and fun year.
And, it is not going to end Friday night with South Carolina. The basketball gods put Coach K and Coach Wojo in the same bracket for a reason.
Tune in on Sunday.

No. It is progress. Period.
Next year is next year. We can debate what the parameters of success should be before the year, and judge the team's performance against those parameters when the season concludes. But nothing next year's team does impacts the evaluation of this year's team.
Agree with everything you wrote, real tower (as opposed to the fake tower that has infiltrated our site). But alas, it probably is too much to ask.
I don't know why but I just have a feeling we're going to win on a buzzer beater by Sam. Which means we'll probably lose 58-45 in ugly fashion.
Just glad to be dancing. A win is gravy. Hopefully this tournament appearance is the springboard to a very bright future. Land Joey Hauser and a couple good guards, then we're in business.

I totally agree with the sentiment, and everyone involved deserves credit for getting into the tourney.
That said, I think Friday is a game MU can win. I expect them to win. So, if it's OK, I'm going to be bummed and disappointed if they lose.
We're all going to be bummed and disappointed if we lose. I am just saying to keep it in perspective and not blow a gasket.

Thanks for sharing that video of Duane - that was great to see just how much it means to him, as well as to JJJ and Luke. I commented yesterday that I was most happy that those 3 get to experience being a part of March Madness.
The season has run the spectrum for exhilarating highs to incredibly frustrating lows, but too often some people forget that these are just kids who work their ass of for the program and who care a lot about the team and Marquette. Some of the posters whose attacks on specific players cross the line really should be ashamed of themselves.
I've tried to stay optimistic and realistic throughout the course of the season, which was tough to do at times. I think we are going to win on Friday and if we don't it'll be a bummer. But I'll still be proud of this team and what they accomplished this year. And hopefully this is just the first of another long string of tourney appearances and success.
This has been a very fun season of MU basketball. Best offensive team in MU history. Number 1, 3-point shooting team in all of college basketball; which can offset so many other deficiencies in the game of basketball, including at times head-scratching coaching decisions.
I know it is probably too much to ask, yet let's hope Wojo plays his best players the most minutes Friday night. Nothing wrong with losing, when you play your best players the most minutes.
Tower - here's to ya - it needed to be said and you said it perfectly.

If I get tix in the MU section from MU, I'll go. I've put in my request.
The reason I want to go is to share a great experience with like-minded people. If I have to buy tickets from a scalper and sit in the nosebleed section nowhere near fellow MU fans, it's not worth the late-night drive back.
If the game were in any of the other 3 time slots, I probably would go regardless and take a chance on tickets. But driving back after midnight when I'm dead tired ... I'm only willing to do that if I know I'm going to have MU seats.
If I decide to stay home, I'll get together with some of my fellow Marquetters and we'll watch on a big-screen TV.

You can always buy nosebleed seats and eventually get to the MU section. I have done that numerous times. Lots of empty seats for that second game.

Perceived internet anonymity combined with impulsive behavior leads to a fair amount of knee jerk negativity.
Marquette has met my expectations of making NCAA's this year, as well as being a top tier league team.
Long term I expect MU to be an almost annual NCAA team, things happen once in a while. I also expect frequent top tier league finishes. I also expect once every several years to compete for league title. I would like to see 2nd weekend NCAA results mixed in every so many years. And once every long while I hope for more. I also expect MU to be competitive non-conference and with perceived rivals.
The results so far this year are ahead of schedule for me considering the circumstances.
I hope of course to win every game possible, but, I would like to believe I have excited, positive, but fair expectations.
But again this is the internet and I know some people, for perhaps reasons I do not understand can and will say bad things that they might not say in person, just because they think they can get away with it.
Marquette exceeded my expectations i expected them to make the nit and maybe a play in game in the NCAA. It's been a good year lets make it even better and get some wins here

Fixed. Kudos to Stan for landing Howard and Reinhardt. Kudos to Wojo for Hauser and Rowsey. Recruiting is as important as coaching. Yet when you have a prolific, Top 5 offense, built on the backs of out of this world shooters - is it not reasonable to expect an NCAA bid? A step further, would you expect a prolific, talented, Top 5 offensive team to lose 12 games and be a bubble team?
Been a fun and expectations met year for sure, yet not going to annoint Wojo as the next Coach K (just yet.) But, this is progress.
I hoped MU would make the tourney this year but I had my doubts, that said I'm extremely happy for this team, Wojo and our fan base. Now let's make it even better by beating SC and then playing Duke. I'd love to see coach K vs Wojo.

First off, we're 7th offensively. Not top 5.
Also, Oklahoma State (20-12, 10 seed) is number 1 offensively. Wake Forest (19-13, play in game) is 8th. So frankly, bubble teams that are strong offensive teams weak defensively clearly aren't uncommon.
I would love to make the S16 and upset Duke and all of the great storylines that go with it. Realistically, we have a great opportunity to win a tough road game against a rugged team in the other USC. That is a successful tourney trip.
I hope they then hold their own for awhile against a superior Duke team and head into this offseason will all of the confidence that the best is still to come.
There is ZERO chance that I will be frustrated, annoyed, pissed or any other negative emotion if MU loses on Friday night or Sunday. I got 99% of my frustration out about three weeks ago and all is good here. Hope they do well and surprise some folks. If not, life goes on.
Great post Tower.
This season has been successful regardless of what happens on Friday. The talent level is high, Wojo's coaching is steadily improving, and the team has been exciting to watch. Like a couple of others here, I think MU will win Friday and will be bummed if we don't...but there is no way a loss would ruin my appreciation of the season, and the overall positive direction of the program.
GO MARQUETTE!
I was hoping the thread would be:
"...can Marquette celebrate the 100th year of hoops and 40th anniversary of our national championship with another championship. Please!"
But, I agree with all the sane points here. If you can't cheer the Warriors when they struggle and when they're down, take your negativity somewhere else. I'll remain here celebrating our successes - no matter how small they seem in the great history which continues to be written, and our players - no matter what percentage they're shooting.

