What do they have to go?
Win the BET.
They have to somehow hope that the other 67 teams decline invites.
Its not going to happen. Too many glaring flaws with this team. this season is what it is, and I dont think making the tournament is a remotely realistic option. Did you watch the last 5 games?
Win! 4 more games specifically. It's gonna' be tough. But if they can come back energized after a week off, it's still possible.
We aren't
Win 3 or 4 more in conference. Win one in NYC. Bubble is still soft.
Is that the only way? Or could they go 3-2 in their last 5 and make it. And a win in the Big east tourney?
Win 4 and hope for the best

If they didnt come back energized after losing home games (providence and Butler) what gives you hope that its going to happen vs Xavier?

Yes, but I also watched the first 8 of the BE. Not quite sure which team we are right now.
Go 4-1 in the last 5. Or go 3-2 and win 2 in NYC. Both are very tall orders. Let's hope the week off helps.

Extra time off. That's it. All the hope I've got.
4-1. Win the three at home, beat Providence. Nothing changed today except there number of opportunities.
Nothing changed after this loss.. Still need to win 4.
But it starts with 1. We have one week to regroup/prepare for Xavier at home, on National Marquette Day. Biggest game of the season. Chance to turn it around, before we head to Providence/St Johns...
If we can't win beat X at home, the path to 4 is less likely than winning the BE Tournament.

Win the BET.
And that is the only way. Another year under wojo, and another no dance.

I think we are currently the team from the last 5.
I gave up it doesn't look like we can make the tourney :/

Hah. Obviously true. I guess I should have said the team we will be.
How things have changed.
16 days ago, "if the season ended today" MU was solidly in the NCAAs.
Today, MU is completely out, and needs to play far better than their trend to have a chance.

Probably not completely out. The bubble is still terrible. Us being bad didn't make the bubble teams good (even by comparison).
Sounds like Duane is going to be starting next Saturday.
Hopefully he can provide a spark.
Curious who he'll replace in the starting lineup.
4 wins= NCAA tournament
3 wins= Tournament Bubble/NIT lock
2 wins= NIT Bubble
*Totals include BET

On the basis of "if the season ended today" it's hard to believe the bubble can't find 48 other teams for bids. Imploding teams with RPIs of 73 do not make the tournament.
On the basis of the probability of winning 4 of the next 5? Let's be serious for a second .. MU would have to reverse course in a dramatic way for that to happen. Far more possible that Xavier kills us twice, Prov beats us on the road, we finish our last 10 by going 3-7 or worse.
But yeah, there's a chance!
I don't think we will win more than 2 the rest of the regular season, so MU needs to get the the BET title game to have a chance.
Otherwise, we join DePaul in the distinction of being the only two Big East schools to not make the NCAA tournament at least once in the last 4 years.

Bubble is still soft.
The real question is who is softer - MU or the bubble

All I can say is start making a list. When you get down to those last 4-8 teams, you'll realize just how bad the bubble is.

You're too young to lose hope. Leave that to all of us old, miserable fans on the board. Youthful optimism...MU hosts an NIT game and Wojo takes the UMBC job in 2018!
The Big East is a 5 bid conference. That won't change unless us, Seton Hall, and Georgetown crap the bed down the stretch.
So with that being said - we just need to finish 5th in the standings. Seton Hall lost to St Johns today, which is extremely helpful and should help us maintain a small edge over them/Georgetown for the next week..
Since our conference changed to 10-teams/Round-robin scheduling, the NCAA bids have mirrored our standings.
2016 (5 bids): Nova (16-2), Xavier (14-4), Seton (12-6), Providence (10-8), Butler (10-8)
2015 (6 bids): Nova (16-2), Butler (12-6), Georgetown (12-6), Providence (11-7), St Johns (10-8), Xavier (9-9)
2014 (4 bids): Nova (16-2), Creighton (14-4), Providence (10-8), Xavier (10-8)**
** In 2014, St Johns was also 10-8, but lost tiebreaker to Xavier in the conf standings. STJ was snubbed from the tournament. The Big East ended up getting only 4 bids that year, while the A-10 got 6. Strange year. The conference has gotten more respect over the last 2 tournaments, and should continue to this year.
Still hopeful, but check back with me after the Xavier game next Saturday. A loss at home against X will be the dagger.

How about Cheatham. While the kid still has great potential, he has played poorly for quite a while. He needs a wake up call.
Amen, the dagger comes in one week. No way is this squad going to beat Xavier.
(Freedom to all to quote this endlessly in the event of a miracle).
Not by playing this way.
It don't matter. This team ain't gonna do stink in it, ai na?
Go 3-2. Win a game in BET to be safer.
Guys, literally everyone on the bubble who has played today lost. A few fringe teams like Gtown and Providence won. The opportunity is still there, but right now, this team has no confidence and I'm not sure they get to 9 wins.

Completely out? MU had looked terrible for a couple weeks now, but who exactly moved in front of us? Go look at the bubble teams and the teams that are on the pherphery of the bubble. They all suck. They all lost today. This field has to be filled. But MU isn't getting in at 6-12, so better start winning.
Just trying to expand my imagination on how to revamp a mentally distraught and unfocused team in a week.
- Watch basketball comeback/inspirational propaganda (ie Hoosiers, Glory Road, heck even Air Bud?)
- Lake Michigan baptisms
- DWade wilderness retreat
Also there's a difference between giving up on the season and the season "actually being over".
Just win. Find a way 4 times. Very difficult but still possible.
