My lord has that program derailed into a lake of acid. What the hell is going on? no reason they should be this bad.
Sad Scott says yes.

They need change, but will it come?
Calling them DePaul is hyperbolic, but there are similarities to the situation now at GT and early 90s DePaul. Firing the son of your greatest coach, who's had past success, but is currently struggling is a tough decision. A lot of politics.
In his first 12 full seasons at Georgetown, John Thompson III has gone 264-133 (.665). That's an average of 22 wins a year. He's been to the NCAA tournament 8 times in that span — most recently two seasons ago.
In that same period of time, DePaul has gone 143-233 (.380) under the direction of 4 different head coaches. That's an average of 12 wins a year. Zero NCAA bids.
Georgetown may be struggling right now. But there is simply no comparison between the Hoyas and the Blue Demons.
Since last January 30th, Georgetown has gone 3-16 in BE play. Their wins are Depaul and St. Johns twice.
They have not made the tournament in the last four years.
Even though he is the son of a Hall of Fame coach, the win production and the quality of those wins, has put him on the very hottest in DC.
Georgetown is probably the most prominent BE team and the BE really needs them to get back to their winning ways. Academic entry issues and the DC/Va/Md recruits are going to Maryland, Virginia, Va Tech and outside the region. It should be an interesting process in the off season if the losses continue.

Umm they made the NCAA tournament in 13, NIT in 14 and NCAA in 15... I don't know what four years you're talking about but google is your friend.
Also, while they probably were the most prominent team before now that Nova has won two titles I'd say that GTown has been replaced.
Georgetown wants to come back...
DePaul seemingly doesn't!

Now that may be true as long as JLP is still there.
I think people forget that Joey Meyer had many great years in a row, just like JT3 did. Then the wheels came off the DePaul wagon never to come back on. Obviously that was more a function of the DePaul administration etc . I don't think Georgetown is going to melt down in that fashion .
Georgetown can still can get top recruits to consider their program. They can still beat quality teams. They still have a highly desirable school , campus and tons of tradition.
I am sure JT3 will be on a very tight leash after this year though.
From our standpoint, I am delighted to see us grind them into the ground while they are down. No mercy as they would certainly give us none.

Thanks, confused with another team we know. My bad.
But, since last year, they have been very, very poor.
Georgetown will have to suck for at least a decade before we can start calling it the new DePaul.

Wrong
Sounds like Joey Meyer.
If Gtown rs to be the new DePaul, then they need to fire JTIII...
...And then hire him back after a decade

Bill Bradshaw = Larry Williams ?
No
They aren't yet, but they still could be. However it would probably take two bad hires after JTIII. My suspicion is they'll get a pretty solid candidate list once they part ways with him. Though they'll probably give him another year.

At this point not sure how they can't try someone else.
Well, they just named a building on campus after Daddy, and he has his PG of the future coming next year, which is said to be the deficiency this year. I think he'll get one more year to right the ship. It's two down years, and three of four, but if you look at it differently, he's also just two years removed from a streak of 8 bids in 10 years and 6 of those bids being top-4 seeds.
Considering how tied Georgetown is to his last name, I think he gets the benefit of the doubt one more time. I also think that's a mistake, just my expectation.
Georgetown is losing with much more talent than DePaul has.

This is the problem with hiring legacies to coach. When things go south, it tends to get very messy. Much easier to can an outsider, especially when dismissing the coach is not a completely black and white decision.
The truth is that JT III has underachieved since losing Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert 10 years ago. JTIII didn't even recruit those guys, he inherited them from Craig Esherick. Yes, he's had a number of high seeds, but some huge upsets and GT hasn't been to the second weekend of the tourney since their Final Four run in 2007. And, they always have a roster filled with highly regarded talent, especially big men.
I just checked the alternative facts on roypom and they're still definitely on track for a 4 seed

I thought that's how you became the new Mrs. Heffner.
The comparison is a bit ridiculous. GT is a LONG way from being DePaul. They were 7-11 in the BE last year which is not awful and the year before that they made the second round of the tournament. This year they are struggling but their losses aren't exactly horrible and they have several close losses to good teams plus a win over Oregon. They still have a number of advantages and always a good pipeline of talent. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they beat us in DC. Also, they did beat UConn, which has fallen a lot further a lot faster.
Was MU the new Depaul when they went 4-14 just 2 years ago? Bad year for GT but they'll be back.
I think any GT to DePaul comparison would be looking at where DePaul was in the 1990s. It's not impossible, but Georgetown is still a long way from getting to DePaul levels of consistently bad.

If you ever though we over-exaggerate as fans, just remember Georgetown is 100x worse. Ive never seen a more bipolar fan base and thats saying something considering Im on scoop.
Answer is no. ;)
No. DePaul has been bad for a generation. Georgetown has had a couple of seasons go sideways. If G-town stays bad for a decade, revisit the question.