Here is what happens after the Duke vs. Troy game as their fans head out of their seats. Pay $5 for their ticket stub to sit down low before they leave. In Louisville, I had Kentucky fans offer me $20 after the Murray St game to move down. Crazy

We, along with OK State and Wake are definitely the outliers in the Top 10 offensive teams with regard to our seed/win-loss record. Here are the other 7:
Nova 1 seed
UCLA 3 seed
UNC 1 seed
Michigan 7 seed
Duke 2 seed
Kansas 1 seed
Gonzaga 1 seed
So, all 4, Number 1 seeds rank in Top 10 Offense. And then a 2 and 3 seed as well. The good news, of course is that our offense is elite, and right up there with the blue bloods of college basketball and this NCAA tourney. That's progress.

Not necessarily related but I found something interesting. 25/25 of the top 25 offenses per KenPom made the tournament. But 7/25 of the top 25 defenses were left at home. So defense might win championships, but apparently offense gets you the bid.

As opposed to a guy who has been banned multiple times from this site, comes back under new user-names, repeats the same arguments that lead people to figure out who he is, which he initially denies to great hilarity, only to grudgingly accept that he's been unveiled once again?
To back up a little bit, the only reason you were figured out is because you *started* making the same arguments that you are now saying others are obsessing about. For example:

I think you have to win games by putting the ball in the basket a lot these days. Tony Bennett's teams never seem to get as far as they should because eventually they run into a team that can score.
Possibly related to the rule changes. Perhaps this is a result of the ending of clutching and grabbing and hand checking.

You really have no sense of irony, do you?
Irony? The difference between myself and you usual suspects who can't get over past disagreements with me - lined up nicely here - JesMU84, Boombatz, MuEng03, and of course TSmith34, and MomofMultiples - is, that just because you all share a different opinion than mine, I don't whine, and complain, and ask the Mods to ban you. Nor do I get involved with political stuff here, any of the race stuff, etc. Just because I'm convicted in my convictions, and don't waver in spite of your herd mentality, shouldn't be reason to want someone banned.
My criticism always starts with the coach - it did Buzz's last year - and has been directed toward Wojo. It is fair game to question their playing time decisions. Sadly, Derrick got caught in the cross hairs of that, and got torn to pieces.
Ironically, JesMU84 has NO problem whatsoever straight ripping JJJ, as do some of you others here.
Lastly, when I have created a new account here, and get called out on it - I've owned it and not walked away from the accusation. This was the first time I played Chicos/dumb in response to JesMu84 - guess I did that because, I don't want to be banned, as has been the case each of the last 3 times I've joined here.
I know it is probably too much to ask of you 7 or so, but please, for the love of God, move on and get over past disagreements.

Gives me more hope for Fri night.
I got my ice cubes, pitcher and double packets of Blue Kool-Aid ready for Friday !!!

I agree with this analysis .

You mean Derrick, who has an elite 8 ring? :P
Mother Theresa, nothin' 'gainst Thomas, but is dis da Riley Crean Elite 8 ring? Ders just somethin' intrinsically wrong wit awardin' rings for an Elite 8 appearance, ai na?
I'm thrilled to be back in the dance and any wins are gravy. I think we've turned a corner and I'm feeling optimistic about the tourney and the direction of MUBB heading into next year.
If we lay an egg, however, I'll gripe. Getting humiliated in our first trip back doesn't undo the progress to now but would be discouraging. No reason with this team we can't hang (even if we lose). Just too much firepower to not score. That's why I've been most frustrated with this team with our losses than have been driven by extended scorless stretches. Maddening when we can't find a bucket with this team.
These are not inconsistent positions. This is an anonymous internet message board. If you don't like what people are saying, don't read it!

Leave that to the trolls and the haters.
i didn't get thru but about 2 posts, but put me down for-GOOD PROACTIVE POST and LIKE button for me too-GO WARRIORS and regardless of the outcome, i am really looking forward to next year-progress not perfection

Perhaps you seven should announce you're leaving MUScoop to create your own board.
Maybe even find a few posters from an A10 board to join you.

Interesting additional context. Also appreciate that you are mature enough to move on from past disagreements and actually focus on the content of posts versus the individual who makes the post/points.
Really sad a handful of guys here who are all considerably older than you, still obsess and can't move on from past disagreements/dissenting opinion as it relates to MU basketball.
Thanks I guess? I don't think I was really agreeing with you. If anything, I was disagreeing and saying that it was good that Wojo focused on offense because it seems to be more directly related postseason success. But really I just was pointing out a funny factoid about this year's tournament.

IM each other, text each other, maybe use a different color font when you want to whine at each other over some internet beef. That would make life easier for the other 99% of us on here.

How could a 10 seed possibly not be acceptable? Not only is it acceptable, a pretty compelling argument can be made that it should be us playing USC tomorrow night and Providence playing the other USC on Friday. Being one of 2 teams that beat Nova has it's advantages clearly. Win or lose on Friday, it's been a successful season and this team exceeded expectations! Calling for Wojo's head is ridiculous. two seasons ago we won what 4 games in conf? We are in good hands moving forward. All that said, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect this program to make the NCAA most of the time. Every single year? Of course not, but there's no reason why MU shouldn't be an NCAA Tournament Stalwart. Missing it once in a while should be the exception, not the rule, and Porky believes that's not arrogant at all and something we should all agree on.
